Too short, not much of story.

Thanks for the feedback I guess ๐Ÿ˜‚

Happy holidays

Very charming and lovable characters. Very short but solid. It would have been nice to learn more about the story.

Developer

Thank you so much! And I agree, I hope to expand the demo after the judging is over.

The art is very nice, as is the lighting used in the maps. There's obviously a lot of care taken in the visual presentation for the game. Music is alright, too. Unfortunately, the rest of the game, while 'cute' is rather bland and there's really not much there to show what the game would or could be. Which is a pity because there's obviously a story the dev wants to tell but said story just isn't shown.

We don't learn much of anything and there's no conflict shown to peak our interest. The game ends with a "here's a character in the future don't you want to know who they are?" which would be fine if the character had anything interesting about them - they're not shown doing anything or saying anything of interest.

What gameplay is there is very simplistic puzzles - checking spots before a timer runs out, typing in the answer to a puzzle and collecting numbers for a code (I couldn't get the sun puzzle so I just fudged the numbers since I had the other two).

Ultimately the game is cute, but it didn't really make me want to play more of it. Man cannot play on cuteness alone~

Thank you for the feedback! You make really valid points and I agree that it's lacking in actual gameplay and story. I really wish I could've gotten more work done, I got a bit too focused on the visuals. Thanks for the video too, I really liked the voices you did โ™ฅ

I hope the final game will be interesting enough to get you to play it again!

I love your art already, but I didn't expect you to make a game. I really like it. It's super adorable and the mini game was fun.  However I am not smart with puzzles so I had to cheat my way out of the "sun" puzzle haha. Keep up the good work!

Developer

Thank you so much! I'm glad you had fun โ™ฅ

I hope the sun puzzle wasn't too hard, I probably should make a guide or something haha

One if the cutest RPG Maker game demo, can't wait for the full game!

Thank you so much! I'm glad you like it โ™ฅ

Just played the demo.  Definitely gives a nostalgia feel that you can't find in many games.  I felt like I was starting a new Chrono Trigger type adventure.  This looks promising and I can't wait to play the whole thing.  Interested to see what happens with "Marsh" (I named Boop!  Kinda looks like a little green marshmallow so I went with that heh).

Like Chrono Trigger, it would be nice if all the characters in game could be renamed just like back in the old days.  Other than that, I like the idea of the puzzles just to move the plot.  Very Final Fantasy III or Chrono Trigger or Legend of Zelda -like you know?  Have yourself five stars.

Thank you so much for playing, I'm really happy that you like it!

Also that's a great name for him I really like it haha

I'll consider the naming thing! It sounds interesting :>

Here's my review of Endless Night.

Developer (1 edit) (+1)

Hi, thank you so much for reviewing my game! I didn't expect anyone to make a video so I'm really happy that you took the time to record and edit one. It really means a lot to me. If you don't mind I'll put my replies to your final thoughts in this comment:

- I'm glad you like the art! A lot of time went into it so I'm happy it didn't go unnoticed.

- I'm not sure what the issue was with the music and lag during hide and seek. I have a pretty powerful computer so it was a gamble to see how it would play on other devices.  As a viewer I got annoyed too, so I will look into that and if I can't fix it I'll make it skip-able or replace it.

- The length is very short indeed. I would've liked to add more content but due to the time-limit and my inexperience with eventing puzzles etc. everything took longer to make. So I decided that I would rather have a well functioning introduction than a buggy game. I tried to tease a bit with the maps at the end to show that this wasn't everything the full game is going to be.

I will keep working on it, I might update the demo too, to give everyone a bit more to think about. Since I expect it will take some time to get the full game out.

Anyway, thanks a lot for the review! You were the first person I've seen play my game so it was very exciting and interesting for me.  I'm glad I got a few laughs out of you too haha

Also bob is a great name for him

Sorry for the late reply, but for some reason I didn't get an alert that you replied.

So I just went back and replayed it without the recording software running and I didn't have a problem, so it looks like it was just my computer trying to do too much at once. I do have a somewhat older computer. That being said,  RPG Maker games don't load any of the resources until they're called for by the game, so large files can cause hiccups like what we saw in my playthrough. My submission last year was very reliant on large music and image files, so I had to use a pre-loader plugin to load all the files when the game starts and make the game run smoothly, but that was using MV. You may want to see if there's a similar script available for VX Ace. That could help with players using less-than-optimal computers, like this old fart.

As for the length, as much as I wanted the demo to be longer (which, even despite the issues I was having, I did want to play more), if the choice was between a small nugget of gold and large pile of garbage, then you made the right choice to go for the small nugget of gold (I had to do the same thing for mine, so don't feel bad). This is a a really cute game and I'm excited to see what else you have planned for it, so let me know when you have any updates.
