I am in love with the charming art and writing in this game, and what a great concept! I love the twist on the classic knight vs. dragon theme! I'm impressed with how much gameplay and polish you managed to work into this in just over a week. Fantastic job!

Wow, so fricking cute! I love the art and story. I played 3 times and only got the bad ending so I gave up, but I enjoyed trying to improve my game plan haha. The only issue I had is sometimes the text got cut off, but it was only with a couple of the messages I saw. Great work!!

I'm amazed at how professional this game came out. It only 9 days it looks like a game people definitely would pay to play. Great job!

This is such a charming game! The art is incredible.. I lost count of how many unique scenes there are, and the training mechanics and events are so varied! I seemed to have failed most of the attempts I made.. and my dragon was not up to the kings standards lol. fantastic work on this!

My dragon left me! :'(

Seriously good job accomplishing all of this in a short jam! The art and sound was great, and I think it nails the theme. One small suggestion:
- I found myself using spacebar to quickly move through the text and it took me awhile to realize I was also skipping the random choices during training.
- Maybe don't allow spacebar to progress at that point so the player notices there are options. Or make the options more apparent.

Either way, awesome job on the game!

This is amazing, can't believe you managed all that in 9 days! The art and audio are wonderful, I really love the UI. The general concept and its entire execution are super impressive, it's all really cohesive and charming.

Wow, this game was so polished!!! The art and audio was amazing, and having to overcome checks from other skills was really interesting, too. Good job!!

The idea is excellent and the loop is very effective!

My two dragons didn't pass the test, but I had fun taking care of them anyway!

This is an incredibly charming game! I love the art, and the little bits of story and lore presented in the random events was fun to read. Lately, I've been playing a lot of Cute Knight and Long Live the Queen, so this game was right up my alley in terms of gameplay. I had to replay a few times and take a lot of notes, but eventually my dragon was dubbed "Bestest Dragon in the Realm".

One small thing though that I think could be improved: I noticed that the text of some of the events are long enough to overflow the text box. As a result, the player has to scroll down to read the entire text. It would be better to avoid this and have each snippet of text be viewable in its entirety.

Thank you!! I actually played some of Long Live the Queen (prescribed by my co-developer Moka) in preparation for this, and it definitely influenced the design! So glad to hear your dragon made it through the trials!

You're absolutely right about the dialogue issue; we tried to break up all the dialogue before the submission but it sounds like we missed a few. Thank you for pointing that out!

Wonderful, wonderful game. The story and idea were so charming and relaxing. The art had me smiling and my heart melting the entire time. The music was thematic and looped well. The interface is very clean and all actions felt super clear and crisp.

Did the two of you have any inspirations for this? Did you have an idea you wanted to make something like this ahead of time, or was this idea unique for the jam? Did you use any tools to manage the branches, or was it all original code?

And did I detect a theme of animal welfare in the game? I got a big smile out of trying to make them a leafy burger and throwing back the fish!

Looking forward to going back and revisiting this after I've played and reviewed all the games! Are you all planning any more updates or does it feel complete?

Developer(+1)

Thank you so much! We've had a great time developing this game, and we're really glad you enjoyed it!

We came up with the idea pretty quickly when the theme was announced. We've worked together before so we played to our strengths; I'm very comfortable with drawing dragons, and Moka enjoys stat raisers, a genre that fits the theme well. It was a lot of fun to combine our art styles and to explore a genre of game we hadn't made before. We were inspired by games like Long Live the Queen and The Yawhg.

In terms of tools, we used Github for source control and Dialogic for supporting text; everything else was original code.

Animal wellfare wasn't something we intentionally included, but considering we both care about the topic, it makes sense that it shone through in our work! We're glad you enjoyed it!

As for continuing development: while there are definitely things we are itching to improve about the game, we both have other projects to return to, so we will likely be moving on. Overall we are satisfied with how it came out and how we scoped it for the jam!

Thank you for playing and for your interest!

Added both to my list. :) And I hadn't heard of Dialogic before the jam– looking forward to checking it out.

The game does feel complete, which is something else for a jam! Thanks for the thoughtful response, and congrats again on the game!

Definitely one of my favorite submissions this jam. Congrats on your fantastic work.

Thank you for the high praise! ^^

This was so cute! I love the art, and it was fun seeing how the dragon's training (or lack thereof) applied to the random challenges it faced. Excellent game!

Thank you so much!

Amazing game!
The art is so adorable and there's an insane amount of it, super impressive given the limited time of the jam!
The game plays flawlessly, although it does feel a bit hard to get a good ending but that's really the only problem I have with this game. Super happy to see a dragon training game, super cute and very fun, good job to the team!

Developer(+1)

Thank you so much! We really appreciate the kind words and the feedback!

Everything about this is awesome!

The concept reminds me of the Monster Rancher series games! The amount of art and lore on this is insane, and they are all so endearing! I love the visuals on this Definitely 5* all around! The UI is incredibly clean and readable. The adhoc events testing for stat checks all make logical sense, matching the stat the narrative hints towards.

Alas, I did not manage to train my dragon to be accepted by the king :(

I have nothing to add on how to improve this game. This has got to be one of my favourites entries this jam, and I hope it gets more attention! Well done to the team!!

Developer

Thank you for the high praise! We had a lot of fun making this game, so hearing that the effort paid off makes me really happy :> A huge huge thank you!

Looks really interesting. Good idea and the art style is pretty.

However, I cannot start the game. In the browser I get an empty window. In the Itch-app I get the error
"The following features required to run Godot projects on the Web are missing:
Cross Origin Isolation - Check web server configuration (send correct headers)
SharedArrayBuffer - Check web server configuration (send correct headers)"

I don't know if this is something on my machine or if there is some upload error.
It seems like some other people can play it so maybe it's on my end. Any ideas how to get it running?

***Edit*** Nevermind. It seems like that was a problem for all browser games in firefox. Switched to chrome and the game is running :)

Developer

Thank you for the kind words! And apologies about the firefox troubles; we've had mixed feedback on that as well. Both of us use firefox and it worked fine for us as well as a few other friends, but some people also have trouble... I don't usually make browser games so I need to look into things like this more.

Thank you again for playing!

What a great entry, especially for the first! Great artstyle, nice transitions. Well done on the objectives as well, it was clear how long the game was going to take and I got a good indication as to what was expected. Unfortunately my dragon did not behave as it should. :)

Developer

Thank you so much! Glad to hear that the objectives were clear, that was a big concern of ours. Apologies on the misbehaving dragon, but thank you so much for playing!

Incredible art!
