Simple and fun take on tamagotchi virtual pets. It's really accurate. Keibo did a really good job of capturing the feel of the original. The art is great and it's impressive that this was all done with gamemaker! Really nice job!

Developer

Thank you very much for your kind words! I'm glad you liked it :)

I like the idea of virtual pets. Although I can tell it doesn't have the full 64x64 look. Pixels move too smoothly. Healthbar looks out of place notably. It's gamemaker so resize the application layer to 64x64.

Developer (1 edit)

Thanks for the feedback. I did set the entire games rooms and cameras to 64x64 pixels with only the size of the viewport being set to 704x704 so it wasn't a tiny square on the screen. It seems as though that was not enough as Gamemaker seems to do some hokey pokey business. That's my bad (doh!).

I checked the resizing of the application surface and I can now see the end effect makes more sense, honestly I don't know how I didn't realize during development, woops... I will release an update with just this patch after the voting ends with the fix for this.

Wow I really liked this. I was a bit confused at the start because I kept dying to a couple slimes, but once I had a good health + slime loop going, I was able to tank up quite a bit.

I ran into a few issues where sometimes the health I’d spawn wouldn’t get picked up by my knight, but outside of that this was a really cool idea! I’d definitely play a full version of this. Nice job!

Developer

Thanks for playing my game! I saw the issue you mentioned where the knight wouldn't interact correctly but it wasn't easy to replicate and I was running out of time unfortunately... post jam updates for sure :D

This game concept is really cool and unique!

At least I hadn't encounted something similar before. The art was also nice and funny. My only real feedback is to increase the contrast against the background a bit for us with bad eyesight.

If you keep improving it, I would be very interested in seeing a full game, even with the mechanics as are - albeit maybe with a bit more balancing.

In terms of balancing, I must admit that it was too hard for me despite repetitive attempts: it seems that I was always on the negative resources to stay alive and thus couldn't go past the 5th slime. But maybe I wasn't understanding what I was supposed to do correctly - a short youtube video in the game page would probably help a lot.

Developer

Thanks for playing my game and the feedback. I hadn't thought about the contrast but looking at it now, I should've corrected that!

Also yes, unfortunately I was unable to balance it all before submitting as I've realized that the cost and time some of the activities take is a bit unfair, making it quite tricky to keep up with the difficulty.

Making GIFs or videos of the gameplay would definitely help other users.

Thanks again for the feedback :)

Very cool! I got to level 10 or 11 and killed 34 slimes. I couldn't tell if speed increased your attack speed or movement, and sometimes a slime would spawn but the knight and the slime wouldn't do anything. It's very addicting. I would love to see this as a full game.

Developer

Thanks for playing my game. Yeah there are some bugs I was unable to squash before the deadline.

I was considering fleshing this out after the jam so your reply is indeed encouraging :)
