How does your game fit the theme?
You are a frog trying to eat a fly, you are a fly trying to eat a frog! Eat those frogs Fly! Objective: Try and get all three frogs into the pans in the center. This game is built in Ickle Engine, a custom engine I've been working on for years. The entire game is modifiable, you can open up the engine on the start page and I'm hoping to improve the ui and make some tutorials on the engine's flow.

I liked the general concept. The camera transition from a frog's view to a fly's view added a nice touch and enhanced the feeling that you were changing characters. The sound effects when explaining what to do after the frog catches the fly were pretty fun. It's a fun game!😁

I find it impressive when developers create their own game engine. It must require a significant amount of effort and careful planning to build a custom engine. Personally, I use the Unity engine, and I have no idea about the complexities of creating a custom engine but I imagine that is hard.

Thanks so much! I've been thinking about the engine for over 7 years at this point. It uses ray casting and signed distance fields instead of Mesh's/Triangles for 3d assets.

Great concept. Loved dragging the frogs around by their tongues. tough to master. I'll have to go back later and see if I can actually beat it.

Really like the art style on this one. Definitely found this difficult to play, not sure exactly how to get the frogs to the middle reliably! It'd be good to have some tips on how to play and I'll give it a go! Great take on the theme!

Thanks for giving it a try! Move like a fly, spin the frog in circles, keep wasd always moving, never go in a straight line and "juggle" the fly. You can reliably get all the frogs into the middle easily once you vibe it out. The chaotic dance between the fly and frog and figuring out how to move is the center point of the game and what I hoped people would find fun in!

This is the kind of game I want to see in game jams!
Love to see custom engines and especially ones that allow the enduser to customize the game.
Getting that lava frog down the hill was quite tricky, to the point where I tried to go into the engine and give the frog or the fly more live. I got a bit lost while trying to figure out how to achieve that and ended up going back to beating the game in its vanilla state, but the look under the hood was still a fun experience.
The idea of playing both frog and fly and the cute worked very well and the graphics were cute. Top marks in all categories =)

This is so sweet! I'm stoked you looked through the engine. The scripting system isn't quite ready yet, it's functional, but not ready for a game yet, so all the logic included the health is compiled in c++. I'm glad you enjoyed looking underneath the hood though! :D. Love your game too!!

Having the fly dragging frogs around by their tongue is a really cute idea which turned out to be a fun and engaging challenge. The storybook style approach to the artwork is handled rather well and is not seen all too often. I'm very impressed by your game engine and was inclined to try and edit the level myself to create a new challenge for myself.

Thanks! If you want to try adding more assets to the level hit "space" it opens up the asset menu. you can even paint your own 3d assets.

by:

1. Press Space to open up assets

2. Create new galaxy ( a brown cube to start)

3.  left click your new galaxy to place it in the scene

4. press tab to open up tools

5. select the paint brush icon on the left.

6. Select your galaxy (3d object)

7. Select you paint brush at the top to start painting

A lot now that I type it out, I'll have to improve the flow, but it's pretty straight forward once you see. I just typed this out in case you our anyone else is curious, I just appreciate you taking a look to begin with :)

It was really fun, the last frog was hard, I used my controller to win this one ahah
Congrats !

Developer(+1)

Oh I forgot to test with a controller, but my engine maps most of the inputs so it should be fine, pleasantly surprised you were able to use one haha. And I'm happy you had a good time!

Very cool and deceptively difficult! Had me trying to master it for a while

Developer

Glad you had a good time!

It's an incredible work ! And you did it in your own engine, good job !

Frog ❤

Developer

Thanks, I like your game as well :)

What a fun idea! Pretty well executed too. Swinging the frogs around is addicting and satisfying. Even more impressed that you made the engine, fantastic job!!

Developer(+1)

I appreciate it! the engine  can be opened by pressing "x" on the title screen, if you then press "space" you'll see assets can can be dropped into the game. Great job or your game as well!!!

Tastes like chicken

a very charming game, dribbling with the frog attached to you might have a potentially very high skill ceiling. i wonder how much can be done with this idea, if it was expanded upon in the future

Developer(+1)

Thanks so much! This is the first game I've made in the game engine I built over the past several years. It means a lot just having someone look at it :)
