Briefly describe your project
Stemming from multiple local tourism companies interest in how AR could be leveraged, we built an AR app that allows users to discover local monuments/attractions in Downtown Detroit. Combining Lightship Maps, VPS, and the Coverage API we show local VPS locations juxtaposed onto a 2DMap to help orient and guide users from point to point. Once at the location, VPS looks for an activated Wayspot seamlessly and displays AR content. Currently the AR content is 2D and a hyperlink, but future iterations will contain UGC in the form of pictures taken from visitors at these locations which will persist, audio drops from historians, and more immersive gamification (i.e. scavenger hunt). We made the Interactive Compass generic enough so that it can be scaled to any and all VPS locations around the world! Specific AR content simply needs to be embedded into the app experience.
