Cool tower defense game i liked it cool light mechanic

I love TD games and the beam mechanic was a nice addition to the classic format, I got to wave 9 but in the end they got my head :(

Submitted

Love the idea of using light to activate buildings!

Very nice game! It's fun to think about where to place them for the best efficiency. And the best part is the sound effects! Great work!!

Developer(+1)

Thanks for the comments, the other dev is going to be happy to hear you liked his sound effects, mostly self-recorded, a few take from Kenney.

Developer

very glad you liked it !! and yeah, like my colleague said, we had a lot of fun with the sound effects :)

I absolutely love tower defence games, and the twist of targeting the enemies with the light is great. If you polish this game up a bit it has great potential. Things like different stages, wait times between waves etc.

Also the strategy of "spin around at the speed of light" seemed to work a bit too well for me :p

Developer

Hey, thanks for the feedback and the ideas !

There's definitely a lot more polishing to do and improvements to implement , but its really cool that you like the main mechanic !

We tried to incentive spinning around a bit less by making the beam increase reload speed (after all, despite the theme , doing nothing but spinning isnt fun haha) but evidently we need to balance that a bit more :P

I really like to see some clever new mechanics introduced in tower defense game and this one was pretty neat. The mechanic of activating towers with a flashlight is something I haven't seen before anywhere and it is works really well for increasing strategic value in tower placement. My only complaint is that it takes some time to get the economy flowing as first money comes hard. Once you get it going it's a really neat tower defense game.

PS. Really love how you used assets to make big main castle.

Developer

Thanks a lot for playing and for your kind feedback !

And thanks for drawing our attention to the money issue in the first waves, that's  definitely an area that needs to be carefully balanced.

adicive, i survived 9 waves, but when i have a lot of houses and all of them shoot it gets glitchy and laggy and sound a really loud and noisy scream

Developer

Hey thanks for playing !

Yeah unfortunately when you get quite far into the game it becomes quite buggy, we didn't have time to fix that. hope it didnt ruin your experience !

I have always loved tower defense games. The rotating light you have to shine on to the buildings is a very nice idea and fits very well with the theme. Great job!

Developer

Glad to hear you enjoyed it!

A very nice addition to the tower defense genre! Took me some time to understand when the towers are shooting, but after that I had a lot of fun playing it!

PS: I'm tweeting about the games I play from this jam. Here is yours: https://twitter.com/TheAntonSem/status/1430074329824383003

Thanks for the shout-out ! Great to hear you enjoyed it !

True, we should have thought about inserting some ingame text to explain the mechanics .

Thanks for your feedback :)

Wow, You managed to turn a tower defence game into a really interesting action game with one mechanic! I Liked this a lot!!

I thought it was pretty unforgiving how easy it is to miss enemies when when the beam is so narrow, but then I realized I could just put my towers in straight lines and the game is endless anyway so I have to die at some point.

Really cool game! I survived 12 waves

Developer(+1)

Really glad you liked it so much !
Yes, it still needs quite a bit of tweaking , balancing the mechanics was an interesting challenge.

Thanks for playing ! :)

Nice game! I had bugs with sound and low fps at the end of the game, but I liked the game and the concept itself, the modified tower defense!

Developer (1 edit)

Thanks for playing ! Yeah unfortunately we realized too late that there some memory leaks that get really bad around the 10th wave or so , making the game a lot less enjoyable. sorry about that, but we're really glad that you liked it !

Great tower defense! Really cool the "beacon" mechanic!

Developer(+1)

Thanks ! great to hear you enjoyed the mechanic

Really cool take on a tower defense game! In most TD games I've played you build up the towers and let them do the work for you, so needing to power them was a cool twist!

Developer

Thanks for playing and for your feedback !  : )

The idea and concept is nice, but it's kinda frustrating to have thoses towers hitting sooooo badly, like, I had 2 towers trying to hit one guy and keep missing :D.

I'm suprised each time people got a concept revolving around rotation with a tower defense, i really tryed but found nothing interesting haha.

Developer

Haha, yeah honestly the tower targeting is a bit trash... That's would've been on the to-do list for future upgrades. Thanks for the comment

Survived 8 wave. That was a lot of chaos ! 👍

Developer

The peasants, they just never give up do they.... hahaha thanks for playing!

Very nice work! I really like the mechanic requiring the player to focus where the "towers" will actually fire at the incoming hordes.

Developer

I'm glad you liked it!
