Neat little game! I included it in my LowRezJam compilation, if you’d like to take a look :)

I'm sorry this is so critical, but there are a few flaws that I really have to address:

  • Don't use installers. Please export your game as a zip file or executable as it makes it much less of a hassle to play.
  • Don't bind sounds directly to key presses. A sound plays whenever you press the shoot button even though there appears to be a delay between shots. This is both confusing and annoying.
  • If the menu options are vertical you should use the up/down keys instead of left/right keys. This was especially confusing since the up and down keys still make noises when they do nothing.
  • If you're going to use such pixellated fonts, turn off high quality and anti-aliasing. This will make the text look less blurry.
  • Try not to use jarring pop-up messages. This is a bit more understandable as it offers an easy way to do text entry, but there are better ways. I suggest looking up "keyboard_string".

Now, onto the actual game. The gameplay seems to work well enough. I like dodging and shooting. The spreadshot powerups are really cool, but I would've liked to see more of them. I only got them on one of my several attempts. The gameboy green colour scheme is also cool though you should keep it more consistent (the grey background and black score text look a bit out of place). The plane sprites look pretty nice.
