Game Description
The creators of R.I.P What You Sow (Godot Wild Jam #62) presents Hang In There, Baby. A point and click narrative adventure about missing cats, a nameless private agent with a past, an old timer detective who loves haikus and an evil pest-control corporation.

How does your game tie into the theme?
The mechanics and story of our game uses cats as the main theme from start to finish. From the art direction to the music to the writing. Cats are absolutely everywhere! The main mechanic is based on the concept of searching, finding and rescuing missing cats before it’s too late. A love letter to cats and detective flicks. You even use a mouse to control the game!

This is so fun. Reminds me of Papers Please.

Wow, this is the first point-and-click adventure I see in this jam. It’s a great game with a hardcore detective theme and charismatic art. The “meow-meow” part is super fun. Unfortunately, it did bug out on day 2 for me as I hurried to find another cat. Maybe a game setting with a time scale could help to feel less pressure in case if you just want to enjoy the story and care less for the score.

Developer

We definitely didn't have enough time in our hands to fix everything and properly balance the time constraints, I like the idea of a setting to choose the available time during the day, thank you for trying it out nonetheless!

This game is amazing! Atmosphere, theme, gameplay everything! My only complaint is that the days pass to damn fast, I was always on edge to save all cats from those damn PESTERS

Developer (1 edit)

We did want to give some sort of sense of urgency but we didn't have enough time to properly balance out how long one day should take hahah thanks for playing!

This one is a really strong contender!

When I first played through it, I got confused for a bit on the game loop, so I had to stop playing. This second time around, though, I got it done.

I don't really like reading, which does mean I might miss out on the rules of the game. Only reason I know that is because I read through on the second run.

Very well done, team!

Developer

Fair enough hahah happy to hear you gave it a second chance, thank you!

This was great! I loved the artwork, the sound effects and all the little details in both of them. The dialogue was well-written and engaging. There were at least a couple times when I wasn’t sure why the cat I chose wasn’t the right one, but it didn’t matter because it was a fun experience either way.

Developer

Thank you for trying it out, glad you enjoyed it!

Love the consistency of the art style and the detective game genre is spot on!

Tho my only concern was the transitions of the game, it felt a little slow for me. Cheers!

Developer

Thank u so much, we will take note of that for future improvements!

This is amazing! The art is gorgeous, the soundtrack bops, and the gameplay is simple, fun and engaging. Had a good laugh from the cat voice acting too.

Though, I'd like to say that I don't think I can play a game with this art-style for long. My eyes started getting a little tired after a while, having to focus on the screen looking at the 1-bit colors and dithering (or maybe that's just me being tired from a long day's of work). That doesn't take away from the fact that the art's bloody amazing though!

Well done! Wish I could make a game half as pretty as this!

Developer

Thank you so much for your words! I agree that the style can be a bit tiring to the eyes (we had to look at it for a whole week! ), but we liked the nostalgic feeling it gave and the simplicity considering the time. Your feedback means a lot to us, your game was a blast to play!

Love the game and especially the 1-bit art style, that really sells it.

Really really really well done everyone!

This reminds me of the papers, please game where you inspects suspects visually against their papers. I was so happy that we could take the posters with us to look for cats, I was worried at first that I might have to depend on my bad memory! Art is super and makes the game stands out a lot. You definitely nail the theme and the game feels very original with well written corny dialogs on top of it all.  The title screen is a little quiet, but the in game music is nice and I enjoyed all the different meows all the cats make.  Sometimes I wish I can read some the text better, but overall a very appealing and polish game. :)

Developer

Thank you for the kind words, all team members love the Papers, please game so it was deffinetly one of our biggest sources of inspiration for the inspection mechanic. About the text not being super readable, you´re right! we didn´t had time left to tweak those little details but we'll be taking them into consideration for future improvements.

YES! YEEEEES! THIS ART STYLE! THE WRITING! THE MISSING CAT INVESTIGATION! The cat who can't watch 3D movies was such a top tier hint and the poster designs were beautiful - this really blew me away; especially considering the time constraints. Speaking of which, the in-game time constraints may have been a little tight (because I'm an inept "rookie"), but I loved everything about this game otherwise - really great job.

Developer

Thank you so much, we're so glad you liked it! we worked really hard and tried to fit as much details as we could within the time constraints. We really appreciate the feedback c:

This was my favourite game in the jam by far, the hard work really paid off and the details didn't go unnoticed :) The beginning reminded me of Coffee Talk and the point and click aspect reminded me of Persona 3/Monkey Island - it was super original.

I love this so much. It's creative, it's hilarious, and it's stylish. Just add an end day early button. <3

Developer

Thank u for your suggestion! we should totally add an end day early button, we didnt have much time to test the duration of the day thoroughly, so that would be a super usefull upgrade! We're so glad u enjoyed nonetheless!!

I'm actually lost for words at how incredible this game is, and how this was even made in such little time. I was playing it with my friend and we were both in awe.

Firstly, art style - amazing. This clearly had a distinct artistic direction from the get-go. The story through the dialogue was great, and the idea behind finding the correct cats through clues in the posters was really inspiring! The posters themselves are really well-designed, and we even loved the small details like the Break screen with the cigarette smoke in the shape of a cat head. The clue regarding 3D movies was hilariously genius - just had to add that too.

The play on the theme was great along with the really cool laid-back music, the gameplay is original, and was just overall really fun and challenging to play with all these different clues to figure out within the time limit per day! Handling the posters and being able to move the cats to inspect them somewhat reminded me of Papers Please.

Seriously, well done to everyone involved in this. We would love to know the workflow that went behind this.
