That was really clever! The mechanics are fun to use and utilized to their fullest extent; I was especially impressed by the level design. The art, setting, and concept are exceedingly charming!

Sometimes, the background can be a bit too similar to the foreground; background bricks in particular often look similar to foreground bricks. It's not similar enough to be impossible to distinguish, only similar enough to make it visually cluttered and harder on the eyes.

Spikes can be a little hard to see when zoomed out far.

All-in-all, great work! I am now afraid of the Shai Laddurd.

Haha love the cutscene and ladder throw mechanic! really fun idea!

Really cool idea! With some polish in especially the UI department, this could have some real potential. Nice work.

Very creative! Could easily see this becoming a full fledged game. Amazing job!

Wow, lots of content for a 96 hour jam! Love this, character art is very fun and the intro cutscene was also great

Very fun! Level design is very tight and points toward a "correct" solution, though the physics tools are flexible enough to lend themselves to free-form solutions that feel like you're "breaking" the game a bit. Level 9 was a particular highlight. Great art and quite polished too.

There's opportunity for some QoL improvements (e.g. throw trajectory could be displayed while you're holding down a key) but I'm aware it's a game jam. Already great work and a lot of enjoyable content for 96 hours.

Wow, I had a lot of fun with this! I gave up around level 12 or so because it was getting pretty hard, but the variety of physics puzzles and platforming challenges was really impressive so far (the level with increasingly higher bounces on the green ladder was a highlight). I really liked the idea of the different kinds of ladders, and my only complaint would be that the controls/handling felt like it could be tighter (I died several times because I expected to jump while running off an edge but didn't).

The intro cutscene was also awesome!

Thank you very much for your feedback!

Especially for letting us know which level it was that made you give up, and what it was that specifically killed you, that's invaluable info.  I do agree though, that level is just barely too long/unforgiving enough that failing near the end made me want to give up as well.
We'll make sure to add some coyote time when we continue development and polish the platforming mechanics, hopefully that and a few other adjustments will make the gamefeel a bit better. Probably tune the levels a bit as well to make them tighter, or a checkpoint system, something to make failure less frustrating.

My sister put a lot of work into the art, she'll be happy to hear you liked it.  If you'd like, you can skip ahead with the level select to the final level, which honestly I also think is a bit too unforgiving, but it was too late to change it before uploading. There's some more nice art at the end as a reward.  :p

Thanks again for your feedback!

i did not expect a cutscene at the start, but this game surprised me not only there but overall. Amazing experience, enjoyed all the levels and amazing concept. The balance of the levels was also very good (very unexpecting last level :p) and i would deffo play this if it were to end up being a full blown game. Amazing stuff :D

Thank you! A lot of the levels came from the guys who worked on the ladders, and our artist worked tirelessly throughout the jam and was a real champ. I've never typed "ladder" so many times in my life. The whole team had a lot of fun making this game, and are gratified that you find it fun!

That was great. The puzzles were pretty enjoyable but sometimes it felt like I had to be exactly precise or it wouldn't work. Maybe an indicator of where your throw will land would help?

Developer(+2)

Thank you! And thanks for the feedback. We wanted to polish the controls more, but ran out of time by the end of the jam.

Nice art.

Very nice! Had a lot of fun! Good ideas for designs and good commitment to the idea of ladders of different size, good job!

Developer(+2)

Thank you for the kind words! We had a lot of fun coming up with a lot of different ladders, but settled on these three as some of the more straight-forward fun ladders to play with.

Incredible! This game is very polished, fun, and all the art is amazing. The puzzles were also quite challenging, and the finale was fast-paced and fun.

Developer(+2)

Thanks! Our artist worked tirelessly over the Jam will be happy to hear you liked it!

Cute game! Ladder Lad as a concept rules. Good ideas, but the controls could use a little polish.

Developer(+2)

Thank you! We spent a lot of time on the controls but we definitely felt we could do more by the end of the jam.
