This is brilliant! The gameplay is incredibly fun and I love the amount of detail in the things you're able to do i.e gathering materials and building structures, the small and large characters you can spawn as well as the different enemies that appear. There's lots of variety, and it never becomes mundane through the small amount of time I can survive haha. I'm always on edge and always having fun. There's a great challenge, and I absolutely want to keep playing to see how far I can get!

I'm obsessed with the little walking animations!!! They're too cute!!!!!!!!! I love the models (especially big snail boi) and that you're able to customise the colour of your fellas. Super well done on this game!

It definitely needs a lot more direction (and a couple bug fixes) as I'm not a player of these games I was confused at first, but with the amount of stuff that needs explaining I can't blame you for the brief text tutorial. Once you know what needs to be done, it makes a lot more sense and you can plan out your strategy. We also talked about how a mini-map would be a great addition as well as lots of sound.

Here's the VOD of our first impressions but failing to note the big bad glitch.

And here's the loveliest VOD where I got to chat with you and have Ellis be my personal guide haha! (I'll update with a new link once the VODs expire).

I enjoyed playing this game. The RTS worked well and the text that guides the player through the game was helpful too. The art was impressive and I liked the unit wobble you have throughout the game. A nice aesthetic I felt. Nice work.

I am totally shocked by the fact that there is an RTS addition in this game jam! I find that genre so underastimated and hard to produce. You have done a great job by including various core mechanics, part of some of the greatest RTS games.

Overall, the game feels well, the mechanics are clear and the visuals are good. I would like to see a full version of the game some day!

I'm terrible at RTS but the visual concept was super cool, especially opening with the palette customisation!

I was a little confused by how to target trees and the cost of new structures but directing units and watching them totter across the 'board' to attack enemies was very satisfying.

Developer

Thank you! We deffo were going for a satisfying look, and thanks for the ease-of-access feedback, pricing has been noted :)

The jiggling is just so wonderful.

Developer(+1)

Thank you! The wiggles, jiggles and flicks into the air were VITAL to the gameplay, I assured the programmer

One of my favourite genres are RTS games, big respect for starting one for a gamejam, as it's quite hard to find tutorials about them online in my opinion. You guys managed to do the base controls, made excellent unit sculpts, and the concept and theme of the game were very interesting. Although I failed several times, later I managed to survive until the 12th day (and onward if I don't quit), killed all three bosses, too bad there were no win conditions. My biggest problem was the lack of sound, it would have made the game much more memorable. Also a smaller map would have helped, as the camera scroll speed was very slow compared to how fast you need to manage your units in the beginning. Thankfully once you massproduce archers they can kill every enemy before they touch anything. :D Once again well done with the game, I enjoyed playing it a lot.

Developer

Thanks for the detailed review mate! I think we agree about the smaller map, perhaps the map size would have been more justified if there were more things to go and find? as is, the forests feel a bit wasteland-y, and I fully agree about sound, asap to be honest.
Thank you for the help :)

This is excellent! The models and overall art is fantastic, the concept is solid, and the animations feel really well weighted. I definitely suck at the game and my top score is 2 days, so feel maybe players less experienced in this genre (me) could do with a bit more guidance on how to survive, as following the tutorial only seemed to get me killed more quickly.

Could do with a nicely polished UI and sound effects to go with it, although it's clear to see where you put your time in. Will definitely keep an eye on this one, I'd love to see what you do with it!

Thank you so much! The tutorial being a little bit flakey i think is mostly a product of our little team size, finding fresh faces to playtest until it's clear what you're supposed to do is a full time job! and we were in giga-crunch in the last few days. Thanks for the feedback! we're also excited to see what happens <3

Lovely Game! Can't Wait!

Thank you!

Very ambitious of trying to make an RTS game within six weeks and you guys seem to have nailed something down. It reminds me of chess when playing this game which makes me think that it might be interesting to add some chess elements to the game. Overall, it looks great.

Developer

What a lovely think to say! Thanks mates, your game looks really cute, can't wait to give it a try as well :3

really really cool art style loved it.  look forward to seeing where it goes.

