Ah! I wanted to play this ever since I saw you post the title screen in Discord a few days ago! I love the game. The jump felt a bit trouble at times, though. I understand why you made it the way you did (to no be just another platformer) but that was my least favorite part of the game. The graphics are simple and present. The audio complements the game very well. Good job! This is a solid entry!
Wow, this is such a great entry! It was fun and challenging, with cleverly designed levels and was an awesome experience. Bravo!
Super pretty game with cool mechanics, great job !
Hi sprout, glad you enjoyed it!
Incredible artwork and music! Mechanics and gameplay are also very impressive and the use of the sun wildcard was done very smoothly. Only suggestion would be to slightly decrease the timer on the sunlight charging (and maybe a very little bit on the jump). On the sunlight I always charged both uses and it ended up being something like 8 seconds of standing still. Maybe it could be incremental (2nd charge takes less time than the 1st one). Overall a very fun game, great job!
Hi sprout, nice seeing you here!
That’s a really good feedback, it should charge faster when there is no enemy around, other wise it just gonna waste players time. Thanks for playing and thanks for the feedback!
Loved it! Excellent artwork, fun animations, interesting and unique gameplay.
One flaw I found was that having the enemies not reset when you die can create some soft-lock situations. I got stuck in the 4th (i think) level, where my checkpoint had no sunlight, and there were 2 chainsaws on a platform above. If I died, sometimes they'd be stuck on top of each other and literally impossible to get past without dying again. Sometimes their patrol would have them stuck at the end of the platform too and I'd have to wait or lure them to get back to their original position. Since my death location creates a lot of randomness to the enemies, they no longer followed the intended level design you had, which felt kind of bad to get stuck with, since I had no way to restart with the correct setup after my first death.
The intended level design, waiting for the enemies and jumping over like a charging bull was really fun and satisfying to time it! I loved the sounds of the solar blast, and it was pretty satisfying to take out the enemies with such a powerful attack from an unassuming cute character.
The platforming was fun as well, especially when it got to the 1x1 precision platforming. Had a lot of fun up to the point I got really stuck ! Really nice work!
Hi fellow sprout, glad you made it!
I’m aware of the soft-locks, and I thought I got rid of them all. Enemies will usually go back to their original spot if they don’t see you for a few seconds. I will sure look into that.
I decided to not to respawn enemy to reduce difficulty, but I could have reposition them after death to prevent soft-lock, that’s a very good point! Definitely take that with me in my future games.
Thanks for playing!
This was pretty solid. The charge to jump idea was interesting and same with getting energy from the sunlight. I kind of wish there was something else you could do with the energy, or maybe that it also cost some energy to jump, or something like that. It was also hard to tell how the charging worked, I actually thought I had to be actively in the sunlight to attack.
It would have been nice for there to have been a particle effect or sound effect that made it a little more clear you were collecting energy. I figured it out eventually, though.
Nice job!
Hi sprout, you made it out!
That’s really good feedback, thanks for spending the time writing it! A lot of people have mention that the game needs give more feedback to player during charging, I wish I had more time to polish that.
Power ups… I kid you not I had a whole lists of power ups I wanted to do, turn into a sunflower and shoot laser beams, turn into a bigger plant that can punch people, close range energy blast, grow bigger leaves so you can glide… the list goes on. Sadly they didn’t make it into the game.
Thanks for playing!
That makes a lot of sense! I think you prioritized the right stuff, though. That said, if you end up working on this more in the future I think additional power ups would make for really compelling gameplay.
I like this style of painting so much! The setting of soaking up the sun and accumulating energy to attack is also great! Love it!
Hi sprout, sun bath is nice isn’t it. Thanks for playing!
A great fun concept with one minor flaw in the controls that lets the rest down. I found jumping to be rather hit or miss, or mostly miss in my case! The graphics were lovely tho!
Hi sprout,
Other people also have given feedback regarding jumping, I wished I had time to add a feedback loop to let player know how close they are to a jump. Thanks for playing!
Awesome game! The art was really great. Loved the sprout character and the little chainsaw guys. The environment was great. The sound and music were excellent. I found the game play difficult but I was able to get through to the end. Overall a wonderful entry. Congrats!
Hi fellow sprout, nice seeing you here!
I lowered the difficulty by not respawning enemies you killed, but looks like eventually you were able to brute forced it. Thanks for playing and thanks for the feedback!
This has such a nice vibe to it. I thought the in-game music was great, and then I heard the end-game music! Love it.
It's funny that the other plants would call the player character "sprout" :D
Really cool. Enjoyed this one. Thanks!
Hi sprout, you made it out!
Apparently all the sprouts called each other sprout, weird huh. I don't take full credits for the music, support the artists in the credit section if you are interested! Thanks for playing!
Hi, Sprout! A very well made relaxed platformer. I think powering up in the sun could be a bit faster, I didn't run into any moments of peril waiting for the two charge-ups so it was just a time delay.
Well done
Hi, sprout!
I think you are right! There are moments where it just pure waiting. Thanks for the feedback and thanks for playing!
Great mechanics. I liked having to slow down a bit to jump, time jumps, and gather sunlight. Nice change from fast-paced platformers.
It looks and sounds great too, but I kinda wish it was original art and audio for the jam.
Hi sprout, thanks for joining.
Since I've never used godot before this jam, so I spent a lot of time in learning. I wished I had more time to work on more sprites too, but sadly I didn't. My goal is to have original art in my next game jam. Now I see the benefits of teaming up, team work makes the dream work. Thanks for playing!
I love sprout. Just a little guy. Game great too i guess
Hi sprout, you made it out!
Nice platforming game! I've enjoyed the level design of some levels because they complement the mechanics very well. The only thing that felt slightly off was the timing of the jump, i think that it takes a tiny bit too much to fully charge. Apart from that the game was very good!
Hi sprout, good to see you here.
Thanks for the feedback! Here is the interesting thing, the formula I came up with was:
time it takes to jump - time it takes for enemy to reach you = range of 0.5 to 1 second (the shorter the harder)
If I adjust the time it takes to jump then I have to adjust the enemy range and the tiles design. I did had a feature on to-do list but didn't end up implementing it, it was a feedback loop for jumping, either a sound or load bar, so that player have a sense on how close to a charge jump.
Very cute game ! Nice aesthetic that is very immersive. I'm also glad to see a game with controller support, since I enjoy testing these games after a long week of coding on my keyboard, layed back, with a controller in my hands, and I just haven't seen much games that implement it (which is sad, since godot did a very good job of making it pretty simple to do once you get the hang of it).
Hi sprout, glad you enjoyed the game.
That is exactly why added controller support, I found controller more comfortable use for play test after long day of coding.
Hi sprout!
Really cute game and I expecially liked the artstyle. Good job!
Hi sprout, glad you made it out!
I played through 4 levels of this and was ready to keep going but I killed a lumberjack while he was standing in the sunlight and the game froze. Interesting jumping and charging mechanic, good levels and very nice graphics.
The music that started on level 3 sounded a bit out of tune…
Hi sprout, sorry that you didn't make it out.
Sorry for the bug, I blame that on my godot experience, it must have been some collision edge case that I didn't catch in my 50 times play tests. I thought the music change was a refresh to the game, looks like people have different taste lol. Thanks for the feedback, and most importantly thanks for playing!
Really pleasant art style and overall aesthetic. Love the music too. I'm tryna get like you
Hi sprout, thanks for playing
Really cute, loved it!
Hi sprout
So very endearing. I really enjoyed played this.
Hi sprout, I'm glad that you made it out!
