Very nice color palette, great mechanic Ideas. I just found the super jump a little hard to pull off, but maybe its meant to be that way. I really loved the dialog between the characters, that was the highlight for me

Wow! incredible game...

Love the graphics and really love the audio, that western music is great.

As mentioned by some others... you need to make the dialog be skippable, I must have gone through the last set of dialog 20 times... almost quite, in the end I somehow beat him before he went super nova got lucky I guess

One other small complaint is the WASD + space + mouse is a little tough on laptop not sure there is a better solution though,  especially with right click for second shot.

Great job guys keep it up

Thanks for your feedback! Very happy you liked the game. The dialog skipping was definitely a needed feature, especially in rooms you might have to repeat several times. Once the jam is fully over we plan to do an update with some polish including that feature.

Nice polished feel, impressive given the time available. Dialogue seems to be a bit drawn out, would have been nice to be able to skip the "typing" and get past it and back to the game quicker. Nice mechanic and although not particularly playable with keyboard, I'm sure it would be fun with a controller.

I really like the art style and the concept, it is really interesting. As well the level design is pretty interesting however it can get very difficult in some sections. As well some of the dialogue feels like it goes on for a while. Overall I really like it!

This game was so fun! Loved the art style and the humor. Soundtrack was also on point. Literally my one complain is the word wrapping in the dialog skipping lines after the word has already started typing. Change the autowrap mode to Word(smart) and that problem should go away.

Developer(+1)

Thanks for your feedback!  I also hate the word wrapping skipping like that. We actually have the Word (Smart) option turned on thinking it did the same thing but it still happens. I think that option is supposed to break a long word that doesn't fit on the line rather than let it get wider than the line if it has no spaces. However, I did just find the option that works.  There's a Visible Characters Behavior field - setting it to Characters After Shaping does the trick!

Ah yes, that's what I meant! Doh!

Hey, I'm the main artist/composer/writer and one of the coders for this game. Thanks so much for y'all's constructive feedback and kind words. This was a blast to work on and I'm glad it came out as well as it did. Last day was definitely a crunch :D

Unfortunately we ran into a GitHub issue during our last merge that corrupted a couple rooms and the main scene, so we had to revert to a previous commit in order to submit the game in time. We lost a lot of dialog and a train whistle pull cord, which I'm quite disappointed about. After we submitted, I spent another few hours redoing the changes (along with a couple other tweaks and polish) and putting them together in a fan edit version. If any of y'all are interested in playing that version (not for judging/rating purposes of course--not trying to cheat :-) ), feel free to PM me (not sure if that's possible on itch) or shoot me an email at jesrinofongorvad@gmail.com with subject "Ouroboros Fan Edit". I'd be happy to send you a link to grab the .exe.

Thanks everyone for playing!

Easily one of my favourite submissions. Was this a team effort or a solo one? Impressive either way!

(+1)

Thank you! Definitely not a solo endeavor.  Three of us did the bulk of the work with some support from a fourth. Check out the credits for more info. :)

Awesome little game! The story is very well-crafted and the dialogue gave me The Messenger vibes, which sold it for me! Controls are weird and the mixels rustled my jimmies, but I had fun, so it didn't matter. Great work, TH!

Thanks for the feedback! Glad you enjoyed, and agreed about the controls. The aiming especially feels a little wonky to me on controller. Only so much you can do in 9 days :)

Great animations. Had some difficulty with the keyboard, but I didn't really mind that much, considering the game was so fun. (Just clunky to hit space while moving and needing to use the mouse to fire.) A very solid submission!

Thanks for the feedback!

I enjoy the style of graphics and humor a lot. Interesting take on theme and wildcards.

Thanks so much

The dialog was so cute for this! I'm impressed with how much content you were able to pack into this game. The platforming itself was also interesting being able to use the salamanders as tools to solve situations. I did have a little bit of difficulty using Wallace correctly to do boost jumps, seemed very sensitive on timing, but still very fun when you hit it right. Great job!

Thank you for the feedback, and thanks for playing!

fun game! the dialogue added a lot to it. maybe could use a bit more polish, but I like it :)

I agree! Thank you so much :)

Very pretty game, love the color palette. I did find controlling the character a bit slidy and awkward. Also maybe this is more of a personal thing but there seems to be a high dialouge to gameplay ratio. I do like the usage of the wildcards

Thanks so much! I played Squire and absolutely loved the concept. Great job :)

Impressive scope for a jam game, different mechanics, nice platforming, fitting art and graphics, fun dialogues, the sound is great. I made it to the final Boss but Yee got stuck under a platform so I had to reset. The wagon before the final boss was pretty frustrating, I would decrease the difficulty a little in that bit (the final cannon before the exit was a bit too much IMO :) ), very nice game, nicely done!!

Thank you!

Great little game. Found it a bit difficult as I am bad at platforms and the jumping with the shot while fun I had a hard time getting the hang of. The music is good and the sound effects are great. The shot sound effect I enjoy. The humor is on point though I would have liked a way to skip through dialog no matter how good it is. The art style is really good too! Good job including sound and volume controls!. Great job all around!

Thanks for your feedback! Totally agree about the dialog. I definitely got annoyed having to go through dialog repeatedly when I was dying while testing the levels (especially the boss lol), but sadly we didn't get a chance to implement that. Thanks for playing :D

The web version may have problems with using a controller. If your controller triggers don't work you should disconnect the controller and use the mouse and keyboard. The desktop versions should be fine, however.
