Did you work in a team?
I'm just one guy who designed, coded and drew everything. I used a sound asset pack and free music. I had tons of fun doing it!

Was the resolution a challenge?
The nature of a retro racing game like this means i'd normally need to rely on a lot of sprite scaling, but at such a low resolution the results got ugly fast. I ended up scaling the sprites manually, drawing each resized frame by hand to make sure the important details remained. I was surprised at how playable a game like this is at this resolution. I definitely enjoyed the jam and will do it again next year!

What did you learn?
This is the 2nd jam i've ever joined and i'm gaining tons of experience completing projects. I"ve always wanted to make a pseudo 3D racing game like this and it was the perfect opportunity. Way more math then i'm used to lol, i'm definitely more of an artist then programmer but i think everything came out really well.

Very nice and polished. Gameloft level quality from the old mobile days. Smooth gameplay and no corners cut with auto scaling. Loved it.

Very nice throwback to go old Outrun, including the switching music feature. Stupid beautiful graphics and sound. I only wished the speed would increase a little faster after hitting obstacle.

I abosolutely loved this!  Really reminds me of Rad Racer which I used to spend hours playing on the NES.

Controls are tight and the high speed racing feels really good.  I also loved how you can change radio stations, each of the soundtracks are superb and adds to the replay value.  I also really liked the 8-bit SFX, especially the crowd cheering sound at the start of the race.

Really good stuff!  I will be playing this one again :)

i've made it to the last level in the middle difficult (orange city, 50342 points).

I hope you don't mind that instead of listening to the original soundtrack, I put eurobeat in the background, sorry, I couldn't help it, even if it's more outrun than initialD, one of the best jam games I've ever tried

It's like an Outrun 64x64 demake :-) - I love it :-) - it keeps most of that kind of games even with such a low res. Congratulations

Excellent game design, graphics and sound selection. Btw, could you give information about the tracks from the game? They are great.

Developer

Absolutely, they're fantastic!

I really like this game! I played for far longer than I was expecting to! The tips after each match made me want to keep playing!

Nice to see another old style racer, good presentation, radio select is good feature. Like how you handed the scaling within the pixel limitations.

Nice outrun feel

This has a really nice feel to it - very reminiscent of Outrun.  A huge amount of polish too.  It's a really slick experience - even running via Wine on Linux.

It's got a lovely difficulty curve as well.  I could get into it and start have fun but I could feel the challenge ramping up!  I especially liked the post-fail hint to take the left-hand turns. :)

Great work!

Congrats !

Really nice graphics! The game feels fair and it's really fun! I really don't have anything bad to say about the game! Great job!

Getting all the Out run vibes out of this one! A couple of details would elevate the game a bit… some car skidding in extreme turns with wheels screeching will add a more physics sense to the game as now the car shows absolutely perfect traction which feels unrealistic. Also If you added also the car tumble from Out Run rather than a “bump” with other vehicles or scenery this would be perfect!. Nice touch with sound!

Super impressive! Were you inspired by Rad Racer at all? That's one of my favorite games! :D

Developer

Thanks, I pulled inspiration from Rad Racer, Outrun and Top Gear

I am super impressed with the graphics, you can really see the effort that went into creating all the sprites for the vehicles at the different distances. It makes the game really readable. Really, the whole thing was a nice fun arcade type game that I plan on playing again.

Excellent sprite work. As everyone else will say, good Outrun vibes.

I loved it. It evoked Outrun in all the best ways. The branching pathways really added to the replayability—I had to see what the other routes looked like. The spritework was gorgeous (the backgrounds were impressively evocative despite how few pixels they were made up of). At no point did I feel like the resolution was holding me back; you did a great job of making it stay readable despite the frantic pace.

This game gaves me a Crusin USA vibe :D

I love the radio haha, graphics, control everything!

Very good Job :)
