Super cool game ! I really enjoyed the feeling of adventure. It’s also worked really well on a phone, which I understand it probably wasn’t meant for. However, the cursive was a little hard to read. But that could have also just have been me. Anyway Great game you did a fantastic job! :)

Developer(+1)

Thank you! Agree that the cursive font is a little hard to read, if I had more time I would've added an option to switch that with a more readable font. Also yes, it was a surprise to me that it works so well on a phone, but it's a nice bonus :)

This was a lot of fun! It was unpredictable, and it truly felt like my decisions were important to get my penguins home safely. Really well done! For it to be just a "text adventure" style game, you really knocked it out of the park.

My only feedback is that the font was a bit difficult to read at times, and I could see someone with English as not their first language struggle a bit to read the story.

Developer

Thank you!

Yes, totally agree about the font... If I'd had a little bit more time, I would've added an option to change the font to something easier to read. Also considered doing voice-over recordings of all the text, but also ran out of time for that.

Thanks so much for playing :D

The writing was fantastic and the music really sets a mood! Bless that walrus

Developer

Thank you!  He can be a life-saver, for sure :P

I'm not usually into these games however this was quite enjoyable, I do think at times it was very difficult to understand the font and also found a way to cheekily get more fish without losing morale, overall was a fun experience

Developer(+1)

Yes, the font is a little tough to read, though I liked the hand-written journal feel. I considered adding an option to switch fonts but ran out of time.

What was your cheeky fish trick?

Submitted

Going fishing and not continuing to fish then just going to fish again lets you get unlimited food but lose 0 morale as far as I can tell.

I'm not a big fan of choice making games but this one was pretty good. Didn't drag for too long, and the  art text and music is very soothing. There's something satisfying about getting the penguins to their destination.

Developer

Thank you, I'm not usually either, but there's something about a game jam that pushes you in directions you wouldn't ordinarily go. Thanks for checking it out!

This is nice and easy. I love the music on cello here. It's very emotive. The artwork is really good as well. Good job!

Developer(+1)

Appreciate it! Yes, the sound design really added a lot to the atmosphere, I'm glad I found time to add it in. I created a simple dynamic score system to adjust the music based on your current morale, so the worse things get, the sadder the music is. It's rudimentary, but I'm pleased to have squeezed it in there. Thanks again!

It's really good, you should be proud of it. May I ask how you have implemented the audio in your game? What engine have you used to develop the game?

Developer(+1)

It's built in Unity. For the music, I created a basic "Score Manager" that chooses from 1 of 3 different pieces of music depending on your current morale, so as things get worse, the music gets darker and sadder. It's pretty rudimentary, but I think the effect works pretty well.

Code is available here, if you want to take a look: https://github.com/tonyrobots/penguinexpedition/blob/master/Assets/Scripts/Score...

Amazing work on getting interactive music done through scripting. I am curious and I will take a look at it. Thanks for sharing :)

In return for your share, if you're working on another game in a future jam, I would love to collaborate with you for audio implementation. I work with Wwise-Unity integration to implement my sounds (just a beginner though :D)

Definitely, will let you know!
