What an entry! I will always respect anyone who manages to put an opening cutscene together in time for a gamejam.
The gameplay concept is actually incredibly cool - though me being a chess nerd probably helps! Reframing the objective of chess, and letting you make use of different piece's abilities - you really squeezed everything out of that idea to create a unique game. The presentation was really clean too - not too in your face, but it communicated everything it needed to very clearly, while generally being pleasant to look at. Excellent direction!
Unexpectedly strong vibes on the final level too - a little chess puzzle game shouldn't be able to instill such emotion in me!
I really really like this game! This is such a fresh take on chess, and the puzzles are so much fun! Art and music is also wonderful!
And its so polished... a cutscene... in a chess game... whaaat???
Bravo!
This is genius!
As a former chess-enthusiast, i love the storytelling and the puzzles, and the visuals are super smooth! Having one-time abilities of other pieces works super well (i was wondering if it was only going to be king moves, but this really gives it a lot of depth).
Would love to see a full version of this with more (and more challenging) puzzles, maybe also playing other pieces at some point (you could make a whole story on this theme).
Are you planning on fleshing it out after the jam?
I love the idea! And impressive, how you also managed to come up with a little story in that short amount of time!
Great Concet and Great Game, loved it. Feels like a full game, great Job.
Fantastic game! Reminds me of Shotgun King, but without the shotgun RNG; it's all puzzle.
Took me a second to figure out that enemies would self destruct if they moved into your square--maybe it could do with some more visual feedback?
Loved the theme and opening cinematic.
Well done!
I'll be honest, much better than I was expecting. The puzzle of the movement abilities were well designed, everything felt polished, great job! Could really see you expanding on this post jam.
The game mechanic is quite clever, and fits the theme well! The levels are well designed, making use of the available abilities. I had fun figuring out how to beat them! Well done on a polished and fun game! :D
As a lover of chess, this game was really clever and well-made. Loved the story and the music. Great game!
Amazing game! The puzzles and mechanics are so completed and fun to play. The sound and art presentation also give positive feedback for each selection and movement! This this one of my favourite entries!
Wow, this was very high quality! Congratulations on making this masterpiece in such a short timespan!
It was well thought out as i thought the game would be boring but the movement abilities made it really interesting.
I like it but I have a slight opinion that you should make the game a little more logical. Even though the king was at the finish line, the Bishop still crashed into the head...
This game feels amazing in all ways possible. It's astonishing for 2 people to create this much just in 2 days, my biggest respect. Definitely keep it up!
Fantastic in all ways possible. I love the inclusion of the intro story cards, I need to remember to do those for my next jams, they add so much!
Nice game, both idea and puzzle design are great. I would love to play expanded version of this with more levels
