I liked the little camera shake, added a lot of impact to submitting my math homework
I see that moving the submit button has a lot of controversy, and I'd say I agree with the masses, especially since the text and submit boxes can overlap and create problems, but I think it wasn't the worst decision since you only made this game in a few hours and wanted it to be extra difficult. It is still holding up to the name of "complicating simple math."
This music is also a little simple, but it is nice to listen to and is very fitting for the game since it is both tense and unobtrusive, meaning that it doesn't interrupt people from thinking about math but still adds to the experience.
(New high score let's goooo)
Ah well, how unexpected game development is. I expected people criticizing the art, the music, or the lack of good menus. But I did not expect too see people hate the difficulty changing in a generic way and I did not expect it to have a bug in it either, but game dev is game dev. Your review is 90% my last review, so thx for that.
Cheers!
I mean, you don't really need a settings menu or any of that stuff. Most of the attention is on the timer (having the timer be a fraction was clever, I liked that), the equation, and the submitting of answers, so it makes sense in a way, especially with a timer on hand.
If I were to critic the art, the background art is nice, the fog effect/ gradient is really nice and soothing to look at, especially with the chosen color palette; and the smooth clouds are a nice change from the typical bubbly ones I see most of the time. For the text, such as the title and equations, it is a little hard to read at first, so it may be a good addition to change the color or have an outline or something behind the text to make it pop out more. The simplest and cheapest way to do that is to just duplicate the text box and move it a few pixels over and change one of the box's text color. (very effective and is something I did in my game for example).
It isn't a terrible thing to have people comment on things you never expected, but more people should complement on your positives instead of repeatedly commenting on the same flaw. And again, for 3-4 hours of work, you did a great job! People still loved playing what you made, and that's always the best possible outcome.
Till next time, cheers!
Don't credit the art much to me tho, I didn't create it and I credited it (the art) in the description.
oh, my bad
Yo, so this was a pretty interesting concept for sure. One thing I didn't like was, as someone else mentioned, was moving around the submit button. "Artificial difficulty" is prob the best way to describe it lmao.
Good job on getting a submission in though!!
Okay, Ig i'm removing since no one likes it..
Interesting idea! I think moving around the submit button is kind of "artificial difficulty" though.
Artificial difficulty? whats that?
It means it gets more difficult for the wrong reasons. Like "cheap" ways of making the game harder. If the focus of the game is solving math with different symbols, then why are you moving the submit button to make it harder?
Fun game, messed with my mind a bit lol
Haha, yeah, I can't do simple math after I played my own game lol.
Very fun and clever game.
thx.
Haha lol.
Thanks :)
I cant believe you made me do math, 0/10.
Lol really though nice job, I saw you mentioned in a few places its below your standards, but honestly it was fine for what it was. Between the music, the timer, and the submission box suddenly moving the presentation kept me engaged way longer than I admittedly thought it would, and it was fun, and thats what matters! My only suggestion would be similar to the others, trying to adjust the time depending on the size of the numbers in the question, and maybe keeping the submission box from completely covering the button and question. Good job though!
Yeah, it kinda is below my standards, especially from my last two games which made noticeably good in their game jams (16th out 72, 9th of 2X), I've made significant improvement in the polishing area and even decently mastering the engine I use, only to make a (too) simple game in arguably the biggest jam in the world. Oc a bit saddening, but If I could make smth with bad polish and gameplay in 5 days, I can now make in a few hours, is at least... promising.
I went for the math, I stayed for the vibe
Thank you for such an amazing compliment.
Nooo don't make me hate maths!!
Relived School Trauma, 10/10
Haha, yeah who doesn't love old-school math.
Not too bad for a game that got made in 3-4 hours. Good job! (And I see that you're also a fellow GDevelop user lol)
Thx, haha.
3-4h :D that is more than impressive.
The game is supprinsingly fun! I enyoed that!
I ran into a bug where the input field was overlaying the submit button :( other than that I could have made it far over my 14 :D.
Nice touch on the global leaderboard too!
Oops, yeah, that was fixable. Sorry!
Thanks for your review
Cool game! The music was really catchy and the visuals were good too, I just think the numbers can be a bit hard to read
It's the font, right?
Haha, thank you.
Cool idea. Impressive that it was created in such a short time. The main thing that could be improved was having to erase your previous answer.
Thx.
Awesome job completing this in only the last few hours! Great work!
thx.
Pretty fun Idea and It is impressive, that you made it in a few hours! Well Done!!
Thank you so much!
Pretty fun idea, and pretty crazy how it was made in only a few hours. One slight thing I'd like to mention is that having to erase your previous answer to write a new one in every question was a bit tiresome, but other than that, pretty cool!
Really nice compliment! Thank you very much :)
Oof 29, great game considering you did it in only a few hours
Thanks :)
really unique concept, i so bad at math haha. Great job!
Glad I could offer :)
Great game! Math Math Math!!!
That's the spirit!
great game! love maths so it was enjoyable , a great addition would be deleting the previous submitted answers when a new problem appears, but great game overall!
thanks a ton.
