Did you work in a team?
One (plus tester).
I: Graphics, main idea and code.
My brother: Testing and throw some ideas.

Was the resolution a challenge?
Resize some videos or images and made them still "readable" was a bit dificult. Also the collisions on Construct 2 at low resolutions have some bugs.

What did you learn?
I tried to use the low resolution to hide really simple art, and made it significative with audio and compressed videos.
First time embedding .mp4 files on my games. Also I use a lot of public domain sfx.
And this was my first spooky game, that was fun to try.

The atmosphere was great in this game, really immersive and had a certain feel of tension. I did find the font a bit hard to read at times and that probably lead to some confusion at times about what I'm supposed to do, but got through it in the end. Good work on the game!

That was awesome! I got to a point in which the police were at the house, and couldn't go further: is that the end?

I loved the sound and I love that you didn't use cheap jumpscares to set the atmosphere. It genuinely creeped me out!

Developer(+1)

Thank for playing and comment! I tried to not use jumpscares (the beating with flash images was the more similar), on the police scene  the  TV will turns on eventually, then you power off, and find something that fades to the next scene.  There's two scenes after the police.

if there's a bathroom but not a flushable toilet. It's really a game?  I don't think so.

Thanks for playing and for your words :)

This is really well done. i was on edge expecting something to just outright jump at me at any moment trough the game. the sound effect really on point on this one.

Developer

Thanks!! I really have to sit and write down all the credits for the original public domain SFX and videos that I used.  It was hours and hours of searching, cutting and editing.

Really enjoyed the story and message of this game. Very interesting how the environment stays the same but is different with each of the time zones. I thought the atmosphere was really effective and liked what you had done with the effects etc. Well done!

Developer (1 edit)

Thanks for your words! I think that using the same map, was useful to work less on level design and achieve some kind of narrative. Initially was only a quick decision to save time. And all the saved time was invested in search those spooky SFX hahaha.

Interesting game. The nice audio and atmosphere makes it chill to just walk around. I really like the 2D dynamic shadows. Also... You can flush a TOILET! That's some next level s#@% right there. Good job!

Developer(+1)

As I always say: If you game have a bathroom and you cannot flush the toilet, it is really a game?  :P

Thanks for playing, and remeber wash your hands after use the toilet!

The game has a very interesting atmosphere.  Using compressed videos and images instead of jumpscares was a good choice.  The low resolution made the images even scarier.  Though the collision is a bit weird as sometimes the character would stop and I would have to move around to get unstuck.  Also what is the story of this game?  I think its about the passing of time somehow and a robbery I don't know.  And how did you do 3d perspective in construct?

Developer

Hi, trying to get that eerie atmosphere, maybe I ignored a bit the gameplay. Also collisions on low resolution doesn't work flawless on construct, at least with default behaviors.
The story is more or less about a person dissapearing, but I left all the narrative a bit loose so anyone can interpret it like they wanted.  Some final videos are just still shots of my house ceils and walls.

The faked 3d perspective its a shadow projection behavior with the light source pinned to the player, watch for salman shurie , david masia  or stuffed wombat on twitter, they have used it a few times.

Developer

Something like that.
Player its a sprite object, the lightbulb  its an object type called ShadowLight pinned to player, and the walls are tiledBackgrounds with the behavior ShadowCaster.

The main drawback it's that you only can use solid colors for the walls.

Wow, that is impressive.  I use Gamemaker, but I'll see if this works for that engine to.

Very cool audio/visual effects, I played this one straight to the end because of the engrossing atmosphere.

Developer

Thanks a lot for playing! I'm really happy to achieve that atmosphere on the game, it was my goal, maybe mechanics and "story" elements aren't so good but hey I learned a lot of new tricks! :D

Submitted

Great entry! The audio works really well with the gameplay and the graphical style is really effective. Love the atmosphere overall and it is just a really polished game. Well done! :D

Developer(+1)

Thanks for your words! Generate this atmosphere and add some narrative elements was my first intention. It's great to know that it works.

The musak while loading was funny. :)  The line of sight view really works well for this type of game.

Developer

Thanks for playing! It was my first time using this type of view. I'm happy that it works!

I'm still not entirely sure what happended... I had trouble controlling the ball and at some point it just disappeared... I could not finish it, unfortunately.

Developer

Thanks for trying! haha. I fix some bugs with the ball's movement now. (And now it can be grabbed and moved, so it no longer breaks the narrative.)
PS: I love your game!!

Cool game -- I've always loved the dynamic vision style (Monaco, Teleglitch, etc). It makes for a good horror game. The change in mood this game goes through is really cool. I think I broke the game, as my ball ended up outside of the map at one point, and I wasn't sure if it was supposed to do that or not. I don't think I beat it, but some of the scares definitely made me jump.

the perspective worked really well for this game. also good use of the videos, although i'm not sure if i have just been abducted by a toaster :D

Developer

Hahahaha, the last video it's intentional vague (it's a random record from a ceiling of my house hahaha) .
Your theory was the best so far!

Submitted(+1)

Very interesting atmosphere.

Developer

Thanks! It was the first intention, because of that maybe the gameplay it's a little buggy hahaha.

Submitted(+1)

Controls for the ball were frustrating at first.. but once I got the hang of it it wasn’t bad at all. The experience was very interesting tho :D

Developer

Thanks for playing! I totally hate the ball control while testing hahaha, I try my best to improve it, but maybe it needed to be re-made from scratch although it was late so  I leave it.

it's a little bit confusing but REALLY good

managed to make me scared with 64x64

also the audio is just 11/10

Developer

Thanks a lot for playing! This was my first game with a 50/50 percents of work between image and sound. I usually focus on the pixel art.

And yeah, it's a little confussing and buggy in some places.

it's so cool!! i like it! I liked the devil, it looks like a meme !!

Developer(+1)

Thanks amigo!! The real story is that the devil was a placeholder for every image, but running out of time I decide to leave it in some places.
