What did you learn?
This was my first time using GameMaker. It was an interesting experience, but I doubt I'll ever try using it for a big project because of its simplicity.

It's so sad that the only puzzle was full of symmetries :/

I had the benefit of having the Itch launcher open on my other screen so I was able to finish it in about 10 minutes. Very cool little game!

Developer

Thanks for playing and for the kind words!

Clever way to show the numbers. I managed to complete the puzzle.

Maybe a way to mark cells you are certain are empty would help at harder levels. And a key to open colour-number help would be nice, as you said.

Thanks for playing! The empty cell marker is actually available in the game (though unfortunately undocumented). Using the middle mouse button will put a slash through any cell you believe to be empty.

This looks like a good game, and I love nonograms, but I'm afraid it was a little too hard to keep track of the colors and their values. Maybe put a screenshot of the help menu on the game's page would be helpful?

Also, I didn't really get what the checkerboard colors were.

Developer

Thanks for trying out the game! I've added a screenshot of the (intended) help menu to the game page which hopefully makes it more clear that the checkerboard colours are supposed to represent numbers 9 - 16.

Using colour was a really clever way of overcoming the resolution limitation! Unfortunately it comes with its own challenge: I had to pull up a second window of the game to refer to the colours on the help sheet constantly. Still, nice job on implementing a tiny nonogram. With some determination I did manage to make one (1) smiley boy.

Developer

Thanks! One QoL feature I definitely should have added was a key to bring up the colour-number key. Perhaps in a future update.

I was working up to the deadline and the help menu didn't get finished. Sorry about that. ESC will get you out, but unfortunately also quit the game.
