Congrats on submission! It's an interesting idea that can be expanded further. Right now the game is very simple however. If the whole idea is to expand the dungeon, you definitely should not place an incentive to never leave starting area with firerate bonus, you should instead place incentives to explore new areas and go deep into scaling dungeon. Visuals are nice and simple, I liked that. I hope you continue to improve and make make more awesome games in the future, good luck!

Thanks for playing and giving feedback! I'll surely try to encourage the player to move and explore. Good to you too!

5/5 experience

My game is just 1/5 :(

Developer

Thanks for playing and giving feedback! Great that this made you happy. I'm sure any game is 5 / 5 in some point of view!

Alright game, a bit too easy and doesnt really fit the theme that well if we are being honest, the music doesnt loop.

Developer(+1)

Thanks for feedback! Yeah I agree that it is really unbalanced even for a jam game. ut I kinda think the point that map gets bigger is related to the theme. I haven't played for that long, but I'm pretty sure the music does loop, I'll check it out, thanks for informing me! I'll try to improve it to make it a nice enjoyable game.

Fun game! a little easy since I think the goto strategy is just walking into ghosts while shooting - because they deal half the damage the health souls give - I also found no reason to leave the 2x fire rate area and moving the mouse around. The amount of ghosts never really bothered me until later waves especially if u let them all come to u in a line. The groundwork is there tho for an interesting game provided there's encouragement to explore (for instance enemies get harder so u need to go to other rooms to get more powerups) and balancing the difficulty! Good game overall!

Developer(+1)

Thanks a lot for your feedback! Nice thing you pointed out there, the souls were added at the end, I didn't notice they heal too much until now. Indeed double fire rate zone and simple enemy AI made the game too easy and repetitive. To improve this, I'm planning to do one or more of these:

  • Add more enemies with more complex AI
  • Add more zones which will make progressing easier and possible (some are heavily needed)
  • Implement some sort of move to not die mechanic (not moving deals damage)
  • Time limited prizes for exploration and movement (Some sort of damage bonus, speed bonus, temp prize crates)
  • Your idea modified, Each situation or enemy  needs a specific power-up, so you need to move

Thanks again for playing the game and giving feedback! Things will improve in a post-jam version.

I wish there was more than one upgrade (there might be more I missed because wave 11 was really hard), but good job!

Developer

Thanks a lot for playing and giving feedback. I'll add some of those in a post-jam version.

Great game! but i have a little feedback:

what does the 2x firerate mean? does stepping on it increase the firerate or am i supposed to do smth else?

and also the enemies get a tad bit repetitive, so i'd recommend adding more variety. maybe enemies that move faster but are weaker, or vice versa. unless there are other monster and i just didnt get far enough (wave 10)

if there are more, then i'd recommend introducing some of the a little early on. but apart from that this was very cool! (also maybe some rooms could have traps that can hurt the player and the enemies!)

Developer

Thanks a lot for your feedback! Stepping on double firerate doubles your firerate. Yeah I agree that I failed to make more enemies. The traps are a really good idea. I was also thinking of something like poisoned rooms. Thanks for playing!

Hehe :) Beat me, if you can (Really nice game dude)

(i don't know why my image don't want to show up... But i did wave 20...)

The game is good but i found a way to "break" it by staying in a corner with 2X arrow and when i needed health, i moved forward getting all the souls i left. Maybe make disapear the souls in 10 sec idk and putting different enemy types could be cool ! GG

Developer(+1)

Thanks a lot for your feedback! You did a really nice job surviving that much. I'll do my best to make the game more balanced and enjoyable in a post jam version. And yeah I'm also for new enemy types!

Cool game!

Developer(+1)

Thanks for checking it out! My personal is wave 14.

Interesting game! If you plan on expanding on this game I suggest maybe moving the 2x fire rate zone around so you are forced to explore. Currently there is very little incentive to witness the "scaling" dungeon. Other than that, great job and best of luck! :)

Developer

Thanks for your feedback! Yeah the firerate x 2 zone was a mistake without othee things that were going to be included like other zones and sould special powers. I'm thinking of giving some prize or bonus or any kind of positive feedback when you explore a new zone

I like this game, the map's a little small tho. I think a map generation would help.

