Historical Accuracy
The exact nature of Rasputin's assassination is contested in the modern day. Early reports claim he consumed copious amounts of poison without any distress, and took multiple gunshots and drowning to be killed, but modern accounts claim that he may have not consumed as much (or any) poison - and was killed with a single gunshot.
The first account is much more compelling, so I based it off of that!
Thematic Relevance
This game follows a detective "solving" historical assassinations, as I thought it was an interesting twist on the premise. Entering the level, the detective already has some knowledge of the history, such as the killers, but must identify the motive and murder weapon that was used.

A gritty black-and-white game that fits the crime.
Some feedback:
- I think placing the dialogue/text boxes at the top of the screen rather the bottom, where all the points of visual interest are, would be better for this game.
- I wish the rock was gone when I did try to pick it up, haha.
I wasn't sure how to solve the accusation part of the game, as even after finding the potassium cyanide and revolver, and then interrogating the killers, it didn't "solve the case" for me.
Still, sets a mood, and was fun to click through. Great job making it! Thanks for sharing it with us.
That’s a really fair point on the text box placement, I’ll definitely change that after the rating period is over (have been working on an update since the submissions ended in order to get it to the state that I envisioned)
Regarding the accusation, its definitely a bit rough in its current state and the contested nature of its history didn’t help matters lol.
Accusation Info
Historically (but wildly contested), Rasputin was poisoned from the wine & cake, but was unaffected. As a result, he was shot instead. I tried to hint at this by having some text describe death by cyanide and how it differed from the body / crime scene, but I originally planned to have some way of “testing” the poison to prove that it wasn’t the final cause of death.
Regarding the accusation, the correct combination would be that the group of nobles killed Rasputin using the revolver due to his the fear of his influence. To solve it, you need to access the cellar, then find the revolver and letters at / in the desk. After that, you can “accuse” while talking with the killers and a correct selection should cause an end screen
Looking forward to the update - Good luck with that!
I think I did try that combination of accusations, but it didn't work for me.
I'll revisit once you've had an update and check again for a proper ending. :D
Strange, will definitely do some bug testing on that part then! Thanks again!
My pleasure. ^^
The pixel art was very good. The point and click investigation mechanics worked really well with the setting. The game overall has a lot of character, well done.
Thank you! Love your submission!
I liked the visual consistency and sense of humor in your game!
Thank you!
Pretty good for your first game! I like the noir-style aesthetic, and I think this is a great premise that I would like to see developed further. Maybe other games centered around other famous murders from history? Idk, just an idea. Shame there was no audio and no music, and the game itself was pretty short too. Still, good job!
Yeah was really hoping to add more to it - but just didn't get it all to the point I wanted. Definitely would love to add other "levels" though with other eras
pretty simple & short, but like the vibe :)
Definitely short, had a lot more planned but just couldn't get those aspects to the point I wanted. Love your submission btw!
I had fun playing this. I like the style. I had to enter the cellar twice because I didn't realize there were more options.
Thank you! I had some trouble figuring out how the looping worked in the dialogue system, which definitely can cause some options with figuring out how many options were remaining. Looking back, I should have compartmentalized the dialogue more to help with that.
I got there in the end though and it was enjoyable. You did well to overcome the hurdle. I definitely understand the dialogue structure trouble as I've had that myself.
