For a first game jam this is really impressive! SFX, VFX, animations, music you did a lot!

Here's some feedback:
- For me there is too much controls, when playing with the mouse it is just not possible to move the camera around. This is not a problem for this game jam tho but keep it in mind if you plan on building a bigger game 😉
- Controller support would have been appreciated too!
- The rat king has too much HP, it feels like a chore at some point

Good job!

Developer

thanks for the feedback! we are planning on making this to proper game

Really enjoyed the game! Art is really nice, and the gameplay experience was smooth. Definitely someone has been playing Hollow Knight recently!

Developer

thank you for playing!

This is such a beautiful smooth gameplay experience. It is superb but it needs a bit balancing, here and there. The movement is super solid and the art is amazing. The boss seems to last forever :) and the enemies are skippable with a dash. The sound effects are good too.

Developer

thank you for the kind words!

Wow, this is a good looking platformer. Not exactly sure the ties to the theme, but it feels solid. I found the rat king but couldn't defeat it. I think that's maybe more of a skill issue though. I need to git good :)

I think the game may benefit from having an explanation of the controls though. Something easy might be to have the controls on the cave walls at the start or maybe throughout the level. I kinda just resorted to pressing all the keys on my keyboard to see what does what. Having J to attack made no sense to me at all. I think at one point I accidentally found a heal mechanic. And now that I'm looking at the title again I think I might've found the "rewind" mechanic while stationary, so I don't think it was clear what had happened.

Also, I'm not sure if the tent was meant to do something. It kinda stood out from the background a bit so I thought I was supposed to enter it. I think that's when I tried pressing all the keys, but I couldn't figure it out.

Developer

Thanks for playing! Yeah, you're right should've explained the mechanics better

That was really fun, and I can see it has great potential. I am sure you plan to, but if not, you should really expand on this game and build on its time rewind mechanic. Other than a small bug where you can't move on respawn, my only issue was the game's length. I would have really liked to play more of this!

Wow! Seriously impressive, the movement is very very smooth. And the animations make the game feel super polished. You have the skeleton of something really cool here, i'd be excited to see more work done on it!

Congrats on your first game jam! Great game feel and I loved the animations. Healing never worked for me and I couldn't figure out the use for the time rewind mechanic. Unfortunately after I died and respawned, I couldn't move nor attack.

The some might think the screenshake is too much but I really liked that! And the sfx are pretty nice, good job!

Animations and art are really cool. But I felt like the rewind mechanic was not much more than a heal, it needs something but not sure what exactly. Cool vibe though!

Great gameplay mechanics, the movement and attacks were smooth. VFX on the dash and attacks were nice and snappy. Overall, I enjoyed the game a lot!

There's so much potential in this rewind mechanic! I didn't get good enough to really see how to really use/abuse it, but it felt like I should be able to really stretch my health or get more hits in with. The combat is excellent, and the art and combat are both solid. I enjoyed the enemy variety as well.

I like DoubleFrap's suggestion to make the rewind required in some way, though I don't know what that would be exactly. Maybe a puzzle-y thing like Braid, where you fall in a pit that's a bit too far to jump, then it teaches you both rewind and double jump and/or dash? Not sure.

i think it could be more fun if you polish it

Movement is really slick, but there is not much to go on for how the rewind mechanic would be used, i wish there was something in the first section that encouraged or required it to help me understand why i have it

The movement in this game is really nice! Great jumping, running, dashing, and slashing feel.

Thank you, we spent a lot of time working on the controls.  It’s really validating to hear people think they feel good.

I really enjoyed this game! The movement is super slick, and the protagonist makes you feel like a mashup between Link and a Dark Souls knight. The art in general is cool. Controls worked as described, and the healing / time regeneration speed felt perfect so I never had too much or was left wanting more. The rewind feature was cool throughout -- I used it against mainly the ranged enemies.

My only nitpick is that the feature didn't work properly on the final boss whenever I wanted to pull them back into frame, though we could chalk it up as them perhaps being just immune to it :) . Also the feature may shine more with some dangerous platforming elements -- that way if you miss your jump it's a perfect reason to use rewind outside of combat.

Awesome work and congrats on your first game jam! It was my first too, feels great doesn't it?

It does feel great to share something you created and let others experience it. We had to cut a lot of content and features on the last day and only kept what was working and presentable. For example, we planned to have 3 bosses but only the Rat King made it in. The environment design was also neglected because I focused too much on the main character and enemies. I only started working on level design in the last two days of the jam, so things like pitfalls had to be removed after I ran into a fatal bug. A lot of the art my teammate made, like NPC and other enemy designs also went unused.

Even with all of that, I learned a lot during this game jam and despite the frustrations as my first game jam, I had a lot of fun :)

The animations, sound and art are really amazing in this, and the UI is super clean too. I just don't quite understand what the rewind feature adds to the gameplay. While jumping through the world, I never really found a reason to use it. I would also suggest changing the control layout. Having to have both hands so close to each other on the keyboard makes it a little difficult and uncomfortable to control. I would like to reiterate though how great the basic combat and platforming looks and feels though, keep it up! :))

Thank you so much for your feedback, it's encouraging.

This game is sickk! It has really good potential outside of a game jam and also reminds me alot of Hollow Knight/Celeste :D

i'd also love to hear your thoughts on my game too if you have the time :)
