Did you work in a team?
If you don't count the gameplay music, this was a solo project that took about 60h to finish. Music was made by Airola.
Oh yeah, and my fiancee and her violin provided some sounds for me to edit. And my cat (without violin)!
Was the resolution a challenge?
Honestly, I found the resolution to be perfect for this project. Working on a smaller screen area made the thing more atmospheric.
Only "problem" I had was that my gamedev tool only zoomed to 400%, so placing objects was a bit hassle sometimes. Also I knew text could be an issue, so I draw all the text by hand! :D
What did you learn?
I recorded and edited most of the sound effects myself! Usually I use those randomized synth sounds (there's still some of those in this), but this time I took it a bit further. Turned out ok IMO!
I also found out that "do first, think later" mentality worked out in this project.

great game!! super implementation of the light, mood is also really great.
it was a lot of fun
Very cool take on horror exploration. The sound effects were very well done. I think the gameplay music could have been a little more in the background.
Graphics were excellent, especially the lighting effect. Kudos for that great logo too. It set a good tone for the rest of the game.
A fun little game, lots to explore, great atmosphere and tension. And a real spooky, but rewarding ending. Good work with this one!
Great mood setting. The music created an extremely tense atmosphere.
This was a really fun game. Good job! The music also wasn't annoying and it was kind of ominous. I'm not sure if I got the "good" ending or if there are multiple endings or more to explore. It was so cool how you utilized the backpack to be a health bar to save space. All in all this was a good job!
Thanks! Only one ending, but you can look for all the secrets to get an S rank!
I love the aesthetic. This reminds me of "Lone Survivor".
Thanks! That game looks interesting, is it worth checking out?
It's really well reviewed. To be honest I first (~2012) played it before I was actually interested in horror games so I didn't get too far, so can't speak too much from personal experience other than it has a great atmosphere. Your game reminded me of it, so I might give it another shot.
Lots of things going on in this game. I love how there are multiple ways to interact with items. The lighting system is very moody too. Loved it. Congratulations!
Thank you!
I like it!! but at first I didn't understand how to play, but I loved it !!
Thanks! I didn't want to hold players hand, so I left stuff for them to figure out. :)
The game starts in "true" 64x64 resolution, which was a bit annoying. In fact, I could not get it to scale up, so I used OBS to zoom in on the tiny window...
Anyways, I liked this game. The atmosphere is good, there's lots of exploration and details. You have to fill in the gaps with your own imagination, which I like. The basic enemy stops being threatening pretty quickly, but better too easy than impossible.
Oh that's weird. There should be maximize button on the title bar and also you can stretch the window in any size you want. Also, you can toggle fullscreen with F or Alt + Enter. I assume you have a 4K monitor? I did this because I thought if someone prefers playing in a window rather than fullscreen, this was only solution I came up with in Clickteam Fusion.
Thanks for playing! Yeah I made it a bit easy so people can see everything the game has to offer quickly rather than waste their time replaying same sections again and again.
Pressing F fixed it for me! You might want to put that in the game description.
Good call! Added.
it a good horror game, there many moment where the game caught me of guard. especially the first door next to the starting area the first time i play through it i panic and stumble through the item menu trying to use my blowtorch but failed miserably and die. and the music set the atmosphere quite well.
my only complain about it is the door. it take me a while to realize that the door that have the up and down prompt can actually lead into another different area because i was standing directly on it and i thought that was the door i was coming from. i mean there a few room where the door is used to just return back to prior room so it fell a bit off. maybe add a text near the button prompt that explain where the door will lead too if i press the button.
Thanks for the feedback! I totally agree that there's room for improvements for the door system. Having a strict deadline and not playtesting with others can lead to these kind of iffy decisions that make sense for the dev, but not for the player.
Well done. This reminds me of childhood memories. Games like this I played as a kid. I wasted time when I wasn’t focused about the signs. Overall nice finished and addictive also a little bit scary game. -oneak
Thanks for playing! Yeah navigation can be a bit tricky, but I didn't want this to be TOO linear. ;)
Cool to hear that this brought up some nostalgia. I'm myself a bit of a retro-game nerd, so I'm curious, does this remind you of some particular game?
Nostalgy reached the level that feels like Sega´s Alien Syndrome (1986) had just released yesterday. I could sometimes try developing myself that kind of system where the rooms are separate spaces. -oneak
Oh nice! I think I haven't played that one, but I can sense same vibes from looking at videos.
Hello! I played your game on stream! If you want to see your game played with live feedback, you can find the VOD and watch from this sheet: http://bit.ly/bean-stream
Thanks for trying it out! Seeing you play and hearing your comments makes me wish that I had implemented the quick-switch button for inventory items...
I don't typically go for horror themed games, but this was honestly pretty amazing!
Thank you for trying out my game!
Wow! Creepy and claustrophobic - a really impressive lowres 2D horror game. Music and directional light element are a perfect fit - congratulations
Thank you for the compliments!
