How does your game fit the theme?
Hindsight is about zooming out and finally having enough information to see the whole story. I see this as related to the idea of scaling up or scaling back.

All assets were made by me! Photographs are outtakes from other art projects made in the past. Voiceover was written and recorded during Jam. Sound effect made with my mouth (lol).

Woah, I really like this! I love multimedia artworks and interactive poetry, and this work seemed really personal while still maintaining a lighthearted tone. Something about the tone and playfully edited photography reminded me of the online web story "What Football Will Look Like In The Future" at least tangentially lol, it's a piece of fiction but I think you might enjoy the format!

Developer

ahhh thank you so much for the kind words! I will definitely check out the Web Story - it sounds right up my alley :)

What a unique take! Kept me interested the whole time playing through it.

Interesting concept, with some pretty unique vibes! Nice work!

Your voiceover was very clean and I enjoyed hearing it, even if it was a little frustrating trying to figure out where to click. Well done on submitting!

This is a super creative idea even though I'm super lost. The narration is amazing and I feel like there is a lot of lore and the art + pictures are well done. Great job :D (P.S. What does spacebar do?)

Developer (1 edit)

Thanks for playing! Spacebar doesn't do anything - why do you ask? haha
Edit: also if you're lost feel free to check the Playthrough video linked on the page to see where to go next :)

Whenever I press space it plays a sound. Sorry I meant that I was lost on the lore and story lol :

Developer

hahaha let's say it's for effect (it was an accident) :D

Developer

hey thanks for checking it out! :)

Omg, this was such a mind-bending trip! I loved the voice acting and the narrative, congrats on your first jam! Great job, you were very unique with this.

Developer

Thanks for the kind words and for playing! :)

Very stylish. These types of experiences are rare so I'm glad to see them represented in this jam. GG

Submitted(+1)

Very personal game with a lot of soul. Good job.

For whatever reason I could not get past the first image. I clicked everywhere. From the comments it sounds like there's some really cool photos throughout this experience. I love that you used your own personal photos to tell a story. Wish I could've played more!

Developer

Thanks for trying! I just added a full playthrough video (linked in the image sidebar and in the description) to the game's page if you're keen to see what to click and keep going on your own (or to just watch and listen to the experience). :D

Man!! Man oh man I'm a sucker for these types of games and you executed on it beautifully! Such a tidy presentation and just a unique take on a project for a game jam. Leaning into your strengths and scoping to what you can achieve in the time really worked out here!

This kind of reminds me of Kingdom Ka with the pace and tone of writing, as well as the photo usage! Also a bit of Superliminal with its occasional narration about perception and perspective (and those themes being tied into the gameplay)

I did get stuck near the beginning but I saw the comments suggest there was more to the game and after the first 4  images (barring the third), I was able to follow along and intuit what I had to do to proceed without semi-random clicking! If you wanted some unwarranted suggestions as to make those earlier moments more graspable to player, some ideas knocked around in my head.

I drew fanart of one of the slides with the part of the narration that really resonated with me:
Congrats on making your first game! It was fascinating and I'm excited to delve into your other work.

Developer

Holy crap thank you for this! What a cool drawing! I love the lil fella holding the B :) Also thanks for all the kind words, I had a lot of fun with making this, so all the positive feedback is a cherry on top. I'll have to look into Kingdom Ka, it sounds lovely. Thanks for your time and for sticking it out through the unclear images :)

Thank you for the game! Very stylish, very creative, great photos. You made a really interesting interactive experience. I felt a strange sense of nostalgia for places I've never been.

Submitted(+1)

unfortunately i found myself clicking every part of the image in the second picture and still not able to get past it. Its a shame as from comments below the rest of the game sounds quite cool

Developer (1 edit)

Thanks for checking it out! :) If you're wanting to give it another shot, try clicking where the wires intersect the cathedral near the top of the image.  That or peek the full playthrough video I just added to the game's page :)

played again and found it very thought provoking, good job!

AMAZING art! This is an inspiring journy for game makers!

I'm a real sucker for these types of games. It reminded me of The Beginner's Guide somewhat, which is the highest praise I could possibly give. Reusing photos from other projects was a brilliant idea, and by making a game within your skill level you made something totally unique. I have to agree with others that the second photo was particularly hard to get past for some reason, but aside from that my only complaint is I wish it was longer (a very good problem to have, I promise!)

Developer(+1)

Wow - thank you so much!! This is such a thoughtful compliment :) I'm so glad you enjoyed! The second image really is a doozy - I think it really slipped past me since the crossing of the wires is the only reason I made the photo in the first place. haha. So in my mind it feels so obvious. But I suppose that's why playtesting is so crucial. Thank you for your time and kind words!!

Submitted(+1)

This is a really cool interpretation! I love your narration, it's very thought provoking. The images were all really interesting too.

Developer(+1)

Thank you!! I hope other folks agree. I tried to go with an interpretation that felt a little more out of the box. Though it does in a way feel less like a game as a result. But maybe I'm gatekeeping myself with that lol. Thanks for your time :)

Submitted(+1)

That was a profound experience. Thank you!

Submitted(+1)

We have a top contender here, this game is amazing, nothing to add. Thanks for letting me know this existed!

Submitted (1 edit) (+1)

This was really neat. I agree with others here that the first couple images specifically were a bit annoying to get past (an alternate hover cursor would go a long way), but as the game went on it eased up a lot, and I found it to be a very interesting work. The puzzle was a cool way to cap it off. Good work on this!

Developer

Thanks! Yeah I also agree with everyone hahaha. Thanks for playing :)

really cool game & nice narration, i really liked how different this was from most other games on here and really impressive for your first ever game! it felt a bit like reading a poem with an added layer of complexity and meaning, and I really enjoyed that :) keep it up!

Developer(+1)

Thank you! I appreciate everyone's kind words so much. I will def keep it up :)
