The idea has been used many times in this jam but it's still good, the special attacks add some variety wich is always welcomed

Submitted(+1)

Good game, it handles well and the special attacks add flavor to the defense.  I'd love to see another enemy type if you made another version.  Nice job!

Submitted(+1)

It has some solid mechanics, and the controls play pretty well and its pretty satisfying to clear a wave. Some form of progression or enemy variety would really spice it up. The dragon sprite is really adorable and really fits the aesthetic of the game. Nice job!

The combat feels good, the UI is easy to read, and the objective is clear. Good Job!! Also, I love the art and music

Developer

Thanks for playing it! I'll give yours a try now!

I like dragons so I had to play this!

The dragon looks adorable. I especially like the sprite animation when they turn around! looks really flashy and goofy

It would be nice if there was some form of progression in the game - I've already seen upgrades mentioned, but different enemy types over time would be neat too! maybe an archer who shoots arrows which you can also reflect, for example!

Still a really cute game. The dragon didn't deserve to get their gem destroyed, they're too cute for that!

Developer(+1)

Thanks, Im so glad you liked the dragon, it took me awhile to figure that one out haha. If I wasn't quite literally out of time towards the end of the jam, I would have added more enemies, but time just caught up to me. Also I really like your profile pic its rly cute :

The dreaded jam deadline comes for us all!

And why thank you! My icon is of my dragon character themselves! The more dragons the better, I'd say!

Nice!

Thanks for playing it live!

No Problem!

Very nice game! The Dragon loocks cute!

Some kind of progression with the skills (new attack after each wave, biger radius, ...) would make the feeling more fair. :)

Very nice! It’s a bit rough around the edges, but that’s to be expected for a game made in such a short time. The gameplay has a lot of depth for something this simple. Good job!

I’d love to play a version of this game with a progression system, where you’ll occasionally replenish your health, and the challenge instead comes from keeping pace with the growing power of the enemy forces that come to attack your crystal.

Developer

Thanks for the kind words! I totally agree with the changes you brought up, if I had more time I would have tried to add it but unfortunately I couldn't. Ill have to check out your game too!

Fun game and fun concept! I really liked the music and it was fun to have to manage your abilities. I would suggest adding some more powerful enemies with different playstyles, like archers that shoot at the crystal from afar and try to avoid you. Having a vampire survivors like level up and upgrade system could also do a lot to spice up gameplay, as it would allow you to make the game more difficult and make the player more powerful as the game progresses. Great job overall!

Developer

I agree, if I had bit more time I would have added more enemies, but time got to me haha. Thanks for the other feedback too, I feel like that could really help the game overall, thanks for commenting!

I loved the cute dragon and really enjoyed the variety of moves we could use.

Nice concept! I liked the animations and the variety of moves! Very nice entry :)

ohhh the color scheme was soo good and the dragon was adorable . i liked the knights too but since they're not really on my side i'm a bit more hesitant to compliment them haha . overall a super cute and awesome take on the theme !!!! :]

Developer

Ahh thanks for the compliments on art, this is my first time releasing a game with art made by me so Im thrilled that you liked it!

I like the hand drawn art. The strategy of protecting yourself and the gem adds some nice strategy to the game and the abilities are all satisfying and fun to use. Really cool to see another (I think) first time jam submitter as well! I think this is using Godot which is a plus in my book! :P I did notice some smearing when quickly switching left and right on the main character, I think that can be solved by using flip h on the sprite instead of negative scaling it but maybe its an intended effect.

Developer

Thanks for the compliments on the art, I worked really hard to develop it! Also yes this is my first jam and I am a  firm godot dev ;) Also, the smearing was an intentional effect by me, but thanks for the feedback! Really loved your game too!

Interesting idea! The special attacks don't seem powerful enough for their cost, and it's easy to get overwhelmed. Add a little terrain would help too

Music was nice and the melee attack felt good. I felt the other attacks weren't strong enough for the length of their cooldowns and the number of enemies spawning. I lost pretty quickly haha.

Developer

Thanks for the compliments, I liked your game quite a bit too! I agree, if I had a chance to go back, I would rebalance the other attacks :

Very cute artwork and nice music! But it is very easy to start feeling overwhelmed with no time to cool off.

Developer(+1)

Thanks for the compliments! I do see how it could feel overwhelming, but even though that is not what i originally intended, it kind of fits with the whole vibe of being a enemy that is powerless to the heroes, if you see what i mean.

nice work with the music and art style, it's very charming

Submitted(+1)

i like the hopeless, overwhelming feel of this game! and i also really like the art style--gives the game a hand-crafted feeling :) i'll have to come back to this one with an actual mouse--trackpad is not the way to go here, haha. i could see this being fun with a twin-stick kind of control system too, if you keep working on it post jam!

i also would have loved a fullscreen option on this one. i have to f11 my browser to see the full screen, but it's just by a few pixels vertically so nothing *too* bad. i did have an issue my first play where i was trying to attack a knight in the top right part of the screen, but i ended up clicking on the gmtk game jam badge that was overlapping the screen! it was pretty funny, but it did take me out of the page and i had to reload.

Developer(+1)

Thank you so much! I worked hard to give the art that type of style so Im glad that came through. The game is definitely more enjoyable with a mouse rather than a trackpad (I know from experience haha), but I'm glad you still had fun! If I keep working on it post-jam, I could definitely add a fullscreen mode and twin-stick doesn't sound like a bad idea. Thanks again for your input :)

I love the art style here - not gonna lie, I immediately felt the need to stand up for this dragon, it's adorable. Loved the music too, carried the mix of majesty and desperation. Fantastic stuff!

The balancing on the basic melee felt good; short reach, but easy to use and effective - I like that it makes you put yourself close to danger.

I'd like to see the special moves toned up in power, with a longer cooldown to balance it out. Make them satisfying to use! Specifically, the fireball felt like it could be buffed up a fair bit, as it couldn't take out the weakest enemies.

Developer

Thanks for the love of the art, I worked really hard on it! As for the specials, I agree with you, looking back on it. They could definitely use a bit of a buff. I hope you still had a good time with the game though :)

Fun, really liked the music, didn't feel like it got old too quickly. Also appreciated the animation for turning around, felt better than just instantly swapping the model around. The 'try again' button doesn't seem to work though and I think hitboxes needed to be a little bigger (particularly on the spin attack) overall a great first submission though, good job!

Developer (1 edit)

Thanks for the feedback and compliments! Im glad you enjoyed 😊
