In my quest to rate bird-themed jam games, I have arrived at this one!
I like the aesthetics of this game, the sprites of the two dungeon-crawling birds are really cute! I also appreciated that you implemented a stamina bar that limits both jumping and attacking, so there's a trade-off between choosing to attack aggressively at the risk of losing jumping ability and vice-versa. The stamina bar also helped incentivize switching between the two characters, since I would often use just one bird to attack until its stamina was spent, then switch to the other bird.
Giving the two birds different attack abilities (one that throws arching knives, and another that shoots magic blasts that travel straight forward) is also interesting, and it would be nice to see that expanded. For example, you could design it so that the attacks from bird 1 are more effective against certain enemies than the attacks of bird 2, just so people have more reasons to actively switch between using the two. (Right now, it looks like the attacks damage enemies equally).
It would be nice if there was more interaction between the two characters to support the joined together theme (i.e., it would be cool if they can do a combo attack or have other special abilities only if they're together).
I also noticed that health bar would be restored to the birds if you waited long enough, which incentivized me to occasionally camp to regen all the health. I'm not sure if this was the intended play-style you were encouraging, but I did like that it was possible to recover health.
Overall, I enjoyed the game, and I think it has potential!
The idea is very interesting, but maybe the execution wasnt the best. The pixel art presentation is great and although i really ejoyed it, the gameplay feels strage, is like having to play the same game 2 times in a row. i would have liked to see the market. Very good game, congratulations!
Update: I forgot to reactivate the main mechanic, so now the game does not fit the theme. The players are supposed to take damage when far from each other. I will fix in next release (not jam submission, as the rules do not allow this)
