Wow! This is a very unique concept, and I like you taking the "fogs of war" too literally, and then making it very good, polished, and well-executed!

I played multiple times and basically get addicted to the gameplay! Enjoy the BGM too!

Very good quality game that makes me hard to believe it was made in 48 hours.

What a cool concept for the gamejam theme! Well done!!! :D

Very good idea. Has potential for expanding to bigger game.

Some critique (every other stuff is great, so i dont have to talk about them):

-Smoke autofilling is sometimes annoyingly slow

-The game could have more variety, some interesting enemy setups that require certain stradegy(and more enemy types helps this)(ofc i understand the time limit)

-the long sight enemy should show where he looks next, also maybe all enemies should show that idk

Otherwise rly fun and nice game

The back and forth is very fun, this game is so well-paced, which is rare for a gamejam game. Really good job!

Great game. I enjoyed a lot the art and the music. The gameplay was really funny too, such a cool turn based game. Well done.

This was really cool! I like the concept and the artwork you chose really fits the theme!

I consumed all the cities haha!

Great game!

Developer(+1)

The music does a lot to set the theme, and I tried to make sure all the movement kind of matched.

Glad you enjoyed it!
And congrats on beating them all

Nice game, I espacially like the mood and the soundtrack. Very nice chill game.

I had trouble understanding how to take advantage of the "auto-filling" and how the game worked at first. A small in game tutorial would do wonder.

Wow, that was fun! Thank you for the game. It took some time to realize that I could “eat” the characters moving around the map. The animations and art style are very appealing.

Nice game, but you should definitely make the fog faster

Developer

I'll consider it as an option for future updates. 👍

The current speed was chosen to match the more slow dreadfull mood we wanted to create, but the need for speed also made me add the input queue, so I understand where you're coming from.

In case you didn't find it yourself, you can start all your moves in a turn immediately, either by clicking on all the tiles or simply dragging your mouse across the path

Submitted(+1)

ok i gave it another try, and i understood what you meant by selecting multiple tiles, it is not intuitive at all and i think you should explain it on your game page or in the game.
Also, i did not understand what can i do next in this situation:

Developer(+1)

Yeah that's fair, I like the idea of discovering it yourself, but since you aren't the first to ask about speed it might be a good thing to add.

Unfortunately, that does look like a pure stalemate, and you'll have to reset the level.

An update to this game would for sure need to update the ai to prevent these, or add a pass turn button.

It might help to be a bit more aggressive and go for some soldiers before covering the entire map, but this is for sure a design flaw on my side, thanks for pointing it out 💙 and all the feedback

Incredible game! Really fun to play and I don't know what to make better.Maybe you could make the animations faster..?

Submitted(+1)

really weird that this isn't getting more attention, because it feels like an actual fully developed demo for a commercial puzzle game.

good presentation, very clever spin on the theme and just plain fun to play. so good!!!

and yep i also didn't realize you have to cover enemies until i was almost done painting the entire map on my first round :D

Developer(+1)

Haha thanks, please do help spread the word, its always appreciated.

I do wish I had a bit more time to help onboard players better, with in game help and to tell them what the real objective is.

But super happy you've had fun with it regardless and discovered the win condition yourself =)

Submitted(+1)

oh yeah i don't actually think it's a downside. the controls are super simple, the first "map" is quite short, so even if you don't immediately know what you're supposed to do you spend that time getting used to the game's rules. then you think "what now?" and there's pretty much only one thing left to try. it's a pretty good tutorial as is :)

Submitted(+1)

This is a really nice idea, and having different and unique enemies was a cool additions to force you to change your strategies ! I missed a small feature to make the fog go faster, but it was really fun to play and discover :D

Submitted(+1)

I really love this idea, and there's a good choice of enemies. An interesting way to expand could be to implement types of fog that spread at different rates and different paces. For example, 'Locusts', which gain more moves as they infect food supplies. Really good game

Developer

Oh, that's an interesting take, I have mostly been brainstorming more enemy behaviors and buildings for a post jam followup.

But there is still a lot of potential in different types of fog too

Submitted(+1)

Really cool idea and very fun to play!

Submitted(+1)

It's a very unique idea, could lead to some real cool gameplay given enough time to polish and add more gameplay variety. Even just as a proof of concept, the idea of slowly engulfing the map as time goes on is great. It could just use a bit of a difficulty curve increase as units are taken off the board since as it stands the boards are at their hardest early on.

Very satisfying and super fun

Submitted(+1)

Neat concept, I really like the idea of playing as a "natural" force in a civilization game. I found it a bit too easy to take over once I learned how the enemy search patterns work, but it is still satisfying to take over the map. Enjoyed playing this one overall, nice work.

The fog is coming.

The idea is very smart! I like how you have to plan your moves so that you are out of the field of view of the players. However, it was hard for me to understand both the players and fog logic of movement (sometimes the fog expanded, sometime I had more turns, but I couldn’t understand why). Maybe, since there is no tutorial in game, you can at least add a few lines inside the Itch page description. Overall, solid idea, it has potential even outside the jam!

Submitted(+1)

10/10 Didn't actually realize I was supposed to defeat the enemies until I almost covered the map because I was just having fun taking turns

Developer

Haha, that might be one of the best compliments this game could get

Submitted(+1)

Full marks from me. That was well done all around. It felt like a well polished game. The tall yellow guy in the middle I was unsure about but otherwise it was very cool to expand and gain movement over time. Could see this idea expanding into a full game honestly.
