Great foundation to build out from! As others have pointed out, the mana seemed finite and its not clear how I'd clear the whole scenario with just punching. I'm sure you've got more you'd like to add here: turn tracker, enemy movement range previews, etc. that would improve QoL and just didn't fit into the limited time available for a jam and I can't really knock you for that, what you managed to get done in that time window is delightful. Congrats on your first GWJ!
Cool game! Very solidly built little tactics game in such a short time. I hit a bug towards the end where I had used Little Red and still had Stepmother usable, Stepmother died and then I was locked because Little Red still wasn’t selectable on my turn. Other than that, I’m very impressed with what you accomplished in a week - you should be proud!
Nice! Really solidly built tactics game. I did find that when everyone but the wolf died (I'm bad at tactics games) and I used the disguise ability, the enemies wouldn't take a turn and I was soft-locked. I assume they aren't finding a valid target so they aren't making a move. Also I couldn't figure out how to generate more mana, so once I was out I was stuck punching everything, not sure if that was intended or just a skill issue again on my part lol.
Love the music, graphics are nice, and the story idea is really neat. Good job!
Thanks for the comment.
Yeah the AI cant handle zero targets. There is a 15 second timer that should skip the AI turn when it breaks but i didn't have much time to test it.
I agree that there was to little mana and no way to recharge it. i think consumable mana potions would be a solution.
Love fighting that evil books. Good work!
Lots to love and plenty to improve here.
Nice graphics, concept and general game mechanics.
Controls were overly complicated, no idea why right mouse button needed here, left mouse could have worked just fine throughout I feel.
Music was a bit repetitive and incessant - maybe changing to reflect the current state of the game - battles could be intense but less intense when you are just moving about.
I was enjoying it quite a bit till I think I hit a bug. Both red and the wolf died, and it said AI turn, moved the camera to the top of the screen, and then nothing happened. There weren't any AI up there, and I couldn't get my turn back. Overall I thought this was a pretty good tactics game. I wished there was a way to regain mana, and similar to others have the camera move back to your players. Audio was pleasant to listen to while playing.
Thanks for the Feedback,
The AI will should automatically skip its turn after 15 Seconds. its failsafe if something breaks. I gues there could be cases were this wont work.
Anyway i would need to rewrite most of the code, to much technical debt. :(
Nice job, wolf is a bit op :D It took time for me to realize move camera with keys.
Please add resolution. It is way too big for my screen and it ruined all experiences.
Also, hotkeys for cancel/finish would be good to have.
Also, returning the camera to where it has been after end of enemy turn would also benefit the game.
Having default resolution so large and having no option to change it is just bad. Very. BAd.
As a big fan of the Final Fantasy Tactics series, I'm very happy that I stumbled upon this game. Heck, the name of this game is also "FFT"!
Only thing I'll mention is something other people mentioned; I wish that the camera moved back to my players after the enemy's turn.
Other than that, nicely done:)
Great strategy/tactics game.
The artwork is great as and the music has that Nintendo feel that fits right in. Controls were good once I realized they were on the bottom of the screen - had to scroll down to see them at first.
Only critiques are after the AI moves it would be nice to return the screen back you available characters and wish there was another battle :)
Thanks for your comment. I thought of that feature, but didn't dare to add it so close to the deadline.
From all the comments this is the most requested Feature and i now regret not adding it.
Great Music, (stops after certain time?), cool SFX
Really cool Party of Characters.
Good Skills of the different Characters. Especially the Wolf ability.
Would love to have a tiny amount of more HP. And little bit more MP too, otherwise the Mages get unuseful nearly immediatly.
Wolf should have little bit more HP and maybe little bit more DMG.
Would love to see a "Who is next" displayed at top. Something like in divinity2 or BG3. So that you can better make use of your turn and be more tactical. Also would love to see when i click on an enemy to see at least its moving range, maybe combined with attack range. To give me better options for positioning of my Party.
But i had definitly fun playing it to the end. Sadly lost the wolf and rumpelstilzchen i think, when the Last Book made its AOE Attack.
Everything fits together well. Could imagine playing this in the future if you improve it or add little bit more content.
Thanks for the extensive feedback.
I agree with your points. my biggest issue was the time constraint, alot of time was lost on debugging the ai. I had to feature freeze so i could ship the game in time
I "balanced" the battle so you would lose at least 1-2 units most of the time, so your experience was "as intended".
Stellar entry! Obviously the time constraints prevent most quality of life additions, and gamepad support but I really enjoyed it and loved the character skills. A real bullseye on hitting the nostalgia.
I like graphics and sounds, I am no so good in this type if games but was nice to try yours.. Good job..
I love tactics game and this was actually pretty fun, I like the polish on it really feels nice.
god I suck at tactics games but this was a great game. A really well made system for tactics battles and a good music loop to it.
Fun!!!
I'm really impressed by how polished the game is ! There is cool pixel art for characters and map, grid based startegy with visualisation of range, attacks, heals, magic and buff with cool visual effects and I encountered no bug. Really good job I had a lot of fun !
Thank You.
I had two people testing my game, with their help i could fix most of the bugs and typeos.
There a still some cases where the ai "freezes" that i could not fix in time, so i added an AiSkipTurnTimer to avoid a game breaking experience.
For the short time there was, I think the turn-based tactical system is well achieved.
Great work! :D
Not my favorite genre but its impressive how you finished in a limited amount of time with the complexity these games have, got demolished by the blue books but I guess its my fault as I skipped some turns accidentaly xD. Liked the skills form the charachters based on their respecive tales, pretty neat!
Thank you.
Yeah the Blue books are "boss" enemys. They should have been the brothers Grimm, but i could not finish the sprites.
Im always losing 1-2 of my Units to them too.
Very cool! Love Final Fantasy Tactics Advance so this was also really fun for me! Tactics games are super fun, and this is no different!
Im happy you liked it, its my one of my favorit genres.
