This was really fun and deserves way more than 5 ratings! Felt super juicy and satisfying to kill enemies, and I loved the particles. I also enjoyed the die mechanic, as it added some chaos that tied the game together nicely. One piece of feedback I have is I don't think you should be able to shoot over walls - it felt a little weird to me. Other than that, very nice job! Hoping this gets more ratings before time's up :)
Thanks for your feedback on the game! We decided to make enemies/Player shoot thru walls because it added some level of chaos to the game, but the real reason was bad enemy ai (no real pathfinding, just going straight to the Player) and because of bad ai sometimes when enemy would get stuck he was becoming useless and that way enemies still did something, even if stuck. But thats one thing more to improve in another game jam - quickly done enemy pathfinding
Oh dang this game feels really good to play! You deserve way more ratings than what you currently have.
Really good job on this. I love how weighty firing the magic shots feels and all the effects that are around. The dice mechanic of the changing weapons was cool too! Actually, our games are kinda similar in that they are both Mage Top-Down shooters with attacks that depend on dice rolls so it's nice seeing something similar to mine. The only thing I wasn't a crazy fan of was the stop hit which seemed to happen every time an enemy was hit. At the beginning I though something was wrong with either my pc or the game with stuttering. Maybe using it just when an enemy dies?
But ya overall this was really cool. You deserve more recognition for this. Very well done with the concept, art, and the feeling of the game!
Thanks for feedback! Yes game was freezing every time the enemy was hit, it was supposed to add juice to damaging enemies but i guess if there is too much of them on the screen having alot of game freezes might look odd, and changing it to only freeze when an enemy dies would be a better option.
Changing weapons when the dice was hit was a lot of fun. It added some nice chaos that enemies could hit it, while also giving opportunities for strategy by abusing it yourself.
The preassure plate really killed it for me though. Having to constantly guard the dice was really obnoxious, and it was annoying to bring it back too - especially since you have to do it every single time the dice gets hit, even once. Having to keep it still also disincentivizes using the dice, which was part of the game's charm to begin with.
Overall, the game looked and played nice though - the sounds when hitting enemies was especially satisfying.
