I like that you put everything in the description

Interesting to see two versions of Dicetris, and the different approaches they take. This one plays more like a topdown (rather than falling) version of Tetris, with the main mechanic still being clearing lines by filling them, while the other one made up its own mechanics and rules.

I think it works well; however, the dice roll feels more like something that's there to fit the theme as it's kind of a hindrance to the gameplay. It's kind of like if you were playing Tetris and after every block you had to roll to see which piece you'd get. I think having just a box with the next RNG-determined block would honestly serve the play better (but I guess it wouldn't fit the theme as much otherwise, so oh well).

Thank you a lot for the feedback! There are actually 3 Dicetrises, and each is original! Well take this one as Tetris you can play as boardgame ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I agree that the game would work just as well without dice, but I hope the "physical interaction" gives players something extra. The dices aren't actually complete RNG, the arrow controls the direction and force impulse of each dice.

There is a lot good in the game (overall it's great). One thing bothered me the most - the reroll sound. Other than that, it would be nice to see the result of my roll immediately.

Developer

Thank you for playing my game on the twitch, great stream actually, and for the feedback. I'm glad to hear that you like Dicetris.

I played this for about an hour.

That's what I call a review! :D :D :D

No, really, I am super glad you had a blast!

Cool game! The concept is very nice and I like that you can place the blocks anywhere in the scene. Maybe for future versions I would make the game go faster by making the dice roll in the background or something. Love the polished feel!

Developer

Thank you, from a design standpoint it would be probably better to roll the dice somewhere on the side, but I enjoyed toying with it way too much to hide it!

Thank you for your feedback. I'm glad you enjoyed the game!

Polished animations, and makes my OCD happy.  Appreciation for the dice unstick function and Linux.

Developer

I'm glad you enjoyed the game. I'm always here to keep your OCDs happy!

Great game! It's definitely more polished than mine. I really like the idea of actually physically rolling the dice to have an influence over the outcome. It gives the game a higher skill ceiling, and it feels more rewarding than just getting a random number.

Developer

Thank you! Don't worry my friend, your game is still lots of fun.  To have the act of rolling the dice feel good was definitely my goal. Let me tell you a secret, the biggest hassle is to create at least decent sound effects for it.

That's pretty fun, nice tetris combined with!

Great work! Fun idea and nice polish, I am curious how the numbers on the dice are used to generate the piece shapes, that wasn't fully intuitive to me so it was hard to know what combination I was looking for to fill in a certain gap (not that that would matter though, it's random regardless!)
Edit: Also, I very much appreciate the linux native build ;)

Thank you for playing! I'm so excited you liked it. At first I went with full random approach where number on dice roll were number of blocks. But the irregular shapes destroyed any attempts to balance the difficulty. So new approach was to keep roll = number of block but hard code the shapes. Mirrored (like 2-5, 5-2) roll also creates mirrored shape. Last change was to double rolls like 1-1. Those give you smaller pieces to fill the holes.

I like that, creative solution!

Nice game! Impressive that you got an online leaderboard in there.

Developer

Thank you! I'm so glad you like it. Regarding the Leaderboards check the Overwolf plugin for Godot. It's actually pretty straight forward to setup.

Very well polished game, lots of great feel on all the actions. Did have some performance problems which made the time limit hard but it was still fun to play :)

Thank you for playing, I'm glad you liked the game. I found the game unplayable on a 12-year-old laptop, a decent system is recommended.  I need to learn about optimization in 3D yet. On my PC game is running > 100 FPS in 1440p.

Yeah im running on a 3 year old laptop so maybe it just my computer then that it was a bit slow!

Developer

I think that computing RigidBody physics is really demanding. Maybe I should have lower physics FPS since the game is not a fast shooter but a casual puzzle. Well, that's why jams are great learning opportunities!

If its any help for your debugging, the part where you place the pieces and trying to rotate them was the part where it really started to struggle, as well as the rolling with click and drag
