Nice design and a good game atmosphere. There seems to be a lot of ambition in the game, and I imagine you'll continue with it. In any case, well done!

Fun game! I found kind of a funny bug. If you time the fast fall from using the RMB just at the right time, you can push the enemies all the way into the ground.

Also, you might find this add-on helpful! I noticed the character jitters a bit when moving. This is a pretty normal thing in Godot right now:

beautiful music and great concept. I enjoyed the game a lot!

The soundtrack was amazing! The game was a pretty complete game for being a jam game. Some parts could use some polishing, such as the game over screen. There could also be more feedback in other areas, such as enemy damage. The climbing aspect was very satisfying!

Great job!

Glad you liked it! I worked on functionality and game systems for 7/9 of the jam days, so by the time I got to the other components I was dry on time. The player feedback reviews were quite consistent, so I'll prioritize that next jam.

Great entry! Only feedback is maybe too many systems

Nice entry, but maybe too ambitious for a game jam, because having a class system, leveling system and game mode with training is cool, but the core mechanic is not polished enough. Some  things you can do to make it more clean :

  • A variable jump, more you press on the jump button,  higher your character get,  like on the Mario games or the vast majorities of plateformers
  • Feedbacks when you take a damage : screenshake, frame freezing, animation, sound
  • Feedback when you make a damage : blood, sound, ennemy, animations
  • Feedback when the ennemies are attacking, a change of colour on the sword has not so much impact, so we need an animation, or a sound

In overall, it's very impressive the quantity of things that are in this game, and it's quite good !  But maybe for the next game jam, make a more simple mechanic and polish it until it's  perfect.

These are exactly my thoughts as well: I made a cool game, but I didn't have a good way to present the game with player feedback and scoring. I do have a sound for enemies attacking. I made it relatively quiet though because it might get annoying. I was also thinking about adding the variable jump, but as you said I was being pretty ambitious working on the other systems. Will definitely try to focus it in a smaller mechanic for the next jams. Your feedback means a lot, thank you!

Cool game, well done!

Art style looks nice, there's a mix of pixel and vector art, but it fits nice  together. Very nice music, gives kind of hopeful vibe to want to keep playing, to overcome obstacles.

Very ambitious with leveling up system, I went with defensive build and tried running on the hats of enemies instead of fighting :) I didn't know at first you could attack bombs, that made it much easier to dodge when I realized that.

I encountered some bugs:

- on 2nd level platforms would disappear when you are standing on them (and a moment before, when you were jumping on top of them)

- on 3rd levels at some point enemies shot up into the air very fast, not sure where they landed :D

- also on level 3 when standing on vertically moving platform you couldn't jump when it moved, and you were hanging in the air when it was moving down (kind of lagging behind it)

Great entry overall and a unique platformer.

Cheers!

Thank you for playing! Actually, the first two "bugs" are intentional. You stepped on illusionist platforms that will dissappear when stepped on, but still allow you to stand on them, maybe i should've made that more clear. The enemies when killed, will rise to infinity, to portray ascension. I worked on trying to fix the third bug, but I couldn't figure out how.

Instead o settings `visible = false`, you can animate `modulate.a` from 1.0 to 0.0 in like 0.5 second. Then platform would disappear gradually and it would be obvious that it is intentional.

And I think the enemies that flew away were not killed, I was running past them and all 3 just flew into the air.

Developer (1 edit)

Yea, that would have definitely been a better way of doing it. I have it so that they fly up when their health is below or at 0, so maybe something like spikes, player hitbox, or a fall triggered them to lose their hp.

great music and 2d effects - good job!

Holy moly the music is incredible! I really like how much love you guys have put into this game. Much polish out there! Maybe the attacks could be a bit faster and smooth but that is the only issue I have. I like the parallax setup as well the story behind. I encountered some bugs where I got stuck or endless falling but the reset button helped and I was able to continue. Thanks for adding this little reset, makes a lot! As always I am also a big fan of upgrading. I think the balance between upgrades and increasing difficulty of enemies went quite good. Speaking of enemies, would like to have seen more animation / vfx on them. But these points are minor things. All in all good effort and great result! Great job to you all!

This means a lot to me, and I could probably say the same for my team as well. I felt like there was still so much more I could do, and this might be the game where I do some post jam work to make it even better. Thank you for playing!
