Nice art and play on the theme :D Really lovely game.

Developer

Thanks!

A fun and a clever idea with great art. I'm a sucker for good pixel art if my own game wasn't a dead giveway.

Developer

Thank you!

Such a clever idea, I really liked playing it, very fun to play. Congrats!

Thank you!

This reminds me of the games Guild of Dungeoneering and a little bit of a late game of The Magic Circle

Check them out for some ideas if you are planning to expand the game.

I would really like to see different colors of ghosts and chests so they could be differentiated instantly.

Another thing that really begs to be changed is the start of the game - please start the player only after the first tile is set, the first-time player needs to get familiar with the UI and start at their own pace. I don't think that remembering three tiles is a threat to the game's balance.

Oh, and the camera pan is unpleasant. Please make it auto-snap at the end of the current level

I like that you have a credits screen, this shows that you spent time on polish.

Developer(+1)

1: Those two games are good reference points! I've heard of The Magic Circle, but never played it, so maybe going through those games will give me some ideas.

2: The game being only two colours was so that I can focus less on art and more on programming (which I'm better at). Now that the jam's over, it would be possible for me to overhaul the art to make it more colourful.

3: Regarding the start of the game, waiting until the player places the first tile is a great idea! I wish I thought of that while working on the game.

4: I was originally trying to go for a more conventional RTS camera, but because I couldn't figure it out in time, which led to the camera currently in game. I think having an option for which camera you want (snapping or full movement) is a good idea, and should be fairly simple to implement.

5: I'm glad you actually took the time to read the credits!

Thank you for the criticism, and thanks for playing!

Credits are the first screen I check if I have a chance to. (in indie games that is)

I'm happy that I thought of making a credits screen in my game and knew that from the beginning.

The funny thing is, I couldn't show it in the menu because RPG Maker isn't friendly in tweaking the title menu. I got the end screen credits though))

It fells kinda anoying that the direction for camera movement isn't natural, kind of inverted, but besides that the game is really fun

Developer

Fair enough, I'll switch it a more conventional camera after the jam, thanks for the feedback!

Great game, I love your art style and mechanic. Sometimes I don't have a proper shape tile, so I can't keep the road going. This makes me feel a bit tricky. Probably the reroll can have more strategic elements (such as reroll can roll out different types of props, which will change the direction of the tile and the action of the knight?) Anyway, really good job!

Developer

These are great suggestions, thanks for the feedback!

Nice game! I like the art and sound effects. The game has a clear goal and easy to learn. Though, I wish there was more variation in gameplay. Anyhow, it was quite fun and the idea was well executed. I think it is good that you have to manage both the number of tiles and the amount of frustration. Good job!

Developer(+1)

Adding more variety would probably be beneficial, thanks for the feedback!

Simple, but great

Thank you!

A simple but fun game! Love the visuals to this.

Thank you!

Simple and engaging.  I like this concept of "the player is another player's RNG" as a motif for this year's jam. XD  Ran into a bug where one of the tiles was stuck and could not be selected until I rerolled

Developer (1 edit)

I think that bug is caused if the place where you grab the tiles is on top of the tiles placed. It was a bug I ran later into development, but didn’t have enough time to fix.

Submitted

Very fun, simple game. I like the graphics and animations, the whole thing is very smooth.

Developer

Thank you!

Very cool game! I like the simplistic side of it combined with the very creativ idea. I would only suggest not to give the player tiles which he will die to quickly (or do it maybe so that you have an infinite amount of rerolls, but each one takes a lot of time, so it feels less unfair for the player).
But nevertheless a very solid game!

Developer(+1)

Currently in the game, every time a new tile gets generated, it will always be able to be placed on the previous tile (unless it would be placed directly on another existing tile), however adding  another check to make sure the tile won’t lead into a wall is a good idea. It would probably make the game more fair.

Developer(+1)

It would be relatively simple to implement as well.

Submitted

So cool! I loved the old-school art style, it remembers me of old RPG games. I don't know if it is a problem with my browser, but I was able to place tiles outside the frame of the game window. But since I didn't download it I can't say for sure if it is a bug or not.
We developed a similar game, in which you have to create a road but with a different concept and art style.

Amazin job and good luck with the jam!

Developer(+1)

Hmm, I’ll look into that. Thanks for mentioning it!

Submitted

Very nice!! I can't imagine what it'll be like when the adventurer starts moving extremely fast lol, will probably need to beef up the number of tile choices you have to choose from. The camera controls were difficult to get at first even after reading the tutorials; so failed a couple of times but got the hang of it eventually.

Developer

Yeah, I'm hoping to change it to a more conventional RTS camera after the jam.

Submitted

a lot of fun

Developer

you skipped the tutorial smh, no but seriously thank you for playing!

Submitted

I had the same idea at the beginning of the game jam. Good job for the game!

Developer

Thank you! Your profile picture reminds me of Celeste, idk why.

Submitted

Cute game, congrats! I didn't get how to move the camera though, even with explanation...

Developer

You hold down right click or shift, and then bring your cursor close to the edge of the game window in the direction you want to bring the camera. The camera was changed last minute to the current version, which is why it's quite unintuitive.

Submitted

Some solid gameplay, the camera controls took a minute to get.
(thought it was drag and move at first).

Tutorial was super helpful.

Would've liked to see more types of rooms and abilities.

It would be cool to have seen some character stats as well as the happy meter.

Developer

Having other stats for the character like their armor and attack is a pretty good idea. Thanks for the feedback!

Submitted

Simple idea, but really cool realisation! I really like music, arts and gameplay. Maybe it a bit monotonous, but it still really cool game! Great job, man!

Developer(+1)

Thanks!

I love how unintentionally labyrinthian the maps inevitably get. Well done! The only issue with the game is that the camera controls are a bit weird.

Developer (1 edit)

I'm gonna be honest, the camera was something different before I switched it originally. I couldn't figure out how to make a camera like an RTS game, so I went for the camera that's currently in the game. I probably will try and fix that up after the jam. Thanks for playing!
