it's very nice 3d game, I like the idea of being earth protector. But I just wait too long for opportunity to safe the earth, and when steroid is actually spawned near earth, usually I am not fast enough to catch it

This was a really interesting idea! I would have loved to see some feedback movement in the hands when acting on the asteroids.

Not sure what OS you built on. I'm on Linux and had to turn on the game file's executable flag. That might be a Godot 4.x issue.

Developer

Thank you! I actually wanted to add some animations or "juice" for the hands but sadly didn't have time for that.

Oh wow thank god that even works I couldn't get that tested because I don't use Linux lol

I really liked the ambiance , something about how the light in the sun interacts with the earth, asteroids and specifically how it interacted with the hands gave me a....weird eeire feeling...I don't know how to describe it, plus the music helped too.

The game itself is cool, I like the concept although I would've liked to see through the comet I had picked up, because my first instinct was to throw it to other comets or the sun hahaha. I don't know if you have anything scripted to happen if 2 comets collide but I think would be cool, and maybe for the sun too.

Thanks a lot! Since I didn't have that complex of a game mechanic I tried to focus on the ambience the most and I'm glad that paid off (I also had a much bigger vision for the game but couldn't do all of it) There isn't anything scripted when they collide, the physics just does its thing, but there is an easter egg (or two) when you reach a high enough number of days ;)

I like the idea and throwing asteroids around is more fun than expected. I'm not sure if it's just me, but the gameplay feels a bit slow. The asteroids spawn very far away and are closing in not very fast. You either could play close to earth which makes it more likely to miss an asteroid or accidentally hit it yourself. Or from further away which makes it easy to find them and I easily reached > 50 days.

Maybe limiting the grab range and adding warning signal when asteroids come close to the earth. This could balance the two playstyles more. Otherwise it was a nice game. Good job!

Thanks a lot for your feedback! In hindsight I should've probably playtested more to perfect the gameplay loop but oh well, I spent way too much time making the actual game haha (and making the stars look pretty).

I didn't want to add a warning mechanic so as to always keep you on edge so I only included a highlight feature to keep that moment of "OH SHIT,  THAT ONE'S WAY TOO CLOSE".

Also I played your game and it was one of my favourites in the jam, great job on that!

P.S. There are some easter eggs when you reach higher numbers of days btw ;)

Great entry! Sometimes I picked up an asteroid and was too close to the Earth, oops! XD

I liked the atmosphere you built here, thank you for submitting

Developer

Thank you for playing! Yeah you gotta be careful there and attract the asteroid from another angle to avoid that haha

Nice game! I felt like Satoru Gojo. Good luck!

Developer

Thank you!

In this game, you spot, grab, and throw asteroids before they touch the Earth.

I made it to about 40 days before an asteroid would sneak by me and reach it. On the second try, I pulled an asteroid that was already too close, and that lost it for me.

The sun being the only source of light makes sense, it just takes getting used to.

It's a healthy first entry for a solo dev, and you'll get stronger as you continue to jam.

I like the game design and idea pretty much! Playing as god is always nice. The ambient with the universe and the earth looks very nice too. Two things I noticed for improvement. The hands are very big and not really doing anything except taking away view. sometimes I was pulling asteroids and the earth still got hit, but it was clearly outside. So maybe the collision shape needs to be smaller there. Well done!

Developer

Thank you! Yeah in hindsight the hands could be removed but I wanted to add them for immersion and that was how the idea was born anyways lol. The asteroid hitbox is a bit larger than the actual model but that was mainly to help with raycasting, although I could find another way to deal with that. Thank you for playing and the feedback!

I'm learning that collision shapes either need to be pixel-perfect, or they should favour the player. So enemy hitboxes (for determining when they deal damage) can be smaller than the model, and enemy hurt boxes (for them receiving hits) can be slightly bigger than the mesh.

I love space games, and I really enjoy the visual design. It's enjoyable to throw asteroids at other asteroids like in bowling. Good job :)

Developer

Thanks a lot! I'm glad you enjoyed it :)

Nice wholesome game. I enjoyed playing the role of protector. I liked the inherent problem of the earth blocking my visibility, so I had to be always orbiting, ever watchful. That feeling of vigilance was nicely complemented by the relatively slow initial gameplay... I didn't feel bored by the seemingly slow pace, because I had to stay on my toes, just in case.

Nice entry!

Developer

Thanks a lot for your comment! I'm really glad you didn't feel bored because that was my intitial fear haha. Also I'm not sure if you saw but there is a pause menu with a controls section that mentions you can press middle mouse button to show all the asteroids as well as the earth which makes it easier for you to spot everything. Thanks for playing :)

I love the original idea for the game and how the space looks, with lighting and beautiful starry sky.

I think gameplay suffers from your failure being sudden. You don't see the asteroid that's going to kill you. Maybe it would be more fun if it was easier to see all the asteroids in the sky but actually deflecting them would be more challenging and requiredcareful  resource management.

It's very easy to undestand how to play, the controls are intuitive and I didn't have any technical issues.

Great job! Good luck with your future projects!

Developer

Thanks a lot for your comment! I actually tried to tackle that issue by adding a highlight feature where you press the middle mouse button and it shows all the asteroids in red and the earth in blue so you can spot them easily, I think you may have missed that (it was under the pause menu). I did want to add more depth to the gameplay but unfortunately I didn't have time to fulfill the entire original scope of the game. Thank you, and good luck to you too :)

Oh, you're right, I missed it! I'm sorry. 🙃
