Nice chilling game ! Art is really cool, a bit difficult to plan where the firefly will go at first time but really nice entry though !

Developer

Awesome, glad you liked it. Thanks for playing.

Nice little arcade game, I always like games were you can figure out the mechanics on your own. One thing to say is that I never saw myself trying to collect orbs intentionally and I seemed to always collect enough on accident to keep the darkness at bay so I didn't feel like they added much to the game play. Other than that, I liked the gravity mechanics and the art was cute too! Good job!

Developer

Aww thanks for playing! Glad you had fun and enjoyed the mechanics after getting the hang of it. Yeah the darkness is totally bugged in this version unfortunately. We've fixed it up locally and will update once the jam is over.

It took a few tries to get the hang of it but it's so easy on the eyes and ears, I can't complain.  Solid entry!

Developer

Thanks so much!

Great work, super chill and fun!

Developer

Aww thanks Dragoooooon! 🥰

It took me a couple failed tries to get a grasp on the controls, but once I did I actually had a lot of fun with this! It reminded me of the kind of flash game that I could've burned hours and hours on back in the day, I can see the potential for simple, addictive gameplay here. The art and music are really nice, and the inclusion of a leaderboard helped bring a little bit of replayability as I wanted to see how high I could get on the high scores. Good use of the theme as well!

Aww thanks so much! We spent a lot of time on the movement on the game and changed it several times. We'd like to make it easier to get the hang of right away but I'm glad you didn't let the failed attempts stop you from trying and mastering it. With all the awesome feedback we're planning to work on it more after the jam and get it feeling really good. Your callback to old flash games hits me in the feels. haha thanks for playing!

Great game so far! I have never been great at these style of games, but It is super fun all the same, and I loved the artwork!

Pros:

  • Love the full-screen graphic smoothness
  • Movement seems fluid.
  • Love the leaderboard integration!

Critique:

  • Would like to see Pause something other than [ESC] for web based - Brings many browsers out of full screen.
  • Would like to see ability to lower/raise volume of music, instead of just muting - Loved the music, but would be a wonderful addition to have it more in the background
  • Would be nice to have some more sound effects, maybe when you pass a number of bobbers or something.
Developer(+1)

Thanks so much @quixjote and that's some great feedback. We really wanted to add some particle effects to things like the bobbers and maybe some bubbles on the fish but we ran out of time. Hope it was an enjoyable experience for you though. That leaderboard took some serious work and testing, but we're really glad it's been working without fail so far. Also, appreciate the love for the art. Luketns is the man!!!

Developer

Replay, oh yeah... and you can hit Enter to pause as well. Forgot to add that to the description.

I am excited for this because FIREFLY. I can see it works for other people, so does anyone have any hints on why I'm having trouble loading?

On chrome on macbook, I get this error, which I haven't gotten on a Godot game on itch before. On safari it loaded but the framerate was about 4 fps. I want to be this firefly!

Developer(+1)

Hey Snacks! So sorry about that. Realized after the submission that it doesn't run on Mac well. Turns out its a decision the Godot core team made when 4.3 came out and I wasn't aware of it. The issue is WebGL2 which Apple doesn't support. They have their own OpenGL implementation I believe. We'll put out a native build as soon as we can! Thanks for the heads up and sorry you're having trouble.

Thank you for solving this mystery! I had no idea Godot 4 didn't support mac for web, I've never had an issue until this jam where people are using the lighting functions more heavily. Well that gives me some things to think about.

Developer(+1)

I just looked into this again and it turns out it's a bit harder to fix than I thought. However, the game should work fine in Safari! Try it and let me know if you have any issues. Thanks!

Submitted(+1)

Thanks for looking into it. After having problems with a couple other games, I posted about it and there's a little discussion going. I think we've figured out that it's a Chrome update issue, and not something you'll be able to fix for macOS users until Chrome fixes it (or unless you're willing to remove all shaders from your game, which is what I just did for an old game that was broken by this).

I haven't figured out why everything is broken in Safari, as that seems to be a separate issue. I don't know if it's a recent change, as I haven't used itch.io on Safari before now, when I started having issues with Chrome. My understanding is that Safari is less compatible in general. For your game, it runs but at an unplayable 4fps in Safari. Many others are entirely broken, which they may always have been due to the macOS WebGL2 incompatibilities.

It is often difficult to know whether something is a problem in our hands, or on the game engine to fix, or the browser, the operating system, the universe itself...

Developer(+1)

Ahh, sorry it's running so poorly for you. Thanks for trying anyway! I'll have a download available once the jam is over. :D

Graphific found a fix and I was able to play this game running it in the current chrome dev build! Which means a future chrome update should fix the issue for regular chrome users on mac.

I got a score of 200! Very lovely game with such nice movement, art, and sound. Took a few tries to understand the movement but once I did I got into a nice flow. Glad we all figured it out so that I could play :)

Liked the game with the simple yet hard to master control, and the scoreboard ads competition.

Congratulations on the submission!

Developer

What’s your highest score?! It’s been so fun to see the leaderboard update as more folks play. 🏆

Submitted(+1)

I think I've only made it to... *drum roll*  20 HAHA, I always ends up in the face of the ducks.

Developer

Oh no! haha Them dang ducks will get you every time

Submitted(+2)

Hey, I liked the game, it's simple but fits the jam theme very well 💡!

The table score at the end adds a lot of replayability to the game! Congrats on the submission!

Developer(+1)

Aww appreciate that! Implementing the leaderboard took quite a bit of work but was something we’ve been wanting to become familiar with for a while. Godot made it pretty painless overall!

Submitted(+3)

Beautiful game.. that I suck at! The art, sound, and overall vibe of the game is really cohesive and relaxing… even if I can’t make it very far.

Developer(+1)

Thanks so much for playing! We probably need to tweak the difficulty some more after the jam. That’s always a hard thing to get right with limited time. So glad you enjoyed the vibe, that was definitely a major goal for us.
