We all love making zines in Decker (or at least I do, I've made like 35 of them). And we all love the physical DIY nature of print zines. But can we bridge these two mediums? Yes. We can and I did and you can too!
I've made a template for Decker for making zines that can be paged through in a sensible Decker sort of interface, but also exported at the click of a button to a printable 8-page A4 sheet foldable type thing. Like, a hybrid zine that exists as both a Decker deck and a print zine. A Decker zine with a print button! This is a jam to make zines with this template!
Short summary: 8-page zines made in Decker using my template, that can be read on your device and also exported for printing in the real world.
- Submissions must be made in Decker, using my hybrid zine template to enable exporting it out for print.
- Submissions should be playable as an HTML embed in itch.
- Feel free to add additional download versions, e.g. unlocked decks if you want. You shouldn't need to include like a PDF or anything though, in theory the idea is the reader should use the button in your deck to generate that themselves.
- Since this jam is launching pretty soon after I'm putting the template out, I am not too fussed about if you get an early start before the submission period. And if you want to repurpose some old material for the format that's cool.
- Feel free to tweak the template if you want. Different palettes etc all good, and encouraged.
- Serious rule, absolutely no use of generative AI tools or outputs is allowed for submissions to this jam.
- In general, content rules are "anything that's acceptable on itch" but I'm going to say nothing hateful or bigoted please.
If you'd like to talk jam stuff, there's a thread in the Decker community forum!
