Another cool game jam entry by Bromelee πŸ˜Š!

GAMEPLAY
It was very fun to fly with such a wide variety of machines and animal πŸ˜‰. Every instance with a different landscape, objects and music. Flying itself had a learning curve. First few minutes a crashed a lo, but after a while it went ok. The exploration mode is fun addition to just fly around and wonder the world and check all the different buildings etc. Useful that you put that in the game. I read you had thought about a racing game. Think that would have been a neat update for this game. Or some enemies that try to stop you. That would add a more competitive element to it. But I had a lot of fun flying around and finding all the rings and gaze at the wonders in every reality. PS: the UFO was my favorite 😊!

GRAPHICS/ART
Great 3D graphics. The environment was top and also the different characters you fly were fun and diverse. Did had some popup and lag sometimes. It is difficult to tune performance in a 1 week jam. But it was small and did not affect the gameplay fortunately.  Nice wing effect. With a weapon/race update or competitive update you could add some more effects for some polish. The menu looked also very good. Nice effects there and also nice music

AUDIO
As always the music was top again. Nice that every character/reality had it's own audio track. That made every reality extra different. And the SFX were also available where needed.

THEME
Alternate reality is checked for sure. The Time is Power is somewhat less present, but both checked.

Overall it was a fun to play and listen to the music. Nice entry for the Jam. Looking forward to your next project. Keep up this good work!πŸ’ͺ

So I first want to congratulate you! It's really cool that you could pack so many things into a game made on a week. I really liked the "glitching" effects, music, and aesthetics for the menu. The logo and menu video were really cool, were they done from scratch?

Now I will give you some of my critiques. Please don't get discouraged, I know you worked super hard on this. That's why I'm trying to be honest on my experience to give you the best feedback possible, and aid in your improvement and game-development journey! 😁

I'd say that if I had to give you a single design advice, based in playing the exploration mode and watching GoldenDonkeyProductions' gameplay video, it would be: minimize the scope, maximize the focus. What do I mean by that? Well, while it's okay to try to push yourself, you want to make your effort as efficient and impactful as possible. Personally I think that, instead of adding so many alternate realities and vehicles, that don't have that much gameplay difference between them, you should've made less but with more impact!

For example, you could've kept the basic plane, the dragon, and the futuristic one, and add different abilities for each! I'd also say that the different realities could've have better looking environments if you made the space more compact! The way that it is now, it feels a bit empty, and players probably didn't see all the cool assets. (the futuristic flying cities were super cool!) If the space was smaller rather than larger, everything would be denser, and I'd say even more fun!

The other issue that I see with the game is the performance. I want to be clear that my PC doesn't have a good graphics card, so I got a few issues because of that. My FPS was between 10-15 most of the time. The menu lagged a bit and had some stutters, tho after waiting about 3 seconds the main menu animation/video started playing correctly. I also couldn't load the survival mode, the game froze on the loading screen.

I have a few tips for remediating these kind of performance issues! First, you should try and make the game performant "as a baseline." You can do that by using many techinques, but the key is to learn to use the Unity Profiler, (maybe this video could be useful to learn a bit a about that) to know what's even causing performance issues, as well as trying to playtest on devices with low specs. (asking a friend to playtest early is really good in general, but can be specially useful for this!)

Secondly, in 3D games specifically, the graphics are usually the most taxing, so you can add settings on your menu to lower the graphical settings. The most essential, in this order, are being able to: change resolutions, exit fullscreen, change graphics levels, and disable VFX (post-processing, particles, etc.). (I think this video illustrates what I'm talking about) This will make it possible to run 3D games on almost every device, (be it without as much quality) because in case the default is not running properly, the user can lower the settings until it does.

Anyway, I think this is comment is waaay to long, but I hope is useful! (Btw, I don't know what's your native language, but mine is spanish. If your's is too, then if there's something you don't understand I have no problem in telling it to you in EspaΓ±ol πŸ˜‰)

Wow, i really apreciate the long comment, yes i should create the options so users can change the graphics XD

To be honest i dont know how to code those settings menu, and that video will be really helpfull, i try to reduce manually many things XD

Anyways, really thanks for playing it and really, i gonna take note from this comment to update the game and off course solve some issues and get a better user experince x3

Muchisimas gracias y un saludo desde Colombia x3

Great job on the flight controls, it felt smooth.
The sound effects and music were fantastic together with the user interface which was very well done.

