Cool sci-fi theme with a fairly simple but serviceable combat, though the number of random encounters do get tedious as others have pointed out already. I'm glad I got my 5 gold's worth of items and equipment! Amusing to explore to find my way to all those weird items to interact with, Harold should have picked the USB-C drive, and be glad to have Glenda in his life.
Thanks for playing! And yeah, I have an update waiting in the wings when the jam is over that will address random encounters when the player is tired of them.
Lots of really cool visuals. A lot were off in the ways that AI messes up, but those battlers were pretty cool! I liked that neon death guy and the dragon that had its tail and head reversed.
Combat was not super fun, and battles were way to frequent. A few scripted battles to show all the cool battlers would have sufficed, especially after I had to backtrack a bunch of times. Also the USB gag was worth a chuckle, but not 5 times man!
This was clearly a joke entry, but it does I think provide a nice test case for AI assisted RM games. I can see someone taking development much more seriously and making a pretty unique looking game. I doubt AI can generate fun game mechanics, story, or fingers, but there are at least some things it can do pretty well.
Thanks! Glad you enjoyed it for the most part. I've been thinking about cutting the USB thing down a couple or maybe putting the terminals much closer together. Also plan to fix the random battle situation. I definitely made a few missteps here and there that I plan to correct after the jam is over.
Overall: I think you and I both agree AI should not be making our games.
Gameplay: Pretty basic. Battles were kinda pointless and parallax maps were a little annoying to traverse. At least a human being actually made the damn game!
Music: First Harold game I've heard to have djent in it. Unfortunately it's generated by Udio and is probably coming for my dream job.
Story: A decent dungeon romp with a great plot twist.
Graphics: This artist cannot draw hands dude.
Comedy: Did Grok write this game? AI Harold is trying way too hard to be a Marvel character. Island Requirement was funny though, and the ending and credits got a good snort out of me too.
Thanks for playing! If you got a few good laughs out of it then mission accomplished.
I have no words. Should've sent an AI poet.
Not sure if this is good or bad but thanks for checking out my entry either way. 😁
Overall: It was a solid jam entry, with a good through line story that never strayed from it's theme.
Gameplay: Maybe it's just me, but having interesting looking maps to explore and look at, and then being punished for that exploration with invisible, random battles, feel like trying to browse the early web only to be slammed with useless popups over and over again. And ultimately the battles didn't feel interesting. The USB/item hunt was alright.
Music: It was atmospheric.
Story. It had a solid beginning, middle and end, and carried the game through, even if it was simple. It worked for the jam well enough.
Graphics: (Cries in traditional artist) I LOVE that you gave Harold expressions! That salvaged this rating a little.
Comedy. I didn't find the humor all that funny, but I'm an outlier in that i don't find most things that are supposed to be funny actually funny. I recognized the jokes, at least! The one joke wore thin after the first instance, but was quite amusing the first time.
It felt like a game that was trying to do too much with too little time. I would suggest, if you wanted to go back and tighten up this game at all, is change the battles to Event encounters and make your equipables either discoverable, or harder to obtain. As is the fights just didn't feel balanced or impactful to the game, except to interrupt things for little to no reason.
Thanks for the review! I do plan on giving the player a way to stop all of the random encounters when they're tired of seeing monsters in the next update once the jam is finished. Bit of an oversight on my part but easily fixable.
Solid humor, I laughed and then I boo'ed the ending. Just sad Glenda didn't have green eyes and a confident smile.
Awesome! Making an AI-assisted game for laughs was something I’ve wanted to do for awhile, but never got around to it.
The game’s strong point was definitely the exploration, like seeing all the weird crap lying around the world. Unfortunately, the constant random encounters made this really tedious, even with the instant-kill superweapon. In fact, they were so annoying that I actually went into the game code and disabled them after awhile so I could explore freely. That said, the AI-generated enemy sprites were pretty cool. (Yes, I’m one of the rare people who doesn’t freak out over AI created assets)
Now, I’m not sure if it’s a player error or a bug, but I’m stuck at 80% on the decryption and there’s nothing left to interact with. Trying to find this missing 20% was what actually prompted me to delete the random encounters–and even then I never found the last part. Oh well, was cool while it lasted.
So good job overall, but if you decide to touch it up, please reconsider the use or at least frequency of the random encounters. :)
Most likely, it's the room dto the right of the starting area. As soon as you enter the door, look down below. The other four are in the last four rooms leading up to and including the room with the door you are decrypting. I encourage you to try to finish it up. There's a good number of jokes left that you haven't seen yet.
I plan to put in an extra item that EMPs all of the monsters (disables all encounters for the rest of the game and levels you up to 10) or something like that.
Thanks for checking my game out. I hope you're able to finish it.
Omgggg this entry was super funny. xD I know AI is a controversial topic, and it might turn some people off, but ya'll should give this a chance, it's all in good fun. I love how it makes fun of A.I. and there's a lot of funny texts with the items and whatnot. Although I feel like the random encounters frequency was a bit much, thankfully you can easily faceroll thru them with the strong gears or just escape. xD Overall, it's a very fun humorous entry despite the usage of A.I. resources. :D Great job! <3
Thanks! Looking forward to checking out your entry.
This was surprisingly good considering the heavy use of AI!
The humour was actually pretty good, it got more than a few laughs out of me!
I have to admit that the game was mostly not very fun. The encounters were mercifully easy thanks to the overpowered weapon you're given, but that only lended to increasing the tedium as you walk back and forth in this sci-fi world.
The AI art was definitely used in a humourous way and it's clear to me that you are definitely not using this game to tout the strengths of AI. With that said, due to the ethically dubious nature of the art, I still have to give it a 1 in the graphics department. I assume, based on the rhetoric of this game, you probably weren't expecting a high rating in that category, and rest assured that it didn't hurt the rest of your ratings from me!
This was pretty funny, and it's a solid entry in spite of itself!
Thanks! Honestly, my goal is to just make people laugh.
Well, that was fun. I got a few good chuckles when playing this game.
Anyway, Glenda best waifu!
Thank you!