Developer

Hmm, maybe some bug is happening, the map expands as you kill enemies.

Submitted

really? I'm sorry if my suggestion didn't help.

Developer (1 edit)

Yeah it expands, but you don't need to be sorry. If there is bug happening, then that's my fault. Can you send a video please?

Submitted

Ohhh I'm dumb. The map does expand to the down-right every wave, it looks the same so I thought it stopped expanding at some point.

Developer

Oh, so that's what's happening. To implement it faster I had to store the rooms as two arrays, so the map expands only to right and bottom. I'll surely fix that in a post-jam version. So again that is my fault in design!

Submitted(+1)

Liked the level expansion on runtime. No Idea how its done but seems cool! Cool little game :)

Developer

I'm happy that you like that! Its done with some simple geometery and tilemap modification. Thanks a lot!

Submitted

Good game, especially love the music, good job!

Developer

Thanks, that's a nice thing to hear when there are many missing stuff. I used free sound assets lol. It fits really good to the theme

The level expansion mechanic is a cool idea, though it would help if there was an incentive to venture in the new areas, I played 2 runs and got to wave 14 on the second, I found myself either abusing the x2 fire rate or staying in the corner as that does the job really well.

Good idea, could become something more interesting if fleshed out further, good job!

Developer(+1)

Thanks a lot! I understand. There were many things that I wanted to implement and I'll surely improve it to bring some nice joy!

Submitted

Nice level expansion mechanic! I would love a bit more challenge though as I quite quickly figured out the optimal strategy of staying in the corner and holding LMB , ghost just can't do anything. Would be cool if there were mechanics motivating the player to move around more and use level design to their advantage! But great job keep it up!

Developer

Thanks fpr your feedback! I believe a hard game is better than a easy one but Ifailed to add more challange and encourage the player to explore. I hope that new enemy types, upgrads, generated crate rooms, loots and... add some cooler aspects to the game. Thanks for your helpful feedback. I'll to improve it!

Cute art, I loved the little crab walk animation of the player sprite, that was so charming. The game became a bit repetitive pretty quickly, but the game can pretty easily be expanded upon by adding stuff like upgrades, different types of enemies, etc. Obviously one can only do so much in matter of 96 hrs, but you have made the basis for a fun game, as one of the other commenters also stated. And I think that's something you can be very proud of.

Developer(+1)

Thanks a lot for your feedback! The good point about these kind of games is that you can expand it very creatively. I agree that the game becomes repetitive, the only thing that I didn't want to. But I'm sure adding enemies, zones, soul powers, upgrades, loots and items will make it a really cool game! And I't try to do that. Thanks again for playing and giving feedback!

Submitted

Cool idea ! I think It needs to be more fully expanded upon; There's really not much in that dungeon to explore. Of course it's alot for a jam, but adding different weapons to use could be pretty interesting.

Developer

Thanks a lot for giving me feedback! I'lltry to get faster and implement more stuff and all things needed to make it fun. Thanks for the honest feedback. People here are really good and everyone is trying to help each other! New different weapons is a nice idea. Maybe you you loot them from enemies, buy them, craft them, gain them from zones, I'm thinking of prize crates. Thanks a lot for your helpful feedback!

Submitted

I like the idea of the expanding map but I didn't feel compelled to explore it. The 2x firerate was just too good! I think some kind of incentive to leave that zone would be helpful to really put the concept on display.

Well done though, the art is cute!

Developer

Thanks for your feedback! You're right and everybody is saying that. It was going to be removed, but I busy doing other things. And the corner trick would also replace that  because ghosts move in a line. Everything except the character was my art. 8 bit art is really nice becase even someone like me can make average art! Thank you so much for playing!

It's a nice concept. More upgrades like the double firerate zone would be nice. And also different enemy types? Like, forcing the player from one zone to another, depending on the enemy type.

Still quite impressed! Hope to see more of this :D

Developer

Thanks for your feedback! I was looking for good challange and your idea to force them go to a zone is really nice! Maybe something like cats and creepers? I'll surely find a way to add that. Thanks again! I'll improve it and I hope you like it even more that time!
