Join us for a Halloween/October Monster Jam!

As a Liminal Horror team we just couldn't pass up doing something for the month of October. As the leaves begin to turn and the scary movies start playing on your tvs, we wanted to throw together a quick and approachable community activity. What better way to celebrate the season then making some monsters!

  • Core Concept: The idea for the jam is simple: lets make some monsters for Liminal Horror.
  • What should you make? It can be an original creation, or inspired by your favorite horror movie, book, comic, or video game!
  • What format should it be? Entries can be simple text entries, laid out finished products and with or without art. The most important part is that you make something fun for play! The end results can be text files, pdfs, or any format you choose!

We have some resources to help inspire and guide you!

  1. Design Advice: Creator Kit SRD entry for Creating Horrors. This section gives advice and stat templates for creating your own monsters!: https://liminalhorrorrpg.com/srd-creating-horrors/
  2. Monster Exemplars: We also have some open license Horrors listed on the website that can be used as inspiration and exemplars: https://liminalhorrorrpg.com/srd-horrors/
  3. Creature Design Templates: Josh Domanski created the Liminal Horror Design Templates for the Horrors of the Americas Jam. These templates are a great tool for creating a clean Monster Layout. Pages 7 and 8 of the template showcase how you can lay out you Monster (it has a spot for art if you include that as well). These are based on the design templates we are using for the Deluxe Edition. You can use this template when creating your jam entry if you would like! https://unenthuser.itch.io/liminal-horror-design-templates
  4. I've put up a Patreon entry (free during the month of October) that showcases a bunch of different Special Abilities you could use to inspire your creations (or use with your monsters). This is potentially a future entry in an upcoming Case Files but I wanted to give a sneak peak as it may help you when creating your own for the jam! https://www.patreon.com/posts/special-and-140458063

5. Here are some examples of single column, single page, and spread monsters. These are from the Deluxe Edition (still in draft form) and can be used as exemplars when planning your own entries. Notice how only one has art, and while always a fun thing to include, should not hinder your choice to enter into the jam!

But Goblin, what will happen after I enter?

Well,  there'll be a few things.

  1. The top three entries (as chosen by the Liminal Horror Dev team) will get a 1 year membership to the Liminal Horror Patreon! https://www.patreon.com/cw/LiminalHorror
  2. Entries will be cataloged on the Liminal Horror Library website: https://liminalhorrorlibrary.com/
  3. We will also be highlighting entries on the Liminal Horror newsletter (which leverages the free member portion of patreon): https://www.patreon.com/LiminalHorror

So start planning your entries! You can enter as many times as you'd like.
