Amazing game! Love the style, it has a very consistent aesthetic, nailed the GameBoy feel. Great job!

Developer

It is a gameboy game ;)

Really great game!  The music is awesome and the art is perfect.  Nice job :)

I like the visual style! And welcome to the GB Studio community!

I like the style.

Wow! Nice work! Very cool style!

Really nice game. It is so nice that you made the contrasting game environment with a very minimal color palette and low res pixel art style. Gameplay controls were just as much satisfying as the looks of the game. Good Job!

Amazing pixel art, really! Very unique game, very different from how I expected it! Good job :D

Love that retro vibe!

Some things that could make it even more enjoyable would be some indication that you need to press a button to skip a screen (i kept waiting in anticipation of some small animation or something, but it never came :P).

Also, personally i think it's very annoying that you die when you go out of the top of the screen, but that might just be me.

Overall, really cool game!

Really enjoyed this! Felt very uniqe and the well done 8-bit style make it truly feel like this could be mistaken as an old arcade classic! Well done :D

Submitted

Absolutly love this game! One of my favourites this game jam :D I couldn't get past the first level, because I kept dying, but I had a lot of fun. The artstyle is amazing and I love the black and white visuals.

Interessting concept

Took me a few turn to get the hang of it - aways something different - top of the screen is death - moon is not decoration but death^^

why do people say they can't play it and there is some kind of bug, everything works stably

Fun, quirky take on a shoot-em-up with a beautiful minimalist style. The one-hit defeat is a bit punishing, but understandable with a short level. Definitely a solid core mechanic that's worth fleshing out with some other complimentary ones (maybe a fuel management mechanic w/ fuel pickups... or having to abandon your ship in a space suit if it takes to much damage/need to commandeer another one in a set amount of time before oxygen runs out). Hope you keep fleshing it out! Well done :)

Very interesting take on the role reversed theme! The art is very well done and the gameplay is engaging. Nice!

clean game,

Developer

pardon?

I meant created finished and beautiful

What am I doing wrong?  Cool game but I couldn't reach the boss :(

Developer

Sorry to here that, did you check the description?

Submitted

I tried to stick to the top of the screen but it still looped me back every time.

how close do I have to be to advance to the next level?

Developer (1 edit)

The screen check gives you a bit of leeway so you can get almost a full ship's length off screen before you die so try this: stick to the left-ish hand side of the screen and try to keep your nose poking off the top of the screen broader after the asteroids.

The play button somehow didn't show up for me (looks like an itch.io problem), but the art looks great, I'd love to be able to play it sometime.

Developer

Sorry to hear that, what were you playing it on?

Update: Pressing enter progressed me to the first textbox of the game, but I could not progress past this point.

I had the same issue, playing embedded on both chrome and brave browsers. My laptop is a Windows 10 version. It ended up stuck on the below image. Hope this was helpful!

Pulling from the inspector I had the following settings:

Developer

thanks! We've been hearing about issues for a while now but it seems to be with itch. Have you tried on mobile?

Developer (1 edit)

it should start automatically now, at the "code monkeys" picture hit Z or X to get through the screen. This is a gameboy ROM and the A sbd B buttons are mapped to Z and X

Cool idea!

I think it looks good too, I like this style very much. It took me some time to understand how to start the game (tried different browsers, ended up spamming keys to make it work) but once it ran it was pretty cool. Nice :)

I really liked this game. There is 1 thing I would change, the planets (especially the ones that are cut in half) look like they are part of the background instead of obstacles. And also I realised how to beat the bos beacuse I hit a UFO by mistake, if I didn't I would not have beaten it becase it isn't very clear. Despite this i really liked it.

Developer

thanks for you comment and im glad you enjoyed the game. If you read the text at the begin of the game it tells you how to fight the boss.

The game won't load for me

Developer

I think there's something up wrong the servers, It loads for me but it loads an earlier submission while it loaded the correct version for someone in a different country

Developer

should work no

Works now. Updated my review to reflect this
