Did you work in a team?
Not a team! Just me! It was fun.

Was the resolution a challenge?
Honestly the resolution didn't impose challenge?? It made the whole process easier. The whole concept of the game was designed around being small/simple and the limitations on the art made it easier to produce for me.

What did you learn?
I learned a lot. This is maybe the first time I scoped a game correctly. This was my first time working in super-low-resolution and I really enjoyed it. Trying to adapt a complex sport to a dead-simple game was a really fun design challenge.

What the heck? We get 4096 pixels and this dev just says, "Nah, I only need 2304" :P
Seriously though, fun game where I could really feel myself improving, just a little tricky to learn at first.

Developer

:) thanks again for playing

Really cool for something done in a few days, AI feels balanced, hitting the ball feels varied, nice!

Developer(+1)

It kind of just came together!  I wish all my projects were like that lol.  thanks for playing :)

The winning sound could use a noise pass to soften the distortion and clipping. But other than that, there's not much to say. It's a nice little volleyball game!

Great job!

Developer(+1)

It was certainly hastily put together, I'll adjust it for the next version for sure.  thanks for the feedback & thanks for playing :)

Great job in converting the complexity of volleyball into simple mechanics. Not too many volleyball games out there.

Developer(+1)

Thank you!  Yeah I actually posted it on the volleyball subreddit and got lots of good feedback haha.   Many seemed just appreciative that somebody was trying to make a volleyball game at all.

It is so simple, but it makes so much fun :) To do a spike is so cool!

Thanks for playing!

Really fun little volleyball game.  Reminds me of the old sports games for the atari 2600 but controls way better. The most use of as little pixels as possible.  I'd totally play more tiny sport games if you made more.  Great game!

Developer

Thank you very much, that's basically exactly what I was going for!

ayy pretty good game but I had a problem with my controls like the guy will always comeback to the same position really quick making me feel like I am not in control and miss lots of ball

Developer (1 edit)

This is an intentional design choice but thank you for your feedback! I wanted it to feel more timing/skill based to recieve/bump a ball, not just being in the right position.  It also makes the controls even simpler-- if you don't touch anything it resets itself.  I see it as more of a game-and-watch or even an old-school mechanical toy style system of control.  This style also feels more natural on controller (this is what I designed around) and is less ideal on keyboard, definitely. Anyway thanks again for playing!

Very nice and smooth game! What engine did you use?

Developer(+1)

Thank you!  I make pretty much all my games in Godot :)

Submitted(+1)

That's nice! I used the same for my game :D

Perfection, No Suggestion

Developer

LOL thank you!

This is great! Also I love how surprisingly expressive the low rez sprites are. Bump, set, spike are so iconic and recognizable, you nailed the art! Like everyone else mentioned already, I really like the simplified mechanics of just positioning and setting up a spike. Great work!

I had a LOT of fun with this game! Flawless gameplay. Impressive how you managed to capture the essence of volleyball using the absolute minimum of elements and mechanics. I could play this for hours, congratz :)

Thank you so much!  I did so much tweaking on all the physics etc, glad it paid off :)

I’m going to echo most comments here and just say that you did a very good job at keeping things simple, and the best games often are! Well done 😀

Developer

thank you!  it was fun trying to keep things as simple as possible

Love the tiny players; super cute! I saw you're planning on doing a 2p mode, and that would be sweet! <3

Developer(+1)

Yup! Thanks for playing :)

Fun game, you absolutely nailed the game-feel of building up to, aiming, and then spiking the ball.

Developer

Thanks!!

Really cool game! kinda hard at first but pretty fun to play!

Developer(+1)

It's a little tricky! glad you enjoyed it

Submitted(+1)

This is really cool, I am very impressed with the physics of the ball and how tightly the bump/set/spike ties together. The spikes are very tricky to gauge, and the CPU is dastardly good. Would definitely enjoy a 2 player version of this.

Developer

Thank you! I'm definitely going to put out a 2P version, after a few days of rest :)

Great job! Actually pretty creative way to represent the game of volleyball.

Developer

thank you!
