Wow! What an immersive experience! I was worried I would actually have to translate morse code but I think you nailed accessibility vs obscurity here. Having all the audio controls be diegetic was instantly immersive, and I found myself stressing when a signal came after the expected time.... had my previous mistakes cost the lives of the operatives abroad? Probably the most complex emotional response I've got from a game in this jam thus far, so kudos!!!! If I was asked for constructive criticism, I'd say the frequency knob was a little finicky to control (especially when the mouse crossed the center of the button), but that didn't bother me terribly. I unfortunately got stuck at the end of day 1 when I couldn't find my cursor to click "go to work" but I really enjoyed the headlines and seeing the consequences of my correct and incorrect calls. Hoping to play again, get everything wrong, and see the city explode out the window or something as the culmination of my sabotage. Great concept (I was hoping someone would make a radio tower game) and execution, congrats!

Thank you very much for the detailed feedback! Really appreciated :) - I'm very glad you enjoyed it. I think the feedback on the controls is a repeated thing people have brought up, so we'll definitely try and improve this for any future versions. Thanks!

Extremely neat play on a Papers, Please type concept. Perfectly fitting with the Tower theme, and all of the visuals and audio and great fits for the game's own theme. Scanning the frequency, catching the morse transmission, and trying to decipher them with the handbook is a very engaging little loop. Very cool!

Thanks for the review! Really glad you liked it :)

very fun concept. its a very relaxed game and i liked listening to radio music and missing the timeframes for "work" :D

Developer(+2)

The Ministry of Responsible Communication does not pay you to listen to music. You will be relocated for this.

I loved Papers Please, so naturally I loved the atmosphere of your game as well. The transmission being slightly garbled before you completely focus on it was a nice touch. The controls for the radio frequency were a little confusing, you click the knob, but than simply move left or right instead of rotating it like I expected. Great game!

Thanks for the feedback! Will definitely take it on board when adding to this game. Glad you enjoyed :)

Very interesting game! Its complexity is what makes it challenging, yet at the same time it suffers from it. More specifically, it just fails at a proper introduction to all the mechanics for the player. In addition, drip-feeding new mechanics, like as done in Papers Please (which I believe was heavy inspiration for this!) would help.

Either way, it was very fun, and honestly original. I enjoyed this a lot! I would very much love to see this become a much more refined game!

Thanks for commenting! Glad you enjoyed it, I think I'd like to develop it into a proper game and would definitely spend more time on drip-feeding mechanics as you say, as well as slightly changing the main focus of the game.

Amazing game! I really enjoyed the original concept, the graphics and audio fit really well:) However, I did not fully understand the structure the messages had to be in. A lot of them were longer than 4 components but still were considered friendly.

Developer

Thanks for the kind words! Sorry that the messages didn't seem to make sense, it may well be the procedural generation

Overall I really like this! The ambience is super cool and I love the layout of the game. I think the audio is very well done too. I ran into a bug on day 4 though. Polis was marked as enemy territory on the map but the game apparently though it was friendly. I lost points because I marked a supply drop as "enemy" and a bombing on Polis as "friendly". I swear I tried to find the last frequency for day 4 but it wasn't there.

The gameplay does get really repetitive especially as you're forced to wait the whole day for these radio transmissions. It would be cool to see another element of the game come in, or perhaps making the game shorter. I did really enjoy reading the newspaper articles, especially about the cabbages. lol

Developer

Thank you for the great feedback! Will have to investigate that bug, ideally wanted the map to be more dynamic based on the players actions but struggled with time. Also with the repetition I think if the radio component was a part of the game instead of the whole game it would be more engaging. Thanks for playing and glad you enjoyed it!

What a cool game, very unique, I was glad to see the handbook be accessible during game play, and I also appreciate the game decoding the morse for the player.

The only thing I would like to see changed is the ability to flip back to previous unsigned entries in the log book. I was hoping to be able to focus on catching the transmissions and then determining if they were friendly or not, but I guess that adds some time pressure to the player.

Developer

Thank you for the kind words! I think one idea I'd like to implement is that the transmissions notes are printed out and the player can move them around the desk, but struggled with time for this among other features - thanks for your feedback though :)

Cool game! I always find it fascinating when you people come up with game ideas that I would never come up with!

It was a bit hard to understand the rules of the game. I thought a 04 on enemy territory must be enemy trying to fool us, but I was incorrect there for instance.

The dead time between transmissions was a bit long. Not sure how to design around that dilemma though!

Not sure the on/off switch for the radio did any good. I missed a transmission because I thought the radio was on day2 :)

Nice looks and audio, and to me it was quite original. Well done!

Developer(+1)

Thank you for the kind words! Building the rules of the game to be fun enough, whilst not overly complicated, was tricky to balance around game jam timelines, and I definitely agree the dead time between transmissions could be refined! There were (as usual) a lot of ideas that couldn't be built in the time we had, but thanks for playing :)

There's a lot to like about this! The artwork is great and the radio is fun to play around with (I especially like the fact you can tune into radio stations and listen to music while you wait for a transmission). I also like how the territory map changes as the war progresses. The Papers, Please inspiration is clear and it's very well executed overall - definitely a game I'd like to come back to!

Developer

Thank you, I really appreciate this! Papers, Please was a massive inspiration for this but I think the danger of making a potentially menial-task-driven game for a game jam is something I only thought about afterwards.
