The mechanic is brilliant! The gameplay, 3D art, music, SFX are awesome. If there are any suggestions, I would say maybe the time of enemy movement can be shorter, so the player doesn’t have to wait for a long time each round. Great job!!
Man, what a fun and creative game! I finished all the levels and spent a good amount of retries on the last one. Sadly it just froze after I beat it, I would've loved a little satisfying victory screen, but hey it's a game jam game so I can hardly fault you for that.
One thing I would've *really* liked to see is some sort of free form camera though, or a top-down view that I could toggle. Anything really that would allow me to get a nice overview of the entire playing field. As it stands I had to memorize the locations of some of the enemy pieces when the field was big enough that I couldn't see them.
Still though, I had a tremendous amount of fun. Really one of the standout games of the jam for me. Excellent presentation, engaging gameplay and a good challenge. Excellent job!!

I love the mechanic, and the incorporation of chess movement to make it obvious how the enemy's pieces moved. The included abilities were a good fit, and the AI was surprisingly good for a game jam.
I think the one thing I wished I had was a free-move camera to see where other pieces were on the board. It got tricky at times to remember where the offscreen pieces were, so I could avoid long line attacks.
Overall, though, fantastic job, I greatly enjoyed this!
Incredible concept, and I loved the fact that pieces moved like chess pieces(would have loved if the pawn to promote into a queen after reaching a wall). But turns take too long, and the dice sides really shouldn't be rng as it doesn't allow for strategies a lot of the time I was just relloling the dice to get ANY attack, so it made it really frustrating. Other than that great game! And the aesthetic is also amazing.
One of the more creative entries I've played. Liked the interpretation of the theme and found the game to be quite enjoyable overall.
Are the dice faces RNG? It's not something I could say for certain, but it sure seemed like it was the case. If so, then... why?
I ended up having a real hard time with this game. I love the concept, and I thought I'd really love the game, but there's just so much that makes it frustrating for me. Turns are so slow because the game has to pause after every move to show what all the enemy pieces are doing one at a time. And since they could move many more spaces at once than I could, I found myself quickly blocked off by knights unable to move in any way that allowed me to effectively attack. I ended up just giving up at the first level with three knights because I was tired of not getting anywhere and each attempt was taking so long because of how long each turn was.
Congrats on finishing your game!
I love the idea of a turn based tactical game where your actions change based on your previous choice. It's a cool little way to work a die from the theme into the genre. However, I found the gameplay to be a bit frustrating. The pawns were easy enough to predict, but the other pieces movement was just a little difficult to get a move lined up. I got stuck against the two knights because they kept moving to each side of meaning I could only move left or right and couldn't ever escape or win. Perhaps letting the player move twice in a turn? Something to give a little more control and let the player feel powerful, y'know?
Still, it's a very cool game. It looks nice, has an interesting theme. You did good. Keep making games!
Hi, thanks for your feedback!
Sorry you found it frustrating. We tried to solve the problem of getting 'stuck' by having the re-roll action and +3 moves action, as well as a quick restart button if needed. However, I can see how that might not entirely resolve frustration. We'll look into it! 👍
Really nice game, like the feel and movement of the dice. The polish is great! Really solid. It might be beneficial to make the sword a constant, as it can get really punishing without it. Yes it becomes more challenging and that is interesting but it probably doesn't outweigh how annoying it can be for the player.
Thanks for the suggestion! We will consider adding the sword as a constant along with the purple dice
This was awesome! Most creative game I think I've played so far! Idk if it's just me but there were some times that I legit could do nothing but die, but since the levels loaded fast it ws fine. Only got more problematic on the last level. Also I was hoping there to be a victory fanfare but it kinda just froze after I beat the last level, which Idk if it was intentional, just a time crunch or I got a bug but either was was good fun. Sad beating just the king didn't do anything lol.
Loved this! From the Jam submissions I've seen so far, this really stands out! I actually got hooked and replayed it several times. Graphics awesome. One suggestion-way to see where the chess pieces are after they have moved (sometimes off screen)
Thank you! We are working on a post game jam patch that will add lots of things like bug fixes, optimizations, new levels, new UI, chess piece scouting when its your turn and the ability to skip the animation of each chess piece moving.
This is a jem!
I like the art, music, idea, mechanics, feel, sfx!
I guess it gets frustrating on last 2 levels and feels like it depends on what moves u got from the start.
It is a very impresive piece for 48 hours.
This must be in top 100 at least!
Also it froze after killing the king. Is that a bug or you just didnt have time?
Hi, thanks so much!
We were rushing to add the last few levels. Yes, we couldn't get the game ending after you kill the king working in time. 😅
I like the style and concept! The zoom in and out was a bit much though and I felt dizzy after playing the first level for a while. The general Idea and style are great!
I really like the presentation and concept. My only gripe was that it felt like what you rolled mattered way more than any tactics you could employ. That's mostly a matter of tuning/balancing, but the core of this is interesting and well-executed.
This game truly moved me. I stopped drinking. I stopped snorting meth. I stopped beating my wife. I finally forgave myself for running over my children. Thank you so much.
This game is probably the most polished game I've played from the GMTK game jam. It's also one of the most creative and fun! I am actually surprised at how well done it is for a game jam game. Definitely my favorite so far.
WOW! Incredibly novel concept that is executed nigh perfectly. Love the graphics, sfx, and overall presentation. The gameplay feels fun, strategic, rewarding and juicy too. My only gripe is that the enemy moves take a while to go through, maybe implementing a click to skip function would make the game flow a bit better. Regardless, fantastic entry - one of my favorites so far! Super job!
Okay, this is one of those games I could just play for hours. Like, 10/10, please make this into a full game, thank you so much for making it!
Such a great game! I am really impressed by the amount of content you were able to include in the time contraints.
This is one of the most creative games i've seen so far. I think it'd benefit from the enemies moving faster and perhaps smaller maps. Nicely done.
