I really like the vibe of this, both visually and the vocal performance.  And there were some funny endings.  Reminds me of old (Choose your own) Adventure Games.

Though I don't feel there's much functional difference between playing as the narrator, and just picking what your character does.  I had no idea what the RR concept was before reading the page.

Maybe if you could dictate more than the player's actions I could see it.  Take the "Snack Stealing" ending for example; you could have it so you can decide if the Police Woman arrests you, or asks for a bribe in snacks to look the other way.  You slip her a Snickers Snookers and go on your way.

Thank you!

The concept of the game sounded more mechanically different than the execution of the game but I decided to stick with it rather than think of a new game half way through the jam.

I like that idea, it would give more emphasis on the narration side of it.

Really nice visuals and voice. Interesting concept but mechanically it plays similar to any CYOA game.

Developer

Thanks! Yea the concept sounded more different in my head but since the jam was only 2 days long, I decided to just stick with it.

Fun idea ! I liked your take on this concept ! It was nicely done and looked clean with the post process and the voice acting :D

Thank you!

Nice idea! The quality of the voice acting and the post processing greatly enhance the experience.

Oh heyy same idea same title lol. Love the art, the environment, the composition, the post-processing, everything. Love it. Also you have  a great voice!

Developer

Thank you! I was a bit nervous doing the voice over but it paid off. Funny how we made pretty much identical games haha.

I love the visuals, and I like the game.

Unfortunately my monitor is an ultrawide so I was unable to play.  If you could release a version of this game with a windowed version  (or enable resizeable window in build settings)) in 1080p after the voting period that would be awesome.

Developer(+1)

Yea, I'll release a windowed version after the jam is over.

This game looks fun, but it, unfortunately, wouldn't run for me :(. It just sits on the opening screen with wind sounds. Let me know if there's a way to get past that!

Developer

Like the main menu? You should just be able to press the start button. Is that not there?

Submitted

No, nothing shows up. It's just a CCTV footage of the store facing the door. I do have a widescreen monitor so maybe that is the problem.

Developer

Yea most likely. The UI is set to scale with 1920x1080 as that's what I have so it's been breaking on monitors that aren't that aspect ratio. After the jam's voting period, I'm going to release a windowed version.

Very fun idea, like a choose-your-own-adventure type game, but as a narrator. I really liked the idea that you see everything unfold through cameras in the gas station.

Developer

Thank you! I tried to make the CCTV camera system as close to Silent Hill's camera system.

Nicely Done! Its cool to see such a range of different ideas in this game jam. Im always a sucker for games like this. Love multiple endings and the way you made this in general :)

Developer

The difference in games this jam is incredible.

Submitted

This was really well done! The voice-actor's voice was smooth and easy to listen to, making it an easy choice to get all of the endings. Y'all could very obviously lean even harder in the horror atmosphere here and make a great horror game.

What happened during ending 5/5!? D:

Developer(+1)

Thank you for the compliment on my voice haha. After working on this, I want to dive deeper into more atmospheric/horror games as this was the first game I've worked on in that genre.

I guess we will never know what happened in ending 5...

I had trouble getting it to run until I changed my resolution to 1920x1080, maybe add that as a note to the page (damn you Unity canvas system!)

Interesting premise for a game but as someone below said it doesn't feel too mechanically different. I feel like it might be worth pursuing the concept some more. Good work!

Developer (1 edit) (+1)

I'll add that to the installation settings. I only use a 1080p monitor so didn't have much time to test.

Submitted

All good. The Unity UI can be a pain in the neck, so I think all games should ship with the options menu before the game launches

Submitted

I laughed at every ending. Not sure if this is that mechanically different than playing as the character vs the narrator, but I still had a great time :)

Developer(+1)

Thanks for playing. In most games with narration, you follow the narrator so I flipped that on it's head to make you make the character follow your narration.
