You nailed the fun of turn based combat. The risk factor was really well done. The sounds are good. The boss looks good. The game is really easy to understand. Everything in this game just feels right. The only thing I would wish for more is content itself, (and also maybe more animations for the attacks).  This is my favorite game in this jam so far.

Developer

The content is relatively bare-bones mainly because I do not excel at making RPGs. Actually, it's my first time!

Of all the 'roll the dice to attack' rpg-style games i've seen thus far, this one is easily the best

Developer

I'm flattered!

This was the most fun game I've played so far. The combat mechanics are well executed and the art is divine. Great job for a game that is made just under 48 hours <3

Developer

Aww, thanks!

Engaging combat, cool!

Developer

Thank you!

This is short but sweet. Though the monster could've had a health bar.

Developer

The monster's body is a dice, it represents his health. Look at the amount of dots!

Nice game! I've seen a few of these RPG fight games for this jam, but this is by far the prettiest looking one of them

Developer(+1)

Thank you!

It isn't often you come across a game as simple and self-explanatory as this. I was able to pick it up immediately and nothing was left misunderstood. The art is fantastic and the game has a nice feel to it. My one criticism is that there is no boss health bar, but maybe I just missed that. Overall I really enjoyed it. It was a bit short, but for a proof of concept jam game it does the job. You took a solid game mechanic and ran. Good job!

I am so sorry, I have no clue what happened there. I don't know if it happened on your end as well but it seems I accidentally posted the same comment three times? I've deleted them but hopefully you don't get a ton of emails from it.

Developer

It is alright

Developer

I'm glad you found my game intuitive! I was really worried I didn't have time to make a tutorial... The monster's body is a dice, it represents his health. Look at the amount of dots!

Developer

Thank you :D

Enjoyed everything about it - fantastic jam submission.

Great job! Super polished experience, your profile description does not lie ;)

Loved the re-rolling system, it ensured that the rng wasn't frustrating since you had more control over it whilst still letting you get excited over the rare occurrences (like getting enough yellow dots to perform a special attack).

The fact that you created this by yourself in only 48 hours is astonishing!

My only point of feedback would be that I found it difficult to know how close I was to defeating the boss, loved that you got hints for what the boss was about to do though :)

Developer(+1)

Thank you for your detailed review! The monster's body is a die, number of dots represent's its health. I really should've given him a proper healthbar though...

I can't believe I missed that... it is a really nice way to present the health and now that I replayed the game it is very clear when the boss looses health. Perhaps it would be a little clearer if the dice values utilized a different colour than the body though🤔

Developer

Fair point!

Funny enough my game is also called Dice Knight! :)

I enjoyed the simple mechanics, very easy to get into and there was some strategy involved due the reroll mechanic.

Very polished, well done!

Developer

Again, great minds think alike!

Very cool and polished proof of concept! Enjoyed it. :)

Would be great to see this have more content in the future!

Awesome game! Fun and cuts right to the chase.

Looks amazing, plays amazing, is amazing! This game was a fun time, I like that the dice act as currency -- I hadn't seen that before playing this game.

The enemy and UI are beautiful!

Submitted(+1)

My game has a very similar combat system haha, but with some bugs and a much worse presentation, congratulations!

Developer

Perhaps try working on it after the jam? I think it might be worth it!

Amazing job on the art, music and general polish!

However the idea doesn't seem to original, as its pretty to close to a classic yatzy game

And I think you would need some more info about the enemy to make more meaningful decisions

Developer

Thanks for feedback! I've never heard of yatzy though.

Well, interesting concept ^^

Pretty solid concept here. I feel like this would make up the battle mechanic for a full dice knight rpg.

Two minor improvements:

  • Make it more clear that dice can be selected to reroll individually
  • Make the bosses health more obvious

Other than those things, the rest of it was really great and very enjoyable. I would definitely play a full version of this if you made it!

Fabulous. I would love to play a full version of this, where you can customize your dice between fights to balance your potential to roll certain abilities