As feedback, I noticed that it is rare but when when changing realities, I would spawn on buildings and explode XD

Despite that, I had a great time playing it!

Developer(+1)

glad that you like it, well the game was made for that, when you change dont know whitch or where you go XD, thats why the respawn points are so far from the explotion area, to avoid some bugs i get XD

Anyways thanks so much for playing x3 i will try to note those feedback and implement some updates in the future.

Really awesome take on the them! I am a sucker for a good flying simulator :) Stunning graphics and really nice menus too boot, not to mention the audio was fantastic! The idea of a flying simulator this theme is absolutely genius too, would never have thought of that!

Some quick feedback I found while playing:

  • Firstly the game seemed to only want to launch on my 3rd monitor, could be why some people were having problems running it? That and a .zip is probably more suitable for sharing a game than a .rar just as quite a few people probably don't know how to uncompress .rars
  • The controls felt a bit quick to me on the faster planes, often making me lose control
  • I'm not personally a fan of controlling a plane with both the mouse and WSAD together, I normally like 1 or the other, so a setting for that would be awesome!
  • A settings menu just to do volume and bits can go along way as well!
  • I think the pink square that kept appearing was a wall? That could maybe have been more obvious but I'm not sure how!

Apart from that, amazing game! As of writing this I'm you're only rating so hopefully you'll get a few more coming in with time, the game definitely deserves it and I think it's only really let down by possibly that 3rd monitor issue unfortunately (if that is the reason it's not running for some that is)!

I've recorded the game play in a quick video in case you want to check it out, I know I often find it helpful to watch other people play my games after release!

Wow really thanks, to be honest was really hard complete the game, this was the third project created XD, yes the controls can have an update, focus much in the creation of the 7 posible realities XD

I dont know why the graphics problem i should test it more, and yeah maybe i should change the .rar i use it cause i can compress much more the files X3

The controls al principally with the mouse, you can play only with mouse if you want, the WASD are for try some acrobats or to avoid thins, but yeah, maybe i should do some updates too for the controls

Really thanks for that comment and your recomendations, i really take note on that and will try to aplied to the game, now with time pressure XD

And thanks for the vid, to see the test x3

For a third project this is insanely impressive, nicely done!

The game was definitely really fun, and if I wasn't busy testing everyone else's games, I'd be pretty tempted to try and beat my highscore of 3 XD

Hi. Game unzipped and opened fine for me, though I usually have no issues unzipping .rar files which does not seem to be true for everyone since I have seen this issue in other games. Might depend on your device and if you use 7zip. I'm on a PC and did use it.

I tried out the game in exploration mode and loved the visuals for the menu and various worlds.  The best worlds were the ones with tall structures to inspect. The more empty worlds felt more like you were in the middle of nowhere and not really going anywhere. Probably stands out a lot less in survival mode, which I am going to try later.

Developer

thanks, really happy you like it and yes try the survivor mode, skill and try to get the more rings you can x3

Just finished trying survival mode. Fun game and amazing amount of work you put into it with the fancy menu, loading screens and exploration mode and normal vs hard. Sometimes I had a little bit of a hard time controlling the vehicle, though that may be because I did not try to use the WASD keys much. Hope more people in the jam try it out.

unfortunatelly I cant opne the game :( a shame because it looks really cool from the screenshots

Developer

OMG really, damn i tested before upload it and works fine T-T, it stay in black or at least you can arrive to the menu???

HostSubmitted

I did a quick test and it started and I saw the main menu and could start the exploration for example.

Maybe it is because it is .rar file...??

HostSubmitted (3 edits)

Did you manage to extract the .rar file? Or was that the problem?
You can use the free 7-zip (https://www.7-zip.org/) if you do not have WinRar software.
It did start on my PC after extracting...

I hope the 7-zip tool is the solution and you can still play the game.
