Lot of bugs when you take an asteroïd. Style is ok but the gameplay is not really interesting. Ennemies stays in the middle, we don't notice growth. Oh and UI's scales is out of screen.

But it was nice to play once.

Maybe it was too hard. The game really has potential but it needs juste some improvements. And the designs are really really cute.

The game physics seem to be a bit broken, as some of the meteors are unavoidable. But that didn't stop me from winning :)

It could be fun if the hippo's growth was more noticeable and things would bounce off him, breaking the cages with a few precise hits.

Fun, funny, cute, great job! I love the hippo and I love to make it win.

Hello, composer from the game "Crescendo" here! Very cute game, and I like that the animations manage to match the rhythm of the music! I also loved that there was a story attached to this and made me really want to free the baby hippos! I could definitely see a whole game around this concept with different levels and villains/bosses maybe. The ideas are honestly limitless when it comes to hippos in space and mad scientists haha. One idea though is that maybe there could be various amounts of skills and abilities that you learn, and I'm honestly thinking something like Mega Man does with their abilities.

Thank you, Glad you liked the game! The music was actually a last minute thing I made up with BeepBox on the last day so I’m relieved to hear it turned out well for you :) and yes we had more ideas as well that we wanted to implement like originally the hippo can attack the captors with her dash once she reaches a certain size (since originally we were gonna have a UI for the size)

Cute and funny take on the theme, loved when the asteroid hit me and send me fliying...felt very space-y

Developer

Thank you! The asteroids weren’t supposed to be bouncy but the script we prepared had them gathering in the middle (this is why the captors do that) so we made them bouncy as a quick workaround but I guess the asteroids being bouncy ended up having some fun results XD

The art and music was cute! Reminded me of Hungry Knight by Team Cherry

Totally not bias at all when I say fantastic choice with the theme. The hippos are adorable and it's really satisfying to free the little guys from cages. Some short fun lore or backstory at the beginning would have been cool, I wanna know more about these space hippos!

Developer(+1)

Thank you! Glad to see a Hippo enjoyer XD Yeah, short animations for the opening are also what I had in mind for the idea of this game since I did something like that before but hey, it’s a game jam so we didn’t have the time XD in the future perhaps?

Loved the pixel sprites! The hippo looks great!

Developer

Thanks, i’ve worked hard on them so glad it paid off!

Pretty cute little game of collecting and avoidance! Took me a sec to realize to press enter, but after that we were good to go. I really like the presentation and art style...looks crisp!

Developer(+1)

Yeah our prompts got cut off in the web screen since this is the first time we tried building through WebGL >_< anyways thanks, I appreciate your comment!

Cute animations!

I like the way that the hippo swims through space, adds a lot of character to the animation.

Nice clean & simple little game!

Some of the obstacles feel like they moved too fast to react to, and the green color from eating made the hippo look sick to me which was a bit confusing in terms of giving the player feedback.

Art was awesome!

Developer

Thanks, happy to hear that! Yeah we could’ve polished the obstacles a bit more and I was actually planning to change the green into a lighter shade but there were still lots to implement during that time so I never got back to it until the end of the jam >_<

The idea is really cool and but it was difficult to understand what was necessary to do in order to help the other hippos.

Developer(+1)

Yeah, that’s understandable and totally valid. I was planning to add maybe a small text prompt if the player dashes to the orb cage and their size is not sufficient so they’ll know they have to eat more :(

Submitted(+1)

The progression feels a bit slow tbh, cool idea though

A bit aimless at first, but once you realise you are a hungry hippo you devour all the food on the screen and smash those cages to save your babies.

like the concept unsure where the theme kicks in however, as the sprite only seemed to grow slightly in size

did like the scale of difficulty however the enemies only really seemed to huddle in the middle of the screen making them avoidable, only object that hit me was a while asteroid flying at three times the speed

Developer

Ah I see, originally the hippo could actually scale even more bigger but we had some problems with the camera and it just didn’t look right to us so we decided to scale his growth a bit down but I see your point though and yeah we needed more time to polish the enemy behaviour >_< the captors were meant to scout everywhere and not gather in the middle.

A fun little game, nice!

Cute hippo game.

Love the hippos, very cute. If I could give one piece of feedback it would be that it wasn't clear how the Hippo's scale changing had an impact on the game. Overall good submission and a fun game, well executed!

Clean execution. Cute!
