How does your game fit the theme?
I made the main hallway into a circle :P

(Optional) Please credit all assets you've used
Oof, I didn't really get to the point of using assets.

However I was planning on using tiny-texture-pack: https://screamingbrainstudios.itch.io/tiny-texture-pack

This looks like it could have been a cool game. And building your own engine is impressive (I often fall into the trap of customizing and building from the ground up as well, though I always start with a basic framework).

Developer

Well thank you! I did start with a bit of a framework that I prepared ahead of the jam, but it mostly gave me access to WebGL, a minimal 2d rendering API on top of WebGL, and console.log. It’s also where I pulled the code for bundling it up into a standalone HTML file, though that’s more of a neat trick than anything at this point.

Don't sweat not getting things as far along as you hoped! It's all lessons learned when working on a jam game, and the fact that you can even code importers and an engine itself is a ton to be proud of. I hope you have more of your backend built at some point and join in again! Keep building whatever parts you enjoy the most.

It seemed to me like you were going for gameplay similar to that of the horror game Iron Lung (feel free to correct me if I'm wrong). Even though you overscoped and weren't able to implement what you wanted to, I think this was a great opportunity for you to get a basic understanding of how to turn your idea into a fully fledged game. Congrats on posting anything at all. A lot of people didn't make it there. Pride yourself on being someone who got something in!

Heh, yeah, I kept thinking that this would make sense as a horror game. However I generally don’t enjoy horror games myself, so I actually wanted to focus more on exploration and discovery. More like Tunic than Iron Lung I guess.

And thanks for the encouragement! It’s nice to hear from other people :)

Though yes, mechanically the game is much closer to Iron Lung

I'm also not a big fan of horror games haha. I think it'd be cool to see an Iron Lung inspired game that followed a totally different genre. I'd be curious to see what kind of puzzles you could introduce in this format. I'd be happy to talk it out and conceptualize with you or, if you'd like to keep it to yourself so I don't steal your idea, that's fine too haha.

I’m open to chatting about the ideas, and I don’t mind if someone else steals them and does something with them. I went ahead and wrote a blog post on some of the ideas I had.