Developer

Thank you! so are we!

I love how your game has it's own visual identity. I could see this being developed further a become quite a popular rts especially with multiplayer.

The idea of each character being a piece is brilliant, an inspires me to try and be more create and unique in the way I want to present my own characters in the future.

Well done.

Developer

This means a lot! We really had to rack our brains about how we could get it to be dynamic and interesting without any rigged animation, i'm glad the wacky wonky tippy taps of the models walk cycles has charm hahaha.
Thanks a lot for playing <3

Huge gaming moment, seal of approval.

Developer

Thanks matey, Seal of reply approved.

I want to preface this by saying that I am rubbish at these sort of games.

I really love the models and style, the pieces are really cool and the play area looks right out of a full release, really good job.

I found the gameplay very challenging ( I could barely make it past one night) and found I was quickly overwhelmed by enemies before I could establish much defence. (I was also attacked during the tutorial in multiple playthroughs which threw me off a bit). But with some practice I could see myself improving vastly.

Great work, and Loved seeing the models throughout development on the discord :D

we really pushed a lot of effort into the art so it's super kind of you to say it looks like a full release! :O

We've taken on board the comments about balance and will be releasing a patch in the near future, we're pretty sure what the main issues are given the feedback we've been given, thank you for playing and being a helpful data point, banana man <3

Models are incredible, as we in the discord were all well aware of beforehand ;). Managed 11 days, it seems like you can be completely stable unless you open the demon chest because the boss seemed completely unkillable and lost barely any HP despite being shot at by a huge army, but maybe I'm just bad. It's a bit clunky to select your boys and buildings as the selection hitbox is not the full base as you'd expect it to be. It also got very annoying that the workers can only hand in stuff at one specific point on the outside of the sanctum that I unfortunately mostly blocked off with my inn that I could then not remove... Game could also use a way to quit other than Alt+F4, XD. However I had good fun creating a desperate gunline and waddling my brightly painted knights through the forests (the painting of the army is a brilliant feature). not sure if there was supposed to be sound but it didn't work? A few sounds and particles would really complete it. Give me more toy soldiers pls. Good job!

Developer

It's a fantastic sanity check when all the criticism of a comment looks like you've read the teams personal notes hahaha, I could not agree more

There is currently a running theme of the Pentagram bosses scaling in difficulty much faster than the regular demons. This will be fixed in a patch for sure, currently the user experience is something like

Setup > Fun > Fun boss > Setup > Live for ages because you're good enough > Open DemonTythe box > Get utterly wrecked by Orolighet.

we've got some balancing to do! also all the bugs you've mentioned are on point as well, the game has no audio but the dreaded selection bug is and has been on our list for a reaaally long time coming

thank you so much for playing and leaving such an in-depth review <3

This is making me nostalgic for warhammer, which is funny since I've never actually played it. I love the video you guys put together and the game over all it's pretty good! <3

Developer

Thank you! Love making someone feel something with an artstyle, feels powerful, what will we do with this power. who knows. this is a threat

We appreciate you playing!

Fantastic concept!

Thanks for playing <3

Unique concept and beautifully made models! Gameplay is fun and engaging, however we think that it would be cool if the enemies dropped resources when killed, reducing the amount of time the player has to spend managing workers whilst units are fighting (Or alternatively, auto-farming workers). Unfortunately, no audio was present in the build (Even after re-installing, etc).  Really interesting take on an RTS and we look forward to what it develops into! Keep it up!

Developer(+1)

Thanks for playing and leaving a detailed review!
The game has no audio at all, that's a we-had-a-small-team issue not an installation issue hahaha

I think the tutorial needs a lot of work because after using their skillshot the workers are more or less automatic for the rest of their (probably) short little lives.

Thanks for the feedback, everything is useful! Glad you enjoyed it <3

Can't wait to see it more fleshed out!

A really enjoyable experience with tense moments that never let you relax for long. I look forward to seeing where this game goes moving forward
