Game Description
An infinite dungeon game where you progress through rooms and fight enemies to aim for a higher score, getting harder and harder as the game goes on. You are able to use these enemies in a sacrifice, however, in order to gain their ability.

How does your game tie into the theme?
The main gimmick is being able to do a ritual sacrifice on enemies in order to gain their ability.

Really good game! Great bonuses are the full interactive tutorial and the remappable controls!

Developer

Thank you! The tutorial and controls were pretty last minute additions, so I'm glad that it's gone so well with people

Submitted

Nice little game and you've done well to give a tutorial and settings section where you can remap the keys. That takes effort and is a nice touch. I appreciate that

Developer(+1)

Thank you! The settings and tutorial were last minute additions so I’m glad that everyone’s been liking it

I like it a lot, very original idea and fits well the theme,  one thing that maybe could be changed is making so that the bodies are destroyable only when the room is cleared, I had to fight in a weird way to avoid losing the power-up.

Developer

Thank you! I actually had the bodies be destroyable before room clear as a design choice, because it made you think a bit more. Not sure how well that went

Interesting game. Controls are a little wonky but not awful when you get used to it. Cool concept, great submission.

Developer

Thank you! Like I’ve mentioned a couple of times in previous replies, I had a button where you can slash in the direction you’re facing, but forgot to add it into the controls menu. Definitely regret that

Submitted

An interesting game. I can't tell what's going on with the upgrades though.

Developer

Thanks! I wanted to add a help menu that told you what enemies gave you which power ups, but I didn’t have time

Submitted

I liked it a lot! It's a really original concept and I would like to see more to that game!

The problem I had was that you can only push the enemies once they're dead - meaning if they are next to the wall you cannot move them out ever again.

Additionally I'd suggest adding the navigation nodes to the tilemap in order for enemies to just find the way to the player (can be done with a *soon deprecated* Navigation2D or Navigation2DServer)

Developer

Thank you! I didn’t end up having time for a pull mechanic, so unfortunately couldn’t fix the wall problem. I did try to make a navigation system, but even with tutorials I couldn’t figure it out, so I had to leave it

Really like it! Lots of enemies and combining skills idea is great. Love to be able to change the keys. Would love an audio slider, to control the volume of the music. Good job!!

Developer

Thank you! An audio slider was something that I forgot to add, but it definitely would have been a nice addition

Hey, I m not sure if it just happened to me but I couldn't play your game I get this. So sadly I couldn't play :(

Developer

Hello, I'm not quite sure why the game isn't working, as it seems to be working for most other people. The only thing I can think of is that it might be some browser issue, so maybe try chrome? I know for sure it'll work on the latest version of chrome. If it doesn't work on chrome then I'm sorry but I'm not sure how to fix that

Great unique concept ! Tutorial was a nice addition.

Controls are a bit finicky.

There is quite a lot of enemies and abilities for a game jam, good job !

Developer

Thank you! The tutorial was a last minute addition so I’m glad it worked out well. I’m not sure what you’re referring to with the controls, but if you’re talking about the 4 direction slash, I forgot to implement a slash in the direction you’re facing. That was my bad

Bit to hard for me, but great idea with the combining

Developer

Thank you! Combining is definitely my favorite part of the game, it adds a lot to the game

Love the idea! I had to play several times to get to try all of the unique abilities.   A couple of thoughts:

  • I might have liked to choose my power a little more, so maybe if a new power replaced the currently equipped power would be more fun? Otherwise you are kinda stuck with the first power you pick up until you see BOTH an enemy with a new power you want AND an old enemy to push into the removal tile
  • I'm not sure if the 4 inputs for attacking was a design decision or an implementation issue, but I think I would feel much more comfortable if the player rotated with the movement and always attacked where they were facing with one attack key like space bar or something. I'm used to games having like WASD movement, spacebar to attack and E and Q for abilities. I know you can change keybindings, but I think as a core mechanic the 4 separate keys for each direction attack was quite difficult for me for some reason!
  • Speaking of abilities I'm not 100% sure but I think in the tutorial it mentions the abilities and all about how to do the rituals to get them/remove them (so on theme I love it), but I'm not sure you actually ever say which keys to press to activate them by default, so that took me a sec.
  • Lastly, I wish the ghost ability let me move through walls like the ghosts!

Thank you! As for what you mentioned :

  • You can push enemies between rooms in order to help with that, but I guess it makes sense that it would be annoying to do so. Didn’t really cross my mind
  • There was originally a button to slash in the direction you’re looking, but I think I forgot to implement that into the controls menu. That’s my bad
  • Yea, the tutorial mentions the abilities but I forgot to put the keys. It does show in the settings menu, but I guess it didn’t really cross my mind that people might not notice it
  • I tried to do that, but I was having trouble with the player getting stuck in walls after the ability ran out, so I ended up leaving it out

Thanks for all the feedback though, very helpful!

Really fun game! Being able to change the keybindings is nice, I did notice that occasionally when I killed the final enemy of a room, the camera would jump to the left a bit. But it didn't consistently happen so I didn't notice if something particular was causing it

Developer(+1)

Thank you! I think the problem is that the camera will unlock on the left after all enemies are killed, and so it’ll move if it has the room to.

Submitted

Cool idea! I think the tutorial is a great addition and well done, maybe after the final door of the tutorial start the game instead of the main menu.

The combining of skills was a nice surprise.

Developer

Thank you! Combining skills is definitely my favorite part of the game. Being able to mix and match abilities really adds a new layer, in my opinion.

can change the controls, fantastic. 2 hearts is fine just dont get hit.

Developer (1 edit)

Thank you! Being able to change keybinds is definitely a nice part of the game.

Submitted

I definitely enjoyed the visuals and the music. However it seems that two "hearts" is not enough to play this game any longer than 4 or 5 stages. Maybe some healing option would help the balance. But anyway I really liked the atmosphere and use of jam theme!

Developer(+1)

Thank you! And about the hearts, I was wondering if some healing was necessary, but didn't end up having the time to implement anything like that.
