I really loved this! It's fun yet challenging, and I really like the inclusion of a platformer aspect with a puzzle/memory game. The controls were fairly intuitive, the gameplay simple, yet detailed. I did have some trouble on first playthrough in that I could not easily see the brown ferret against the brown table in the cauldron room, though once I realized the dimensions, I could see fine. I also like the mechanics of the ferret in the ingredient room, I was able to scurry around like a speedy, bouncing - well, ferret. ;-) The artwork is very well done, it's definitely a pretty game to play, and that adds to the appeal. Overall I was very impressed, especially considering the time constraints. Very well done!
A few things that could make this better is a tutorial, be it a list of things that you can do. i.e. travel to the left to get potion ingredients.
A bug I ran into is that if there are two orders of the same potion that both restrict separate recipes, then it doesn't allow you to brew the potion at all.
Background art looks really nice tho. Props for the art style. Unfortunate that the gameplay to hinders the potential of the nicely decorated stuff.
I really wanted to do a tutorial but unfortunately ran out of time. This is my first game jam and I had to do everything solo, so I tried to prioritize where I could. Unfortunately that meant relegating it to a short description on the page. :( That is an interesting bug that I did not see in my - albeit very brief - playtesting. Will have to look into that! Thank you for taking the time to check it out & leave feedback!
First, the game is not properly packaged. It should be only one button to download. Put it in a ZIP file. Also, the character is so tiny that I couldn’t see him walking and lost like… 1 minute searching and pressing all the keys.
There is no highlight in the book to convey the need to press a key to read it. The plataforming has really bad collision shapes, no animation nor rotation to walk/climb.
I was drawn by the good background art, but the game lacks many essential things.
All very good points. Thank you. :)
