How does your game fit the theme?
The idea was inspired by the "Water Cycle". The player has to "loop" through the liquid and gas phases of water to avoid certain obstacles and achieve game goals (save the forest from the fires!).

Really great work on the interactive tutorializing, it really set the tone for the game and made for a very approachable and fun endless-ish runner! This feels very full formed as an exploration of your core mechanics, and as an interpretation of looping, I found it especially novel to cycle through the states of matter as the game's primary system. Awesome stuff!
Thank you so much! This was my very first game so your comment means a lot to me! I especially tried to introduce the game mechanics and the story one by one to provide a smoother introduction, glad I was able to make it work! Thank you for playing my game π
VERY impressive work for your first game!
Thank you so much π
Very interesting, unique and smart use of the theme. I love the gameplay and also the visuals, gj :D
Thank you so much! Means a lot to me π
nice and simple game, with pleasant stylized graphics
the gameplay loop itself is pretty fun for a quick short game but longer games could probably do with some extra obstacles or features for more variety like an ice cube form that can slide around and break stuff.
though that might be just me because i managed to get to a 9.7k score before the level generator completely broke and made default blank platforms where i cant even fall in the water so i just let the scroll speed consume me.
overall, short and sweet!
p.s. among us water drop
Wow! I'm very impressed, even I didn't get 9.7k+, super progress! I will add you as the current highest score to the itch page π
You are spot on with the ice recommendation! The 3d design and game mechanic codes for the ice cube actually exists in the game files, but since this was my very first game and first jam, I believe I made some time management issues and didn't have the time to implement mechanics that would make the ice phase cool and enjoyable (like fallen down logs, that only ice could break by sliding etc.), so I decided to remove it for a smoother player experience.
Also yes, the water drop is kind of sus ;)
Thank you for playing my game and your great feedback, means a lot to me!
Extinguishing trees is super satysfying! I love the style and gameplay, it is definetly kind of hard for me though. Guess I just suck xD
Thank you so much, means a lot to me! Don't worry, there is no skill issue :) this was my very first game and from the feedback I have received so far it looks like I made (especially the end game) the difficulty too hard π I also tried to make putting out fires satisfying, I'm glad you liked it! Thanks for playing my game π
Enjoyed the game! Tried to get to 3k, but lost at 2.2k, it gets a bit hard at that point.
I'm super impressed! From my play testing, the time between 2.2k to 3k is way shorter than 0 to 2.2k, so you were very close, well done! I'm glad you enjoyed the game! This was my first game ever so I tried to make the game have a sort of difficulty curve but I may have made it too hard from the feedback I have received so far. Thanks for playing my game!
That's impressive for a first game! Generally, I make my game a bit easier than I intend to for game jams, since people will not take the time to play your game for long. And it would be sad if noone got to see the ending.
I hope to see you next GMTK jam and see how much you've improved
Thank you! Great suggestion, will definitely adjust my difficulty curves in the future for a more enjoyable experience. I hope to join next GMTK jam too, hopefully with more knowledge and experience! Learned a lot of new things in this jam for sure!
Really enjoyed it :)
Thank you π
Really liked the idea behind this, especially since there's been so many forest fires everywhere recently I feel like it's very topical. It feels very satisfying to put out the fires, especially with the sound and visual effects. It felt a bit fast for me but otherwise I had fun!
Thank you so much π! This was my first game ever so I experimented with particle systems and I especially wanted to make putting fires out satisfying, I'm glad I was able to!
Definitely one of the more unique games of the jam. I quite liked it, but It is kind of janky the way you transfer between cuboid and cloud without animation. Good first entry though!
Thank you! I tried to make the transition have some particle effects to simulate going up/down but I see your point, some more indicators like more prominent animations etc. would have made the transition feel smoother and more satisfying, thank you for your recommendation!
I like it when the story telling just gets weird, but you're kinda captivated by it. "I am water and I want to visit the forest" - okay, I'm IN! Nice game :)
Thank you! Glad you liked the water character! While I was developing the game, I started to care for the water character too :)
Wow! Such an unique idea!
I really like how you treated the theme!
The sound design and the narriative is soo good!
