I see a lot of potential in your game!
Pro points you already mastered:
Con points you may consider:
No offence intended, but I can say only: it is very raw at the moment. It is not even clear how to play! How can I get +3 Water while having the entire deck of "research +1"? I have dropped the entire hand out, failing a streak of tasks and losing with "Research [5]".
I used to play both Digital (Hearthstone) and Physical (Берсерк: Герои), it is very close to each other.
Thanks for the review.
Yes I guess starting with a bunch of objectives that you can fail can be demotivating.
I will add the ability to see your deck and that will show that the players starting deck has cards specific to water generation, if you dilute your deck with cards from other sources early it will probably be possible to lose the whole game (too) early.
I have a guided tutorial being developed which will help in some aspects, but I think also from this feedback I will ensure the first hand you can draw will always have at least one non research card and one research card.
Sure. A classic mulligan (opportunity to replace some cards in your hand with a next ones from your deck before the game starts) is also needed.
I'm probably not the target audience either; I don't play digital card games, physical card games, or board games.
I started off with the feeling of "this needs a tutorial and does not have one". I did eventually sort of figure things out, but the game really doesn't help you much. Some little improvements like being able to hover over the resource types for a name and brief description would really help. The research window could do a better job of showing you why you can or can't research something.
I ran into at least one bug. I got a +2 Research card that was huge and could not be played.
I think the premise of this game is going to be divisive; some people are going to like it and some aren't. I'm kind of in the latter group- the game grew on me, but I'd probably pass it over if I was casually browsing.
References to "Earth" but fictional countries feels strange.
This wouldn't have been a problem if I'd downloaded it, but the size of the browser playable version is awkward; it doesn't fit in a reasonably sized browser window though if I maximized it to my entire monitor it did fit.
The art was pretty good; I'm not sure it meets the threshold for a commercial release yet but it's closer than I expected. I think declaring some things as "this is a placeholder and x thing is supposed to be here" was a smart choice. The music fits the game really well.
I wish I could offer more useful feedback but like I said in the beginning, I'm not really the target audience.
Thanks for the review!
Yes a tutorial is definitely in the works. Tooltips and general popups also for sure will be included at some point.
Thats a lot of useful and thoughtful feedback, thanks a lot.
I can call the countries a mix of existing countries like New America but I wasn't sure which countries to include, feel bad for any I miss out aha. The lore reasons are the the end of the world has happened and nothing of the old countries before the climate apocalpyse remain, perhaps I can include this somewhere.
Whoops, will fix that +2 research card bug, it doesn't get reset to a normal card before being added to the deck, scale and click listener are set for the "add card to deck" screen still.
I really like the story, although I am probably not your target audience for this game in general. I do play some physical card games and a few digital card games (I got really into Magic Arena for a while when it first came out) but I generally prefer action or adventure video games. Having said that it seems like it's a solid card game, I managed to make it several months into my survival. It could have been an operator error but I eventually had to stop when a very large research card appeared over my "next turn" button and would not allow me to progress (Still not sure if it was a bug or if I just didn't understand how to use the card properly). Art was nice as well. I will come back to give you a rating I'm playing ahead to get as many games tested out as I can from the Jam. Nice work!
Thanks a lot for the review!
Not operator error thats my bad - research cards you unlock from the shop are still in shop mode and therefore bugged when in the hand, whoops.
Cheers I need to play and review games still and will start with yours :)
