Ha, I like the intro and the human thief's hair. He could be stashing so much loot in there.

Is there only one level right now? After my first theft I ended up with 200 nuts which seemed to cue the end & a "retry level" overlay (I liked that I could ignore it and keep playing though).

Will there be more comedic cutscene stuff between the other levels?

It looks like the other comments have already covered what I was going to say.

Looking forward to seeing the switch to a typing minigame!

The setting is amusing.

I like the quick-time like interactions for stealing, and that it's fairly predictable. Depending on whether you intend on making longer sequences, a progress indicator might be helpful. It feels a little strange that I can still move the squirrel around after interacting with people - being able to move around during the sequences also contributed to the initial confusion that I had "failed" the stealing sequences. Were there plans that the player had to do extra platforming whilst stealing?

The stealing controls were initially confusing, as the sound effect and the red tint makes it seem like I was taking damage when I was interacting with people. I then thought there was a stealth aspect to the game, but I later realised that this is the prompt for entering the stealing-mode. Changing the tint to a more neutral colour and changing the sound effect may help prevent this type of confusion.

I like the design of the squirrel. The controls for moving and jumping felt good, so it felt like a shame that there wasn't much platforming involved. Are there plans for more areas or environmental obstacles and hazards?

Overall, I like the controls and the look of the game, and feel that the stealing sequences can be polished further.

Funny idea, I am terrible at it though, lol. My brain really struggled with treating the WASD keys as letters instead of directions XD

We've changed it up now to be an actual typing game, so it will come up with words to type instead of single letters (thanks to an awesome suggestion in the comments), so hopefully it makes a bit more sense now. Thanks for playing!

I really like your opening cut scene. It really set up what you need to do. I wish it was a bit more responsive or forgiving between when you start to steal and when you get prompted to type. Before I figured out that I needed to hit steal and then pressing buttons I would hit steal and then keep moving to get out of damage and miss the letters to type because I was trying to run away. Is there health in the game because the red vignette read that I'm taking damage to me and there doesn't seem to be a way to steal without taking damage?

Hey - nope there is no damage being taken, that overlay was just to show that the gameplay had changed, but I see your point, it does absolutely look like you're changing damage! We need to change it to something far less aggressive haha.

Thanks for playing!

A little hard to figure out what to do at first but after getting the mechanics down it's interesting and fun arcade-like gameplay, good potential here!

We definitely need to invest more in showing the player what to do! Thanks for playing :)

I think there's a lot of potential here! I like the aesthetic and music! And it's an interesting concept. I think it would be helpful when you've activated stealing from someone to change the screen from the main gameplay screen to maybe a small animated cutscene of the squirrel looking like it's in their pocket or something, that way you're not still moving while hitting the keys and it's very clear that the mechanics have shifted.

I noticed in your design doc that your target audience is ages 10+, so it occurred to me that this format would make for a good typing game as well. Like maybe when you're stealing something a word appears on the screen for what's being stolen and you have to type out the object name in time to successfully steal it.

Just a few ideas I had while playing, I can't wait to see it again next week! Good luck!

Developer

Hey, Thanks Flaming Monkey.

We liked the typing idea so much that we changed it to that! The game feels much more fun now. Thanks for that!

I've tried to enhance the idea that the gameplay has shifted by moving the camera in more, and disabling the characters movement. It seems to somewhat work for now.

Wow! That's awesome! I'm glad I could help out!