I really like the "Star Wars" scrolling text :P
Well done! :D
Thank you so much! This was my first ever game so I tried to work on my sound design and story telling skills for the jam, this means a lot to me π
Oh it is! Wow amazing job for your first game!
I'm really impressed! I am never able to finish a game :P
So good job actually making a fun and completed game!
Thanks a lot! My main goal with this jam was to make a sort of completed game, I'm glad I was able to achieve my goal! Learned tons of new things for sure π―
That's the sprit! Keep it up, good luck in the future! ;)
Got to around 1600 on the fourth try.
The overall game loop is nice, solid game. The difficulty feels a bit steep.
Some of the other issues that bothered me:
Congrats on making it through the jam!
Wow, super nice progress, I'm impressed (especially since as far as I could see in my play testing, 0-1600 took a lot more time than 1600-3000) congrats! Thank you for playing my game and your feedback π! I tried to make the game not too easy, but I may have made it a bit too difficult π ... Looking back now, I agree a shadow or some type of indicator right below the cloud would be more intuitive! I guess during development I got used to the "rain drop pattern" and couldn't spot the issue. Shows the importance of play testing! If I decide to polish the game a bit more after the jam, I will definitely fix the bug too, thank you for reporting it!
Very creative take, for your first jam with only 4 days it's a great entry!
My recommendation would be to have a little more variety in terms of gameplay for your next jam, it feels a bit repetitive to do the same things so adding new mechanics, abilities or even some obstacles other than the gaps would have been a nice addition. Finally, this is just my opinion but I would separate the water bar into blocks, each block meaning the amount of water drained when you press space, because right now sometimes I think I have enough water but I don't have it. Keep up the good work cause it's a great entry :)
Thank you so much for your comment and extensive constructive feedback, it means a lot to me π! I completely agree with you, in my next jam I will try to distribute more time towards a variety of different mechanics to keep the gameplay more interesting and fresh! Also the water bar being made up of blocks would have been way more intuitive, great suggestion (if I decide to polish the game a bit more after the jam, I will definitely implement this)! Thank you so much again for taking the time to playing my game and writing constructive feedback!
Very interesting idea and a unique take on the loop theme. This is very impressive for your first jam.
Thank you so much! Means a lot to me π
Nice idea with the two phases, would have been cool to see an ice-phase too ;)
Thank you so much! The code and design for the ice phase actually exists in the game files π Unfortunately since this was my first jam, I believe I made some time management issues and couldn't implement the mechanics that would make the ice phase interesting, so it would just be an extra phase with no meaning to the gameplay mechanic, therefore I decided to remove it to provide a cleaner experience. Props to your intuition though, spot on recommendation!
Also I just realised, cool pun :)
nice game its kind of challenging but its very good :3
Thank you so much βΊοΈ! This was my very first game so I tried to experiment with the difficulty curve and tried to make it intuitive to start playing but gets exponentially harder to master as you progress!
Haven't seen an endless runner yet. Well done
Thank you! Perhaps some developers may have dismissed the runner idea thinking it wasn't really a loop? In Water Hero, the loop part is the player "looping" through phases of water π§
Intresting take on the 'runner' genre, could be very addictive with some more polish. There was no clear repercussion after missing a burning tree though, that doesn't feel very satisfying.
Thank you for your valuable feedback! I completely agree with you, would have been more impactful. This was my very first game and game jam, so I believe I made some mistakes in time management and left too little time for polishing. I had some ideas for what to do if a burning tree was missed but didn't have the chance to add them in the end unfortunately. I hope at least putting out fires (especially multiple at once) was a bit more satisfying π
This definitely gets a full score for creativity and narrative!
Thank you so much!
pretty cool concept, the narrative was done really well!
Thank you! It was my first game and I thought the narrative would be the weakest part of the game, glad you liked it! π
Nice idea with the story of the raindrop, but gameplay and graphics are rather generic.
Thank you! This was my first game so I tried to go for a minimalist design (totally not because I don't know how to do 3D design yet π), I will try to improve upon graphic and game design for my future games for sure. Glad you liked the idea for the hero raindrop!
